Death Valley Days: Lady with a Past (1968)

Tiger Lil

I have been looking for the title of this episode of "Death Valley Days" for years. I remember watching it and thinking that Mariette Hartley was the most beautiful woman I had ever seen. I always thought the title was Diamond Lil. Imagine my surprise when I finally found it on IMDb. Now I need to fine out where I can see it. Is there any outlet or store or television/cable channel that carries old episodes of "Death Valley Days"? I would really appreciate it if someone could help me out. I think that this series was probably as close to the real stories of the old west as Hollywood could make it. They always cleaned up the cowboys too much and the women could certainly not have afforded the ball gowns that they wore. Just the same I enjoyed the series very much. Thanks, Karen

I will watch it weekly

I watched the pilot twice to make sure I hadn't missed anything. The characters are exactly that; characters. Each week the actor(s) using the script brings more out in the character making the episode something to look forward to. The science fiction is well written and looks like it can be extended into reality someday. In my opinion that is what makes good sci fi. So much of what was written in the past has come true or is coming true in our lifetime. The special effects are well thought out and presented. The plots combine sci fi with humanity and the continuity from week to week is present but does not make the viewer feel that they are watching a soap opera and have to watch the next episode in order to find out what is going to happen. Still, I look forward to each episode to find out how the over all story is going to evolve. This appears to be a program with staying powers.

Too violent!

I turned this movie off after 15 minutes. I am a Bruce Willis fan, but this is not a movie that I would recommend. The character played by Bruce Willis does show compassion, but this does not make up for the other characters in the movie. The others may represent what we have in our society today, but I do not choose to live this kind of life, involve myself with those who think it is the norm or have it as entertainment. That we have people like this in our society today does not mean that our media has to popularize them. I will not invite this kind of sick violence into my home. Unless you enjoy the sickness that our society is sinking into; I do not think you will enjoy this movie.

After this you will want to read all of the author's books.

When a scientist discovers that the tail of a commercial passenger plane is going to fall off a series of unfortunate and funny things can happen. Put Jimmy Stewart, Marlene Dietrich and Glynis Johns together and you have a love story with a time bomb ticking. Just when you think that everything is going to be all right, the scientist figures how to stop the flight from continuing from Gander to Canada, by retracting the landing gear. This is one of the delightful movies made by Jimmy Stewart and it does a fair job of retelling the original novel. Take time to read the novel and then watch the movie again. You will really understand what the movie didn't have time to tell.
