They Called Him Mostly Harmless (2024)
This was good what y'all talking bout
Maybe it's a specific genre which show the behind the scenes of amateur detectives/sluethes but I like it. I even like how they show how nutty they get. These groups and people online literally go bonkers, it's hilarious. What is also ironic is it's usually when people try to escape this type of craziness that they end up getting caught up in it after they die or whatever.
Lesson learned: if you ever want to die anonymously please don't go into the woods or to a strange place far from home and leave your id or whatever. You will end up becoming internet famous and have wacky people having gang wars in your name lol.
Killers of the Flower Moon (2023)
Actually terrible
I read the book and was anxiously awaiting the film. The book was fairly dry and matter of fact but the story is fascinating so I was sure that the movie would be fantastic. Maybe Quentin Tarantino would have made a more compelling film. This was actually more boring than the book, a bunch of stuff was added that I don't know if they made up or whether further research uncovered. They also managed to make it confusing. The editing was poor, the lighting was terrible and DiCaprio had a perpetual scowl throughout the film. I would say I was most impressed by the actress who played Mollie. Overall so very disappointing.
Drops of God: All or Nothing (2023)
Kinda depressing
The ending confused me a bit, I was like, why didn't they just decide to let one win and then split it, but then I guess that's what Camille ends up doing, she just didn't plan it with Issei I guess? A better ending would have maybe been for her to tell him the answer, forcing the estate to be split and "outsmarting" the father, I mean, how many fricken tests could he have thought up in case of a tie lol.
I also thought it ironic that you're thinking almost the whole time how her mom was just a b**** and in the end she was actually right about Alexandre, he was selfish and sadistic (did his remains stay there behind her dusty luggage??) :D I don't know, I just ended up feeling bad for Issei and his parents in a way in the end I guess. Kind of a sad ending for them.
Mind Over Murder (2022)
So Incredibly Powerful
I, like other viewers, would virtually roll my eyes the first 5.5 episodes when they would show the community play group. Like, ok, a bunch of hipsters making a local play about a tragedy. But when they showed the parts of the actual production, it was amazing. They seemed to have truly taken the relevant parts of what happened and managed to put it together in a compassionate and accurate way. So in a sense it was a production within a production, and both were very well told. I even got the lesson which I think the whole documentary was trying to impart about the dangers of prejudging. This was just an amazing, eye opening real life story of humans and how imperfect we are in so many ways. So tragic, so important and thank you to those who made this.
Bobby and Sophie on the Coast (2022)
Great show
This was thoroughly entertaining. Bobby and his daughter Sophie are charming together and show some great places, from casual to fine dining. I liked how it felt genuine, he is a celebrity chef and the show unapologetically reflects that. Great start!
Claim to Fame (2022)
Haters back off!!!
This a clever show! Yeah, some things could probably be tweaked but it's super entertaining and even has twists along the way... fun stuff!
My guess on Lark's not-yet-revealed relative: Cindy Crawford!!! :P -----
Crime Scene: The Vanishing at the Cecil Hotel (2021)
She went to the exact wrong place to have a mental breakdown
This story was fascinating. I almost didn't watch it due to the reviews and I'm glad I went against my instincts. I can also appreciate the direction that they went with this because the bloggers were part of the story.
The part towards the end will hopefully make things click for you too (the scene where the manager described the victim's behavior in the lobby). This is a story of so many things coming together to create a tragedy, the person, place and decisions all working in synchrony with a disastrous result. Kudos to the creators of this production, I certainly got something out of it.
