Very bad adaption. I can't understand the good rating
9 September 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Forget this one, just read the manga please if you want a emotionally heart warming and cool adventurous story. I dunno the perspective of those who doesn't read the manga but for me who not so religiously follow the manga (I take a break at Wan) arc and decided to read later), this is a very bad adaptation even an insult to the original. This series successfully make me write one of the longest IMDB reviews I've ever wrote. Why? Since I have sooooooooo many things to complained about. Okay here we go. I warned you, I spill, critique every single scene, and pointed out what was different from the original manga as far as I could remember (I even reread the original to refresh some scenes). I apologize beforehand for my messed up english, not my first language.

At first I was convinced this will be good after the trailer. My expectation very soon goes downhill through each episode. I watch until episode 5 and give up because it becomes unbearable for me to continue (my husband on the other hand, still trying to finish all the episode remaining). Everything feels so bad, there are only 2 things I thought were great : the setting and the buggy cast. Buggy scene is quite enjoyable to watch and the acting is also not bad. The Buggy scene is great though they altered some of it from manga but that's still okay. However, beside those 2 things, I found everything was so.....disappointing. They altered a lot from the manga especially since the Baratie story (the Usop story is not great either but still bearable eventhough they kill Merry who supposed to be survive in the manga). The characters are very deviate from the original. Garp is supposed to be this chill, cool, funny, wild grandpa but here they made him a very serious angry vice admiral who desperately want to capture luffy to the point calling Mihawk to chase after him (wtf). They get rid off Don Krieg completely from the Baratie arc. Mihawk who, in the middle of eliminating Don Krieg, got a call from Garp to captured Luffy. This is very different from the original. In the original, Mihawk was looking for Don Krieg and it leads him to Baratie, coincidentally meet Luffy who was forced working in the kitchen because the damaged he caused to Baratie. Mihawk doesn't have intention to fight Strawhats, let alone captured him for Garp. This is so weird. Nami is also out of character here. She is supposed to be taking advantage of Sanji when Sanji flirt with her to he give free of charge food. Here, she expressed disgust and awkward attitude towards Sanji when he is flirting with her. Nami is also supposed to be already sneaking out and leaving Baratie by stealing Going Merry from the crew when Don Krieg comes and making a mess at Baratie. Since in this period, Nami is supposed to be still prioritizing her safety and goals above the Strawhats. Here, instead of fleeing she stays with the crew to witness Mihawk defeat Zoro (Don Krieg doesn't appear at all at Baratie because he was defeated by Mihawk. I understand they might cut off Don Krieg fight with Luffy completely because of the difficulty in taking shot or production. Fighting scene above the water, stepping only on floating plank might challenging if not impossible to recreate in Live adaptation). They also reveal Garp is Luffy grandpa this early and give a lot of unnecessary portion of scene to Coby (who, in reality, only appears a very short time in the early time of Luffy adventure. So why they give a lot of scene to this Coby?). They also remove the iconic curly eyebrows of Sanji! They potrayed Sanji as someone who feels stucked in Baratie and how Zeff held back his potential (which is super untrue, we all know Sanji feels debted to Zeff and adamantly choose to stay at Baratie even at the cost of his dream). My conclusion so far up to episode 5, Luffy cast is the worst. Seriously, who cast him. He is not Luffy by all means. Luffy supposed to be this kind, innocent, simpleton guy who wants to be a pirate king. But here, he is super annoying. He smiles too often, his smile is creepy to look at, and he is an idiot beyond saving, far worse than Usop. Luffy is a man with a few words, but his words often can touch deep the hearts of others (he can be silly and idiotic but never feel annoying, just pure straightforward). He is supposed to be a charismatic character. This Luffy in the series failed to potray all that. I was really disgusted at Luffy, especially when Luffy got angry at Zeff and saying he is holding back Sanji (dude, this is very different from manga. Zeff is a fatherly figure for Sanji. Someone Sanji very admired and feel grateful for. Zeff knows Sanji dream and potential, he tried to make Sanji leave for his sake and Luffy NEVER GOT ANGRY AT ZEFF. In this series, I was so embarrassed an frustated when I see Luffy lashed out at Zeff saying he waste Sanji potential and its better for Sanji to come with him. In the manga, the reason Luffy want Sanji is because Luffy was looking for a cook and he likes Sanji personality and skill but Luffy never lashed out at Zeff or even blaming him for holding back Sanji. This is supposed to be one of heartwarming arc but instead of feeling emotionally moved, I feel enraged by how the series ruined the original characters. Luffy supposed to be the pivotal character, the anchor of all the crews but here... The cast for Luffy is so wrong. He speaks too much, his action and fighting scene is too simple and not cool (I know it might be too hard to exaclty replicate his fighting style but still..they make him TALKS TOO MUCH. IT IS NOT LUFFY AT ALL.) I understand if they try to cut some scenes or characters because the manga is a very long story with a lot of characters, but they take the wrong turns. They cut important scenes and adding not important scene like when Zeff do emergency surgery with Sanji help to stitch Zoro wound and patching him up with dead fishes (seriously, this is not in the manga and I dont understand why they add this unnecessary scene). There also no fishmen as Baratie staff in the manga. They mixed Baratie story with Arlong story. Arlong suddenly appear at Baratie (WTH. The Strawhats supposed to be go to Nami hometown, Cocoyashi Village, to chase after her and taking back going merry she stole from them. There they will learn Nami's background story and save her from Arlong clutched). So many things deviated from the original and in a bad way, they really change the story (and completely, some scenes) from episode 5 onward. I am speechless. What a let down and waste of the potential. They should just stick to the original story (cutting some impossible fighting scene that really hard to reproduce in the live action is still understandable) and doesn't need to rush out to introducing some characters too early if it means ruining their characters or story. Can't help feeling upset after watching this series.

Looking for a good Christmas Movie in 2021 but...
24 December 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Maybe it is better for me to stick to the classic Christmas movie like Home Alone or Nightmare Before Christmas. This movie is a big disappointment! The acting is lame, no chemistry between the character. Everyone just said the lines with flat tones and expression. It was like they read the script without single emotion. This movie has no clear target audience, because for me the movie story is too silly for adults but too gory and dark for kids.

I only watch half of the movie and dropped it because it became unbearable to watch. For those who still curious about this movie, let me give you the summary to save your time:

The story starts when the king of the country announce enormous reward for those who can find an object that'll bring hope to the kingdom. Klaus's father and companion leaving Klaus to a dangerous journey to find legendary place called Elfheim to get the king reward. Along with his pet mouse, Klaus who was left at home with his abusive aunt, decided to chase his father after he found out that his hat (made by his deceased mother) contains a secret map to find Elfheim. He reaches the end of the map without any significant trouble (the camera often shows the boys and his companion walking through snow mountain). Collapse from exhaustion and surrounded by hopelessness, Klaus accidentally meet an elf girl with her grandpa. They brought him to Elfheim, turned out the place was not like his imagination. It was gloomy, full of serious looking elf without any hint of happiness.

That's all the summary of A boy Callled Cgristmas that I watched before I finally dropped it for good.

It is up to you if you still want to watched it but beware, you are already warned. Watch at your own risk.

Avoid it at all cost
20 November 2021
This is super ridiculous story about Christmas. Maybe this movie is intended for a little kid (I bet even teenager will find this movie horrible). Definitely not for an adult (i'm 28 yo fyi).

The story is about a knight from 14th century magically transported to 2019 without reason. No real plot here. The knight acts dumb, I barely watch him, an Vanessa.. I love her really, but even her can't save this damn movie. She acts so innocently (or dumb.. I would say no normal person will do what she do: she brings totally completely strangers who seems insane to her house not to mention she lends her car to him when he asks for it. Obviously he doesn't have car license and treats the car like a horse. No sane real person will do what Vanessa do). Another thing that is horrible, is the one responsible for the actor/actress costume! For ex. The last part when Vanessa celebrates Christmas she literally wear red cheongsam... It's Christmas not a Chinese new year.

There's nothing logical in this movie (I know it's Christmas, full of magic, but come on! At least make some of it believable). The acting in this movie is also horrible.

I watch until ending just bcs my friends want to hang out and watch something with Christmas vibe on Netflix together.

Waste of your time
10 November 2021
I love Ryan Reynold and Joe Keery but...this movie is just horrible. The jokes is not funny, the story is so shallow up to ridiculous so it feels like there's no real plot here, no character development, and bad acting (everyone in it).

I love Joe in Stranger things or Ryan in Deadpool, but seriously, in this movie they look so stiff, emotionless. Even the romance feels like straight out from the script. I'm not sure who is the target of audience in this movie, maybe for teenager? Because for me this kinds of movie is boring (fyi, I am 27yo)

A big no to this movie. If you want to watch movie with game theme, just go watch Ready Player One (or Truman Show. I read that a lot of people saying this movie similar concept with Truman Show).

Eternals (2021)
2/10
Not a fan. My least favourite Marvel movie
10 November 2021
Warning: Spoilers
I gave 2 stars because of Makkari and Druig. I like them, they bring light joke into the story and Makkari fighting scene is so satisfying (yeah, I love her last fight that turns Ikaris into a punching bag. That scumbag deserves it)

At first, the premise is interesting but along the way it gets worse. The plot is all over the place. Let me explain, I will try to be as short as possible.

First, Sersi. I am confused with her power (fyi, I don't read the comic book) because of the scene when she turned the deviant into tree (other eternals also confused of how she did it since she never did it before. This part is never explained until the end). She killed the Celestials by turning them into a white stone with her touch.

Second, Sprite. I think her love triangle story with Ikaris and Sersi is unnecessary. It feels forced, lack of foundation. Throughout the movie, never hinted her love for Ikaris..and then BAM! Near the end, she just switched sides to Ikaris because Kingon said she loves Ikaris.

Ikaris, a traitor who kills Ajak because Ajak want to stop the birth of Celestials. In the end, he just stood by doing nothing to stop Sersi since he couldn't bring himself to kill her (or even attempt to hurt her)

The deviant. They feel like a filler that only purposes is to served as a background story for Celestials. The problem is, this is dragged too long up until the final fight when the fight split between thena vs the deviant and ikaris vs sersi, phastos, druig, makkari.

Ajak, nothing much about her. She only shows in some scenes. In the beginning she is the leader of eternal and then Ikaris kill her.

Thena, a hero with handicap unable to fight bcs of her insanity. Sometimes she goes crazy and tries to kill everyone in sight. Her real fight only start in the final fight when she fight the deviant to avenge the death of Gilgamesh.

Gilgamesh, a great cook with incredible strength. He cares a lot about Thena. He dies protecting Thena, when deviant attack.

Kingo, he doesn't participate in last fight bcs he doesn't want to fight Ikaris. He (and Karun) is like a clown in the party, brings jokes into the scene.

Phatos & Makkari, they appear only in the beginning and near the end of the movie.

Druig, a mind controller who built cult-like village in a jungle. In the last fight, he is brutally thrown from the air and shot with laser by Ikaris but miraculously survive.

To sum it up, this movie feels like they try tp cramp up a lot of ideas and forced a plot twist but fail to do so since it is lack of emotion, actions made by the characters doesn't make sense, easy to predict, plot holes here and there, the length of the movie is too long, etc.

If you are a fan of Marvel and curious for Marvel new movie, then go on try to watch it for your own satisfactory but don't expect too much. If you are looking for a good movie with solid story, I suggest you just skip this one. Note: As usual, they have mid and post-credit scene.

Trash. Just skip it. Bad story. I save your time
30 October 2021
Warning: Spoilers
At first I think the documentary style they use for shooting the scene is kinda unique but it becomes annoying. The cameramens literally do nothing, useless till the end. It doesn't make sense and feels so fake when they did nothing to help, no reaction (especially the scene where her aunty tried to break the seal and let mink out), and only react in the end to run from zombie like people who chase and bite them (yeah a lot of ppl turned into zombie-like state and you can see cannibalism). No clear plot, trash characters, nothing at all. A totally completely waste of time. Instewd of scared, i felt disgust.

Funny movies with solid action
24 September 2021
I have low expectation for this one but this movie proved I am wrong. This movie exceed my expectations in all aspect. They got great heart-touching story, funny moments (a lot of funny scene. I can hear people laugh here and there. I love how Awkwafina can be both funny and beautiful at the same time, I became her fans in this movie), great costumes, moral of the story, etc.

This is only my personal opinion but I think the MC is kinda flat in personality. I can't really sympathy with him. The sidekicks in this story have more interesting background or personality (for ex. Katy, the little sister/xiangling, the father) than the MC.

The only downside that really disappointing is the final battle because they overuse CGI and the CGI looks like a cheap budget movie. The best fighting scene they have is the fight in the bus.

Good plot (at first) but end up to be garbage with the ending
13 January 2021
Warning: Spoilers
The ending is a total disappointment. I can't believe the FL is so stupid and choose NDS in the end! NDS sure lack the quality of being ML and the relation between them feel forced. JP deserves a better ending. The premise and the idea of building startup is also interesting but they lack character development.

TRASH. This is my point of view from the movie since I don't read the book
28 October 2020
Warning: Spoilers
Not worth of your time. The first 20 min of the movie, I lost interest to continue it but my boyfriend wants to watch till the end so I grit my teeth and tag along. He continues because he hopes this will get better, but believe me, it didn't get any better! He ends up agree with me haha. I'm frustrated and wondering why this movie can even get rating above 6!

The MC is pretty much annoying and not loveable, the acts were stiff and not convincing, and the people in the movie were always doing plausible act of foolishness.

This movie is all about survival and follow the classic route in which the MC and the group of survivors were trying to survive but all of them end up dying because of impostor, except the MC of course. Unlike any other survival and apocalypse movies, this movie shows almost none of their day to day life to survive, no intense internal conflict. Also, there's no character development! You won't know the back story of each characters so don't hope for one. I don't even remember the names of the survivors because well....they don't leave impression at all so it's hard to even symphatize with them. You won't care even if one of them die.

From the beginning to the end, they won't reveal the creature (only looks like a gust of wind). Not even a hint of why all of this happen in the first place. Everyone who goes outside without covering their eyes will suddenly have the urge to suicide (but not all of them. Some of the people became the infected and display 'insanity' in which they were trying to kill others/the uninfected.)The ending is they ended up in a school for blind people. That's all.

To sum it up, this movie is similar to Quiet Place (but Quiet Place is much more better), no explanation about a lot of stuff: too many plot holes and flaws you can't ignore, lack of originality, so many illogical stuffs in it so if you are a very logical person you better skip it before this movie tortures your brain.

Interesting ideas, but fail to be great. It's just average
13 September 2020
Warning: Spoilers
The Autopsy of Jane Doe has interesting ideas and the potential to be a great horror movie but ends up as a disappointment. There are 2 main things I find really disappoints me and the cause of 5 stars rating I gave: The development of Jane Doe's character and the story of the father and son involved in it.

First, about the development of Jane Doe's character. Her identity was quickly revealed, they provided many hints so it was easy to guess that Jane Doe was a witch. It was predictable but for me it's fine. What didn't fit quite right for me was they didn't try to expand the background story of Jane Doe. Until the end, we didn't really learn anything about Jane Doe except that she was a witch and probably became one because of the inhumane torture she experienced in the past. Why did I say probably? Because it was all an assumption made by the father (Tommy Tilden), but no flashback/proved evidence to support his statement.

Second, about the development bond between the father and son. I think it's a good idea but cut short or the way they presented it isn't impressive enough. There were times it can be elaborated (the trapped in elevator scene) but it still feels lack in emotion. Obviously, not able to make me sympathize with the character, let alone cry over it.

What's negative (besides the two main issues I already mentioned above):
  • The zombie stuff (walking dead people there) feels unnecessary and forced
  • The visual effect near the ending appears like the one you will find in a cheap budget movie (smokey, colorful flashlights)

What's positive:
  • They picked the right song "Open up your heart (and let the sunshine in)", it is really creepy esp. the scene before the ending
  • Great makeup for the Jane Doe

Overall, the first part of the movie was interesting and intense but drops up quickly and will make you want to end the movie before it actually really ends. That's all my opinion. If you are really curious about the movie, you can still give it a shot but beware, you have been warned.

Mulan (2020)
8/10
It's not that bad!
13 September 2020
Warning: Spoilers
I think the movie is quite good. Aside from any political controversy this movie had, this version brings a different portrayal of Mulan. In this story, Mulan portrayed as a ready-made superhuman warrior with Chi. This is the opposite of the classic Mulan where the character even though got talent and potential, still, needs hard work to gain the achievement.

The story itself focused on the fourth virtues: Courage, true to yourself, loyal, and devotion to the family. I understand why fans enrage and unsatisfied by this movie because I admit they make huge changes from the classic one. These changes include:

a. They substitute Mushu with not-so-useful Phoenix (who, literally do nothing in the movie and just occasionally appear) b. Add new characters like The Witch. I think Disney added this character to emphasize the message "true to yourself" but fail to impress the audience. I kind of like this character, but her development throughout the movie feels forced and half-baked which make people think her appearance in the movie is unnecessary. Also, how she ends up, really really predictable. c. LESS ROMANCE, as a big fan of romance, quite disappoints me. They change Shang with Honghui, there are scenes indicating romance but not much, and the story never focuses on it

Last but not least, the thing that bothers me maybe the fighting scenes. Illogical and forced. I will give you two examples of this. a. When Mulan and some troops chased Bori Khan troops, all the Mulan's troops got shot by an arrow and fall from the horse (the remaining two just run). Only Mulan able to dodge the arrows (how silly because even though they want to highlight Mulan's skill, they make Mulan's troops look really lame compared to Bori Khan troops where some of them had the ability to dodge arrows) b. Mulan appears unrealistically beautiful and clean even in the midst of war (She didn't cut her hair like in the classic, not even tie it). She also seemed not bothered by her long hair which several times cover her eyes. How the hell someone like that even survive and able to fight in a war.

Overall, this movie is still entertaining in its own way as long as you can ignore the differences from the classic one.

SIDE NOTES: I still prefer Donnie Yen and Jet Li play for action/kung fu movies. I feel so strange saw Jet Li act as an emperor, somehow warrior or Kung Fu master suits him better (in my eyes). The same feeling for Donnie Yen, he felt so rigid in the movie. I think this movie kinds of wasted two great martial artists.

Somewhat Disappointing
6 September 2020
Warning: Spoilers
I fall for the trailer because it looks interesting enough to watch, but here I was after those 2 hours of torture. This movie had a promising premise but fail to meet the expectations. Too many plot holes, unnecessary scenes, and characters! (for example the doctor vet). The main lead actor (and others) act are crap, very rigid, with monotone voice like they only read the script without any soul in it (the only one I think to pass with the decent act is Jason Issacs as Volmer). The ML also often do stupid things to do and doesn't feel hero material at all.

Last but not least, so many scenes didn't make sense! For example, how the hell Lockhart able to escape from the dentist torture (when he both his arms and legs tied strongly on a chair, with no weapon at all, and surrounded by 2-3 people), appear suddenly on the next scene without any significant damage, back to the sanatorium in one piece, everybody else just decided to forget what happened and still let him free, wandering in the Sanatorium.

This movie feels like they want to put a lot of stuff and ideas, but end up poorly presented by those so many half-baked ideas. I am very much disappointed by this movie since I expect a lot from the trailer. Why I still give 4 stars for this one? It's because the cinematography was beautifully captured (even though near the end of this movie, the scene where the ML sat down on a bench with the main girl, you can see that scene had a sky that looks so fake)

Overall, this movie is not worth of the time

It's a hidden gem!
26 April 2020
This one definitely got underrated. Don't hear all the bad review or rating about this movie just give it a try! It is obvious that Red Shoes and the Seven Dwards deserved higher rating. I admit, the music was not really catchy but the animation was superb (even the credits insert some funny after story so make sure to watch till the end of the credits). The story is not bad either, it is simple and funny enough to enjoy for all age.

The message conveyed in this move is about no matter what your appearances look like, what's the most important part is the inside :) This movie is not about body shaming at all! (I can't understand the people who watched this got offended and feel that way, because this movie is all about positive message such as inner beauty. You see, it doesn't end like Shrek did but still plausible in its own way and clear with the positive message).

This is crap, totally a junk
24 April 2020
Warning: Spoilers
I can't understand why this movie got even 7 as the rating, this deserved 1 star at best if zero is not possible. This movie is horrible, full of plot-holes, characters and stories both didn't get proper development, illogical story line. Let's see what's we have here:

1. Incomprehensible acts doing by the main character (and everybody else in this movie, but MC was the most annoying here) for ex. there are so many chances for her to have evidences needed to uncover and revealed the truth but she always did the opposite and made the story more...complicated (or let's say, stupid)

2. There's no background story of MC and Adrian to convince us about their problematic relationship and how things ended up like it did. Why Adrian was so obsessed with her?never explained.

3. Every element such as characters or stories told by the MC herself narratively. I think there should be a better way to unfold the plot, yet they choose the most boring one : let the MC describes about the whole plot

4. Near the end of the movie, there was a scene revealed the villain killed and Adrian locked in the room to show that he was innocent from the beginning. I didn't buy it, nobody impressed by it. After that, the rest of the story was pretty much predictable.

Dropped. Can't watch it until the end
23 April 2020
Warning: Spoilers
I hate to say this because I have positive expectation towards this movie since several of my friends recommended it and told me this was good. Yet, here I am writing a bad review about this. One of the reason why I want to drop this without even finishing it, is because there are so many inconsistencies throughout the movie not to mention all the characters in it did unbelievable, unrealistic stupid act during what we called as emergency situations in which your very own life is on the line. Ex. of this stupidity:

1. The first infected person who was sneaking into the train still got consciousness and only turn into zombie after some time but this rule doesn't apply to the rest of the movie because immediately after that the infection spread at amazing speed. It only needs seconds fort the bitten to turn into zombie. Then right before the end of the movie (I read all the bad review before hand and decided to jump several times to see whether it is worth it or not to spend my 2 hrs for this movie), the infected person once again slowly turn into zombie (esp.when the main character involved, suddenly the infected person still had a little of consciousness for a while until completely turn into the mindless one) 2. Way of fighting. I already watched several types of zombie movies (Dawn of the dead, World War Z, Warm Bodies, Zombieland,28 Days Later, RE, I am Legend > which is my favourite so far)and the way MC fight back (or the rest of the victim ways of responding the outbreak) kinds of silly, lame, uncool, and can't bring the tension.

Without regret, I dropped this one. Not even "the supposed to be heart warming scene" where the little girl had to depart from the MC can change my mind to continue it. FYI, I'm a big fans of Korean Drama, Korean movies, and actually watch Gong Yoo drama series, but his act in this movie just so-so especially in the last scene of him (I cringe a lot, C'mon! There are so many better ways to fight the last zombie villain yet you choose to do something that will obviously be your death flag. Seriously. The story writer got mess up in the head and didn't working on the story properly), and I can't bear to watch this anymore.

Save yourself by skipping this one. Feel free to try if you are rather a curious mind like I did (I give it a shot despite many bad review since I believe sometimes review can be pretty much subjective) but beware you have been warned.

You gotta watch it
12 December 2019
I like this movie. Cinematic wise, it was awesome. Beautifully captured. Story wise, this was one hidden-gem just like The Parasite Movie (another must-watch Korean Movie).

I think the story depicted on how 'woman' perceived in the Korean society/ Asian culture. It highlights several social issues for woman (career, dream, self-dependent, social/peer pressure, social expectation of 'what a good wife/good woman should be/act) by presenting us the life of Kim Ji-Young, young wife lived with her little daughter and husband.

Throughout the story, the characters in it overcame the issues in quite realistic way that maybe some of us can relate to our actual life. After watching it, I feel empowered and satisfied.

Frozen II (2019)
6/10
Incredible animation. Story wise, had potential if only they had more focus so it was jumbled, doesn't make sense, not so good
9 December 2019
I will start from four things I love about Frozen II : Beautiful animation (what else do you expect from Disney? Of course, the animation is top-notch quality, no doubt about it), Elsa becomes much more cool than before (give a lot of appreciation for the costume designer, I love when they give pants for Elsa and Anna), the growth of Anna's character (In Frozen I, I found Anna was so annoying and not so bright for the brain but here she grows into somewhat stronger and smarter in Frozen II), and Olaf becomes less annoying than before (and more gloomy?haha).

For the things I don't like : THE STORY (sorry pal, it was rushed & jumbled all over the places. I was so confused and unimpressed on how the plot brought up. It's hard for me to feel sympathy to the characters or moved by it. I don't even feel sad for the sad part let alone cry. It kinds of regrettable because the story might had some potential in it if only you put more focus on several parts of the story and cut unnecessary stuffs. Not tried to put and pack everything in 1 movie. So many plot holes, unexplained scenes, some might find it hard to follow up the story), Kristoff becomes a drama-boy who seemed only concern about his love life and put other matters aside, and last but not least THE MUSIC. Nothing really good or memorable, even for the lyrics. It is just so ordinary and forgettable.

Overall, if you a Disney (or animation movies) fans you might want to watch the sequel yet I warn you not to have high expectation for the story.

A quite realistic, heart-warming Christmas Movie

This movie is awesome! First of all, they were beautifully animated. I love the tones, the concept, the story, the way they presented us 'the idea of Christmas' and the way they brought it alive. It was simply beautiful with good messages in which we can find it both enjoyable for adults and kids. For us adults, it might makes us reflect about several things. It is because, as an animated Christmas movie, I thought this one depicted story about Christmas quite realistic. It was not all about magic and miracle. It presented real ideas of human nature and real problem we might encounter in real life. There were several ideas I learned from watching this movie:

1. Can human be nice and kind towards others out of goodwill? Or is human only acts according to the benefit of what they can get?

2. War seems always born out of misunderstanding, the unwillingness to cooperate and tolerate differences, and sometimes out of the importance of several parties

3. Love and forgiveness maybe is all we need to achieve peace

4. One good act always incites another. It might moves or changes the heart of people. Sometimes, if there is no one, you can always be the first to try to do good deed.

5. We can always learn and repent from our mistakes

That's all! Hope all of you, love this Christmas movie as much as I do. Happy early-Christmas :)

Suprisingly, funnier than the first (imho)
9 December 2019
To be honest, I don't have high expectation for the sequel but turns out it is exceeded all of my expectations.

Jumanji: The Next Level added new character, skills, and jokes for all of us. I could hear the audiences in the cinema laugh on the jokes and enjoy it as much as my boyfriend and I enjoyed it. Yeah, I have to admit there were some repeated patterns from the first one but along the way they also added several stuffs which brought fresh air to the whole movie.

Also, I think the sequel conveyed deeper messages than the first one, potrayed by the characters problem in it, in which we can related to our real life. Lesson I got from this sequel: Sometimes you will hit the end but it doesn't mean it is over. It means, all you have to do is living the present and look it with different perspectives.

From the plot of the story, it kinds of light and predictable, but hey, it is a decent sequel you can enjoy with your family. Side notes: They had after credits scene, it might hints about the potential third movie of Jumanji.

Midsommar (2019)
1/10
Don't watch it. Cinematic speaking it is great, but the story is unbearable
1 October 2019
I watched Midsommar with a lot of expectations in which I wish it would be a different type of horror movie. Turns out, it brings a disappointment at least for me. I have to admit the cinematic is cool, unique, and details to the core. For example, You will encounter variety of murals (gruesome scene but painted aesthetically) with a lot of myth and cultural references, some may give hints about what will happen to the characters in it. Yet, this movie failed to keep my attention and interest. There's no character improvement, over extended scene (maybe to emphasize the moment but failed to do so). Overall,I didn't watch it until the end because the story is unbearable. Gruesome and feels totally wrong.

It is horrific in its own way.

The Umbrella Academy (2019–2024)
9/10
I don't like Luther. At all.
13 March 2019
Warning: Spoilers
I love this story of Umbrella Academy. It is magical, dark, full of conflict, and make you wondering what will you see on the next screen. My favourite characters here are five Vanya (Alisson too in the later part), and Hazel. I have mix feelings about Klaus haha he is weird but I don't dislike him nor like him, he is just unique and entertaining in his own way (deep inside I know he has a soft heart and kind)

The characters I hate the most are the Harold Jenkins of course, but not as much as I hate Luther. Seriously, he got some serious self problem in himself. He screwed so many things on later scene and he didn't try to help Vanya at all. He was so obsessed for being the number one, the saviour of the world, and instead of trying to help her sister to cope up with her problem, he shut her down. Cage her even trying to kill her without trying to listen her first. You see, Vanya, discovering her life is nothing but all lies and finding out that she is actually special, has so many things to overcome. She is lonely, we know, mistreated by his father, treated like an outsider without any value. Don't u think her life is already miserable and she is strong enough to face it all being a fine grown up adult she is, still caring about her family. She only wants to be loved, accepted, cared for. The moment she musters her courage to lean on the only things she trusted in her life, her family, she betrayed (by LUTHER).

I am so agitate of every stupid mistakes he made. Instead of being the hero, I can only see him as a judgemental superhero wanna-be. He only makes things worse than ever. I like Alisson more because at the end of the episode, she realizes her mistake to Vanya and trying to fix her, understand her suffering and loneliness (it was all go in vain of course because of Luther's action).

I hate Cha cha and glad she died (finally) because of she is being persistent to make Hazel suffer (glad he finds the love of his life and the meaning of his life, more than being an assassin) even though Hazel spared her life at first. Her action is so terrible and disgusting, can't accept the happiness of the others and move on with her new life, bound to the past which not all glory and shinny, refuse what different future might offers, she deserves to die.

And five! He is so adorable, that handsome looks and dimples! The acting, the ability, the brain, I love all about five.

Suicide Squad (2016)
5/10
Don't watch it
21 December 2018
Warning: Spoilers
Hmm...where do I start? So many complaint I want to write down about SS.

First of all, many of my friends already warned me how horrible Suicide Squad was. Despite all the warning I still give it a try and watch it on Netflix, wondering why so many people criticize it. After all it is interesting to see a bunch of villain trying to save the world. It can't be that bad right? but I was wrong. It is that BAD. Now I know why. I wonder why this movie even able to get 6 score, I believe it is supposed to be lower than 6. I will try to write it brief, here we go.

The only thing I like from this crap is Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn and Will Smith as Deadshot. The rest can go down to the trash bin for all I care.

What's so bad about this movie? 1.) I tell you, there's no plot. The only looks like plot here was Amanda Waller and the team trying to defeat the witch to save the world (which, the main problem itself caused by Amanda Waller. It was her idea in the first place trying to control a bunch of villains and take advantage of them. She literally threatened them and so the witch tried to free herself from her)

2.) Amanda Waller. I really hate her throughout the movie and really happy when the villain got her. She deserved it. She was cold hearted, cruel (masking it with twisted sense of justice), and her mouth was nasty. She even killed her own subordinates and in the late movies, only care about her safety. C'mon guys, She was really awful. I really hate every scenes when she was in.

3.) Jared Leto as Joker. To be honest, one of my main reason to see SS was because I saw Joker in the trailer. YET, I am so disappointed. He really didn't have any importance in this movie only served as Harley past. He only appeared randomly several times. Really, cut all of his scene and it won't really matter for the rest of the story. He was weird, not convincing enough, and totally failed to play Joker, a supposed to be insane, genius, twisted criminal. Totally the opposite of Heath Ledger (he was brilliant!)

4.) Trying to be like Avengers or Guardian of the Galaxy and failed to be both. To many characters in this movie and they did weak story telling about each character or on how they were connected. So, you will find yourself hard to sympathize or connected with any of them. The character's development was poor so you can't really like them.

5.) Didn't make sense. Amanda got the heart of the witch to threaten her, in order to freely control her. IT WAS SUPPOSED TO BE HER WEAKNESS because she will die if something happen to her heart. The witch then, trying to go against Amanda so Amanda stab her heart so MANY TIMES to get rid of her. YET, the witch survived. It looks like what Amanda did, didn't affect the witch so much. So stupid. If it doesn't matter at all, why the hell the witch was so afraid about Amanda taking her heart in the first place. She didn't die after those multiple stab on her heart. Stupid. Really.

If you want to watch some anti-hero, just go watch Deadpool. It is a good one.

Love the Kurt Russell as Santa! Can't understand why some people don't like this one
20 December 2018
Warning: Spoilers
PRO: 1.) Kurt as the Santa Claus really brings fresh perspective, being the modern Santa he was! Also, I love the design of his clothes, still looks like Santa but in a more modern and fashionable way. He loves cookies and milk but might be not the old Santa we know: fat, always says Ho ho ho. He shows human characteristic but with a magic touch here and there. In short, he is still a magical creature but feels closer to us, an average human being. Last but not least, I love the way he was constantly trying to prove himself to the adults that he is the real Santa Claus :) esp. the police scene

2.) Nice music. A bunch of classic ones with different arrangement.

3.) Nice CGI and effect. Nice design for elves and those elf languages. Haha.

4.) Movie with light story so don't expect it to be something deep. Please do bear in mind, this is supposed to be a magical story so don't try to put everything in box you called logic

5.) The ending! I have to admit I am satisfied with the ending. So after save the Christmas, Kate & Teddy get back to their home. Teddy wrote letter to Santa about his wish to meet his father again. In the end, Santa can't bring the dead back alive (thanks, God. I don't need an overdone magic story. It is a very realistic ending yet still feels the magic of Christmas, it is all I need). Santa ended up give Teddy an old Christmas ball decoration. Teddy then, saw the refection of his dad in the ball and in himself. I think it kinds of sweet, it is like reminding us the loved ones might be dead already but never really leave us.

CONS: 1.) The plot is pretty much predictable. At first I wish for something more for the plot because they end up give us the modern Santa played by Kurt yet the whole story is the classic old one when the main characters try to save Christmas. Let's just be honest. How many Christmas movies out there retold the same stories about Santa trying to save the Christmas by sending the present before the time is up :( so many, lost counts, and I don't really interest with that kinds of main story

2.) The chainsaw scene! I think this movie was intended both for adult and kids so I can understand if there's any pop culture reference or adult like joke but the chainsaw scene, even for me is too much. I was surprised when they show an elf intended to use chainsaw to chop the teenage boy

3.) Not so much on the messages. Usually Christmas movies are all about family and the spirit of Christmas to believe things even if you are growing up into an adult. Yet, this movies lack of both. Sure, it is about the struggle of the Pierce family (esp. Kate & Teddy) because of the death of the father, but that's it. Nothing more. This movie was entertaining, but I can't get a deep impression on it. Nothing inspirational, sure several scenes supposed to be emotional moments but nothing really deep or touching enough for me.

Overall, it is still worth to watch. Another light movie for your holiday. Just don't expect too much, though it is still a good one.

Aquaman (2018)
10/10
Awesome. Worth to watch in 3D
20 December 2018
Packed with a lot of fighting scene, background stories of Aquaman and the sea world, love stories, realistic view about what we as the surface residence have done to the sea, great acts, and outstanding visuals. I really love how they depict the sea world, mix between fantasy and high technology. It feels so magical. You can feel how much effort they gave for the visuals, every fine details in it is so captivating.

You can also love all the characters in it, even the villains (or at least you can't really hate 'em). Why? Because even though they are the villains, they have reasons of why they do what they do. Even though it is still wrong, I think you can't really hate what they do.

I think James Wan did amazing job to bring Aquaman on the screen. Also I think you can pick several morals in life throughout the movie: For. Ex Even if you make mistakes in the past, you can always be a better person in the future.

Anyway wait until the end they have post-credit scene for you to watch.

Horrible
16 December 2018
A post-apocalyptic world with steampunk theme, looks promising at first yet minutes after you watch it you will find it boring. Very mainstream ideas without uniqueness. To sum it up: It was a story about villain guy trying to take over the world with dangerous power. The betrayal then led the MC to take revenge over the death of loved ones and save the world by defeating the bad guy.

I struggle to keep myself looking on it and remind myself not to look at my phone (bet the guys on my right side thought the same haha they constantly gave hilarious comment on how silly the movie was. I also noticed several people in the cinema took out their phone, totally ignore the screen, probably as bored as I was) It was totally wasting my time, except maybe I have materials to write a review about it. Haha.

A lot of plot holes in it especially if you don't read the book. So many unfamiliar terms in it. They didn't explain the background of the world they live in. Every character in this movie don't have a decent amount of character development. Pretty shallow and forgettable. It seemed they just throw out the characters without any necessary things to do (only 3 character I see really have lines coherent with the whole story: Hester, Tom, Thaddeus, probably Fang. The other appearances weren't significant to the story imho). Their relation with each other feels forced, bet you will find yourself hardly moved or connected with the characters.

There's no chemistry, the love story at both MC felt enforced. The battle scenes were ridiculous. Even the CGI itself looks cheap. The only one thing able to spark my interest a little bit (and the only reason I gave 1 star) was the past of Hester with Shriek. Even though that part was interesting (with...flaws of course), I could say it didn't save the whole movie. Another thing, I find myself several time pissed off by how stupid the characters were. For ex, there are several moments the character did unnecessary thing which would be illogical to do considering the situations they were in. Maybe it purpose was to give a bit of drama tone, or...just for joke (but it wasn't funny if it was supposed to be a joke)

Totally against you to watch it. Go watch Aquaman, it will save your day.
