Devilman (2004)
1/10
Over-hyped and Wasted Money

This movie was honestly pitiful. I'm a fan of the Devilman series and this movie was one of the most horrible portrayals of such a memorable and amazing series. The cast consists of a lot of teen pop idols and they couldn't act even if their life depended on it. The "stance" the main character goes into when he's between his human and devil form is just horrific to watch. And he even walks around in the freakin stance! The fight choreagraphy is just plain horrid as well. When Akira is fighting Syrene that was absolutely pitiful. I was kind of disappointed also in the fact that a lot of the movie was CG. It gave the movie a game feeling most of the time. Another thing was the fact that they modified the story a bit. And that was one of the biggest reasons that made this movie so bad. You're better off watching the trailer if you want to get a glimpse of the good stuff. I was so hyped when I saw the trailer but once I saw the movie, the trailer was even better. If you want to see a great rendition of the series watch the OVA.

Very enjoyable and interesting

Warning: Spoilers
Well, I just saw it and it was pretty good. Johnny Depp did a great job as Willy Wonka. The way he portrayed Wonka's twisted love for candy was simply amazing. It was eerie, yet you'd expect it. Gene Wilder's portrayal of Wonka was okay, but that was merely just a childish appreciation of candy. As for Depp's portrayal, he was driven to the point to acknowledging candy to be the root of all reasoning. And Burton's style was clearly evident throughout the movie and totally helped strengthen the movie. A couple things that got to me was the Grandpa, the scene where he was dancing kind of annoyed and disappointed me. I was kinda of scared when I saw him do that... Also, I personally didn't like the songs the Oompa Loompas sang. They just weren't as cool as the originals. The cast for the kids were chosen and played very well. The only thing I'm currently basing this on is the movie, because I still have yet to read the book. The flashbacks were great though, by doing that Willy Wonka is developed to the point where you can realize what's driven him to do the things he has done. All in all, it was a very enjoyable film and just plain good fun.
