The Bridge of San Luis Rey (2004)
The great mis-cast
This is such a beautiful movie...over the top costumes (like Kathy Bates falling out of her bodices). It was confusing but vastly entertaining. As for the mis-casting I was waiting for Harvey's New Yorkese to come out and DeNiro did not have the elegances of speech that was required for his role. Both are great actors but they were big fishes in a very different pond.
The music had the taste of the time and place.I loved the movie in-spite of the casting. The look of the movie was wonderful. The sets, costumes were outstanding. I am sorry that this movie did not do better. It deserves more attention.
One Last Dance (2003)
It's a pity!
It's a pity!
That this movie has come and gone without any fan fare.
It is a beautiful dance movie with wonderful haunting music and moves.
The acting is sometimes kind of hammy and out of place. You can tell that the leading lady is a very gentle lady and that yelling screaming are not her style. The scenes where she is overly emotional are false.
It is such a treat for the over the hill gang to see the Masters dance with such wild abandon.
Overall, it is a dance movie and it honors the mature dancers.
It is both flawed and wonderful.
I will recommend it to family and friends. Rent it and watch it!
