The Orphan Killer (2011)
Almost ready for the mainstream
The Orphan Killer can best be summed up as a mixed bag of a horror film. It has some great makeup effects, but bad camera work. It has some great scenes, but overall isn't all that good. It has an interesting concept for a story, but plot holes and unbelievability derail your immersion while you're trying to enjoy it.
The story is about two orphaned siblings, Audrey and Marcus. Audrey is adopted while Marcus is left at the orphanage. While Audrey grows up and apparently has a normal life, Marcus grows up tormented for most of his life by the nuns that run the orphanage, and is made to wear a mask due to the fact that he is dangerous to the other children, and the staff. He goes insane and wants to kill his sister, as she left him there, and film gives you enough back story to make it clear.
The movie has several flaws that include, but aren't limited to; camera work, acting, sound, too much fake blood (to the point that it's laughable), plot holes that are huge, and no real character development beyond Marcus. There is no doubt that the film is low budget, so a few of these things can be over looked, and there are some really solid moments in TOK which makes you wish that more time could have been taken with the story and some of the camera work.
The scenes between Audrey and Marcus, while they are in the basement, are done quite well in parts. The camera work, while they are on the roof of the building, is pretty well done as well. Unfortunately these moments aren't enough to make you look past the flaws, but it's worth checking out if you're really in the mood for some low budget slashing. If you're prepared to lower your expectations, when it comes to everything needing to make since, and you may just enjoy it.

Aftermath (1994)
What a waste of time
Back in 1994, if you would have watched this movie at a friends house... you probably would have been glued to the screen, trying to figure out if the VHS tape you were seeing was offering up some deranged snuff film. I have no doubt that you also would have bootlegged a copy and showed as many people as you felt comfortable in offending. That was then, this is now, this is the HD age of video. What does this mean? It means that you know right off that this is not real, and if you had any doubts if it was, as soon as you get a good look at the rubber dolls that they are cutting into.. your disbelief becomes overwhelming. So what are we left with here? A half hour of a guy cutting into rubber dolls, humping one, and then going home to his dog. I give this 3 stars just because of the whole VHS thing I thought up, but this is just not any good. It's slow, it's tasteless, it's boring, and you don't care about the rubber corpses on the tables any more than you care about the tables themselves. You want to watch something disturbing? Check out A Serbian Film, or Antibodies instead.
Death Sentence (2007)
Taxi Driver 2007
In the same make of Taxi Driver, this film is violent, brutal and engrossing. In this film you follow an everyman that step by step turns into a hardened vigilante after the death of his son. There are many surprising moments that make you care for the characters and everyone does a very good job with believable emotion and dialogue. As the movie rolls into an explosive ending, you really are rooting for the main character with every bullet fired. This film may not appeal to everyone, as it tries to be a dramatic action film, and will lose those looking only for a shoot 'em up, or a deeply intelligent story, however it does do a fine job of walking the high wire between each category and should be watched by anyone who appreciates a story with their gun play.
The Last Broadcast (1998)
For Those About To Watch...I Pity You
This film is apparently about the Jersey Devil, I say "apparently" because there is NO Jersey Devil in this film. In fact, I'm pretty sure that the Writers had no idea of what it was, they probably just liked the hockey team. Now I'm sure that some of you out there find this to be funny...it'll stop being funny after you sit through this turd. Nothing will be funny for at least two days after the viewing of this movie, you'll be that mad at yourself for watching the whole thing. What's it about? It's a "Blair Witch" type film, with worse acting, no real plot and not much in the money department. The film asks the question..."What happens when a group of indi film makers go into the woods to find a fictional beast?" Well I'll tell you exactly what happens...NOTHING. And not just nothing, 2 plus hours of nothing. Here's the spoiler, at the end of this very long and very boring documentary the film breaks the atmosphere of documentary by having the individual responsible for the deaths of the townsfolk kill the person who's making the documentary. Then it shows him stuffing the body in the trunk of the car and he drives away. They spend all but the last 3 minutes of the film trying so desperately to make you believe that this is a documentary and not just awful camera work and bad acting and then they throw that out the window with the "big twist". If there is a God, and after seeing this movie you'll really question that, he will "strike down with great vengeance and furious anger" those responsible for this turd that is so in need of flushing. Please, please, stay FAR FAR away.
