Triangle of Sadness (2022)
Best movie of 2022
Wow. This movie just made me so excited about going back to the movies. I really like this cast, I think the cast/characters is what really carries the movie (in a good way) but also there's so much other stuff to appreciate, such as the writing & story.
This movie is excellent and it really exceeded my expectations. Harry, Charlibi (rest in peace) & of course Woody make this movie so fun. This is director Ruben Östlund's first English language film & it really feels like you are watching an international movie in English (in the best way possible) & it really makes me interested in his other.
I highly recommend this movie, if you're undecided about viewing.
Tár (2022)
Blown away.
I've been craving a truly great, sophisticated drama lately and this movie gave me everything I've been looking for. Great acting, great writing, great directing & just an overall expertly crafted film in every sense. Cate & Todd are at the top of their game here and it's simply beautiful to watch. Highly recommend watching this in a theatre if it's playing anywhere near you. This movie is gorgeous enough to watch on the big screen.
This movie really just has a lot of emotion that's been missing from movies these days. I think a lot of people are really glad that movie theatres are back after two years of lockdowns and mandates, but there's been so much great stuff coming out that's made being a movie goer exciting again. Tar is an excellent movie theatre experience.
Sense and Sensibility (1995)
Jane Austen would be proud.
In my opinion, this is the quintessential jane austen film adaption. One of the all time great period pieces. If only Austen were here to see that one of her most famous novels would one day be turned into one of the great american classics of all time. I believe she would've loved this beautiful adaption of her work. Thank you to ang lee, emma thompson and of course ms austen herself, for creating this beautiful story and these iconic, beloved characters.
Cruella (2021)
Completely surpassed my expectations
I have to say I'm really not a fan of the plague of live action disney remakes that have been flooding movie theatres for the past 10 years. It was cute when tim burton decided to remake alice in wonderland.. by the time every disney movie had AT LEAST one live action remake.. well lets just say Disneys complete lack of originality is starting to show. Anyway, i am actually a big emma stone fan, have been for many years, so when my friend told me she was dying to watch the new cruella movie, i thought 'well its emma stone playing an iconic disney villain, how unbearable can it really be.' I saw it in theatres and I just have to say it's been a long time since I enjoyed a movie in theatres this much. I was completely blown away. Everything about this movie works so well. A few highlights to me were the soundtrack, and the characters. Emma Thompsons' baroness was a major highlight in this. Thompson is just so funny in the role, playing a deliciously evil cruella-esque character, i loved it!! Also the side characters - Jasper and Horace. Normally I really don't appreciate the annoying, unfunny, unlikeable 'side characters that are there to make childish unfunny jokes for the sake of comic relief' but these characters were one of my favourite parts of the movie. They were both a) actually funny and b) not annoying, and actually contributed to the film and story. I have to say I'm actually excited for the sequel, which is something I can't believe I would say, but I just can't wait to see these characters again, and i love craig as a director so much, I am so excited to see where he takes this story next. Highly recommend this movie!
Hauru no ugoku shiro (2004)
My favourite movie.
Miyazaki has gifted creativity. Catching lightning in a bottle time after time. Every single shot of this movie is gorgeous, a real piece of 21st century art.
Cinderella (2021)
I just really didn't like this at all
I was looking forward to the release of this actually, I'm a big fan of camila cabello and idina menzel, and although cinderella has been done many many times already, I like to see new interesting takes to classic stories and i could never get enough of them to be honest, and this one had original music yay!! All of that being said, I was very disappointed by this one. Besides some good actors, (james corden ugh) and a great introductory performance by Cabello, this movie just fell completely flat in my opinion. I didn't like the songs, the vibe (billy's fairy godmother oh god) or anything really besides some of the actors. Overall, very forgettable and nothing unique or special at all.
China Beach (1988)
Super nostalgic, classic series
China beach is filled with emotion and heart. It's a beautiful show that still holds up. Just a great overall comfort show that is everything a tv series should be.
