The Snowman (2017)
I really wanted it to be good, but it's mostly a mess, with great visuals.
Let's start off with me saying that I loved the source material when I read it a few years ago, and when I saw that it's gonna get a movie adaptation I was really hyped for it. This movie had every chance of being something amazing, the book it's based on, the director, the cast would all be amazing, but somehow they messed the whole thing up.
They changed parts of the book without thinking how it would effect the whole story, there are scenes in the trailer that are completely missing from the movie, and they didn't put enough time into character development. The first half showed some potential, but in the end there were multiple plot lines left hanging without much explanation. Plus they totally dumbed down the killer and his motivation, and messed up the killer reveal(that was really well done in the book, at least in my opinion), and the endgame. The killer runs away with Harry's loaded gun, but Harry the super-detective doesn't think that he might come back and shoot them, so he unties Rakel and Oleg to have a little emotional time....And then he runs out to chase down the killer who could just be hiding around the house to shoot him in the back, but no. Harry just goes after him, although he has no idea which way the killer might have gone. And when he catches up he gets shot, and he starts discussing that the killer has a wrong ideology just so he would walk closer. But why did the killer have to take a few more steps at the end? He could have shot Harry from that range easily, but no, he had to go really close, so he can fall into that conveniently placed hole in the ice and die. Oh and I just absolutely loved that they teased the adaptation for The Leopard, but seeing how this movie fell on its face I highly doubt that we'll see that happen soon, or maybe ever.
I expected more from Tomas Alfredson, although it's not entirely his fault how this turned out. But at least you can see the beautiful landscapes of Norway, right?
Blade Runner 2049 (2017)
It's almost perfect, almost...
A very well done movie that lives up to its predecessor, but at the same time not afraid to differ from it. The visuals, the characters, the story are amazing and different from the original, keeping just enough of the story, the style and the characters so you could say it's a continuation and not a reboot or a spin-off. I have one little problem, maybe it's just me but at the end I felt like it could go on for another hour so we could see the replicant uprising, the fall of Wallace, and the full reconnect between Deckard and his daughter. I just didn't want it to end where it did. They better not wait another 35 years to make it into a trilogy.
Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets (2017)
Looks amazing, but kinda dumb.
One thing about this movie that was amazing is the visuals. The acting was OK, plus the first half had a few exciting action scenes, and that's it. Everything else had a ton of problems including the story, the conversations, and what seemed to be the main message: love is the most powerful thing. I mean really? That little dumb sci-fi Poirot session around the end when Valerian tells you once again what we have seen so far and reveals the "killer" at the end, who we already know what he did. Valerian says barely any new information there, making it look like that they think that the audience is stupid. Plus when Valerian and Laureline "finally" get together at the end the movie almost immediately ends. Well I was a little relieved I must say, because the second half felt way too dragged out.
All together it was watchable, but I would have expected more story-wise from Luc Besson.
The Walking Dead: The Next World (2016)
Wow. I felt like I'm watching a comedy show.
It wasn't a totally bad episode like the previous one, but seriously guys? Episode made me laugh more than most of these modern "comedy" shows. What they did with the truck, and the guy they meet calls himself Jesus, plus that Enid+Carl scene in the forest. Carl was like women there's just problem with them. His face expression totally made the episode. Plus this whole Rick getting together with Michonne...., his previous "girlfriend" just got torn apart by zombies and he's like: "Hmmmmm, I like dark chocolate, don't mind if have a taste."
If they would add comedy to the genres it would be totally okay. As far as I can remember, correct me if I'm wrong, but Andrew Lincold said that this will be the most action packed 8 episode that he made. Good for him I say, if you know what I mean. Well it contains action, but a different kind.
