Poker Face (2023)
Superb. 10 episodes, weah worthy of being a film in their own right.
Brilliant story telling. Such an impressive range of guest actors, all at the top of their game. The cinematography is such high quality for a tv show.
Episodic nature keeps it fresh but the over arching sub plot of her being on the run is what gives the show its drive.
So imaginative in the various bizarre situations she gets herself into- at no point does anything seem predictable.
The lead character is a unique force of nature with an increasing hint of Columbo in her mystery solving. Nobody can ever fully outsmart her however well they think they've covered their tracks.
Can't wait for season 2.
Ridley Road (2021)
Tough to take?
A disproportionate amount of low scores, not based on the quality of story or acting but perhaps because of an uncomfortable feeling while watching.
People in meetings saying 'we want our country back' portrayed as the bad guys. How can this be?
Important story- resonates with the current political climate. Reinforces how dangerous this mindset can be.
Help (2021)
Superb Acting
Brilliant portrayal of a terrible situation, the tension in parts was so powerful. Steven Graham is always fantastic but this might be his best work yet, the scenes with Jodie comer were outstanding. I'd imagine lots of awards.
A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood (2019)
Quirky start, evolved into a fine film
I Always approach A Tom Hanks film with high hopes, and once again he was fantastic. At first I wasn't sure but once you understand the context it works. Great supporting cast. I've given 8 but I was on the cusp of a 9. Feel good for sure.
Normal People (2020)
Does justice to a brilliant book
Really enjoyed the book a year or so ago. Hoped it would be adapted well, and very pleased to see that it was. Connel's personality is brilliant captured I thought and the actor's range really shines through as the series progresses.
For All Mankind (2019)
Slow burner, really comes into its own
Brilliantly acted throughout- early episodes enjoyable, but largely just getting into its stride. From episode 6 onwards there is great tension in each episode as the plot develops. Not a weak character in the show, and Joel Kinnaman is on top form from the off
When They See Us (2019)
Remarkable acting, harrowing story. Defies belief
Netflix have done some great real life dramatisations. I'm a fan of mind hunter and unbelievable. This tops them. So well made, impressed with the entire cast. Such a powerful story it feels a little bit odd to 'enjoy' a programme like this because of the subject matter, but it is so well made.
Once (2007)
Spellbinding
One of my favourite films. Not spectacular or action packed, but a wonderful story that really engages . Phenomenal songs and standout performances from the 2 leads. Avoids cliche and sentimental predictability.
Smallfoot (2018)
Great fun
Funny, imaginative, intelligent and feel good. Good sound track too.
