Found (2023)
Is the Heroine Deluded, Criminally Insane, or Unrealistically Righteous?
We just discovered this series, and I thought it was a pretty average network effort until Gabi went down the basement. That was a shocker at the Shonda Rhimes level, and it upped the tension level and lowered the credulity level considerably. Unless... Gabi is so strident, so sure, so abrasive. Is she mentally vulnerable or just over-wrtten/overacted? Now, I had to start watching Found via On Demand; a couple of episodes were missing, and we haven't caught up yet. So at this point I'm wondering, is Sir really in the basement, or is it a delusion Gabi has created to be able to live her life? Is Sir still out there? If so, this show could be fascinating. If not, subtract a couple stars from this review, and this viewer will probably move on.
Entertaining Christmas (2018)
A Stinker
This is the umpteenth movie remake of Christmas in Connecticut, omitting the acting skills, charisma and charm. Even the original plot was a bit flimsy, and this update quickly wears thin with the constant bombardment of sticky situations that should have been resolved or forestalled long ago. Since a simple admission from an accomplished, intelligent, experienced woman with an advanced degree could eliminate the awkwardness, it's pretty hard to sit through all the contrived scenes without irritation. Skip it.
B Positive (2020)
Life and Death
I enjoyed the show. It may be more appealing to those who have had a medical scare. The characters rang true. The feeling of having only one chance to keep your life is real to me, and it was good to see it portrayed with some humor. The show has potential.
Marry Me at Christmas (2017)
Merry Meh
To be fair, I realized after the movie began that I had read the book it is based on, my first and last by Susan Mallery. It's probably hard to make a decent movie from a so-so genre novel, but they did try in their mediocre Hallmark way. Lots of fans love her series set in the town of Fool's Gold, so if you are a fan, go for it. After reading the book I was not a fan of this bland fare, and the romance-novel clichés clang like a tinny Christmas bell throughout the movie. Can't help but note that this is the same old Christmas cheese in a Hallmark fruitcake tin. Cheesy sets, cheesy Christmas decorations (the trees are always awful, but in this one we see cheesy Christmas wedding decorations too). Worst of all is that cheesy synthesizer music, and we're talking Velveeta here. It reminds me of the organ music they used in 1950s soap operas. This will be my only Hallmark movie this season. Last Christmas season I had time to binge on Hallmark Christmas movies, and it was a mistake. Blaugh! Too much cheese is never a good idea.
