Poor Things (2023)

Wow Erm....
12 March 2024
Warning: Spoilers
A female Frankenstein that goes a tad far.

While I appreciate the premise something's don't always need to go that far!

We meet Dr Godfrey a mad scientist who's father also a doctor performed horrid experiments on him as a child thus he growns up to be a brilliant scientist and doctor who's moral compass is so far off he performs unforgivable experiment in the name of the advancements of science.

This brings us to Bella his most remarkable experiment yet born from a pregnant women who has committed suicide, he takes the unborn babies brain and implants into the mothers head.. we meet Bella with the body of a woman and the brain of a toddler learning to speak and walk, tantrums and stroppy mood swings.

And here's where I feel like it goes too far! 2 men fall In love with a child one sweeps her away on a tour of the world whilst romping her senseless... (A child) Then it's really about sex, yes it's about female empowerment and I'm all for that but this is my opinion isn't the way to show it!

As for performances Emma stone amazing fully deserved of the the oscar it really is a phenomenal characterisation of Bella.

And the rest of the cast as I would call the supporting roles also feed the film superbly.

The setting and costumes are also nailed down.

This won't be to everyones taste but it's still worth a watch.

Something you do your ironing to
13 January 2024
I have a soft spot for Cena and Alison Brie so this is is a win win yes?....nope!

Films kinda pony, sorry!

It's not really a comedy, its light hearted sure bit not sure I laughed once if I'm honest, action is a tad slap stick and sloppy kinda poor effects too, not low budget sci-fi bad but could have been alot better, acting honestly panto style from all and story lo key weak.. This was the kind of rushed out the door kind of film we got during lockdown.

Best I can say is, it's not unwatchable, something you can have on in the background whilst your ploughing through a week's worth of Ironing that's about it.

Lazy Film Hideous
28 July 2023
First of all I love a terrible film, films that are ment to be terrible on purpose, Sharknado, Lavalatula and so on, but this flaming turd was Terrible out of spite! Police station, flood, few convicts and few crocs come in a start killing that's literally it! For £9.99 of Rakuten! No abnormal abilities just big crocs that Steve Irwin could tickle under the chin! It's was lazy for the sake of it!

I mean female lead was kinda hot and Rico from starship troopers was in it.... I'm clutching for positives here!

Oh wait during the credits I noticed the COVID compliance officers name started with porn ha ha #positive I think the one start is fair given the price to buy!

The Most Nick Cage Film Ever
29 May 2023
Ol' Cagey either makes hilariously bad or good films never in between, and in this Comedy Gore horror you have a hilariously good film whereby his acting is so bad it works even down to the fact he only says the work Dracula with an accent the rest of the time he's just nick cage with some pointy teeth, but his shouty eccentric style fits the role.

The rest fits well hoults part narrative and live action with the gorey fight scenes that are not to over the top it gets a bit much.

The approach of a tourtured assistant going to a church group therapy meeting is brilliant, Other than that the plot is fairly Standard but entertaining, funny and well paced.

Beware you'll be disappointed if cancelled
29 May 2023
I'm not entirely sure if this started out as a comedy or a spoof of star trek but it's low key brilliant!

This has a subtle comedic element but still manages to have a great story line which touches on real issues the world faces today on a daily basis, they touch on everything from war, slavery, gender, social inclusion and equality! All without being too in your face about.

I was unsure whether I'd like it, I love family guy but wasn't sure the format would translate to a live action show, however it's really nothing like family guy so hats off to Seth on producing something so different yet equally brilliant.

Good Non Thinker
2 May 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Listen not all films have to be a mystery wrapped in a metaphor wrapped in wokeness to get a good rating and this is one of those films!

A spaceship from a distance civilization developed light years closer to the big bang than earth have developed the art of space travel (tis possible) send out a space ship to explore space goes down after being hit in a meteor cluster and crash lands on planet earth... 65 million years ago when dinosaurs roamed the planet (I think it was a clever way to merge the story with history) A race against time to get off the planet without being killed by a dinosaur and before (the big one hits) Its not all action and the lack of conversation in the film speaks volumes, sometimes I wonder what people want with the poor reviews, will it blow your mind? No! Is it better than most of the nonsense films out recently? Absolutely!

Good Old School Espionage Drama
27 March 2023
Il be honest off the Bat the acting in this isn't great and I kinda worked out who was the bad guy fairly quickly! But I did enjoy it and the below par acting actually works with the dry persona of agents and how you would expect them to behave, so it actually really worked well!

Well paced series that unfolds and gains momentum each episode to a well rounded season finale, violence not to over the top if anything maybe a little more would be good, some of the hits would have been good to cut back to mid interrogation so you get a feel for the hit man and woman's sadistic nature but that's all I missed.

Other than that great binge fest and will be extremely annoyed if they make a season 2 and cancel on a cliff hanger like Netflix usually do! It's really they only thing to worry about when picking up a new netflix show to watch!

Sad Face!
29 January 2023
I'm a huge Teen Wolf Nerd so it's hard for me to say this but the film didn't work!

The reason The series worked so well was character development throughout the season/season's so in a film in which you have 2 hrs something to skip 16 years into the future you need to bring us up to date a little!

Eli - no character info! Just that he's Derek's son and hates transforming since seeing his dad do so as a toddler (don't add new characters if you can't give the time to the backstory!) Who's his mum?

Styles not being in it - reason kinda weak! Would have gone with don't involve this time due to the history with the villan!

Gaps in story! Malia (not with Scott where they ended the series?) Why... What happened? Just jumped to her having sex with Parish (again no backstory or context) Her performance as a side note was unnatural and awkward!

Scott - what's happened to him...why doesn't he have a pack anymore at the start of the film, why is he depressed and down... No context again...see a theme here?

Sheriff Stalinski has some how learned hand to hand combat!

We have a villan who was sacrificed and somehow came back to life without ...(what am I going to say?) Thats right! Back story or context!

Listen I hope they make more I really do! I loved this series and wish it continued for a bit longer but the film sucks it's rushed the writing isn't up to JD standard the story telling wasn't there! The cast seemed a tad weird... Lydia (Hollen Rodan) looked like she's not acted for years and had ring rust, I mentioned Shelley as looking awkward and uncomfortable the whole film! And Alison (please don't have and more work done! For goodness sake!) Face was too tight to even smile! And she was already incredibly stunning before the work!

Peter Hale didn't fit or really nail his old characteristics was a bit over the top! Must have been in theatre between series and film... Derek nailed the film though Tyler Hochelin hats off! One saving grace!

Scandi Flick a return to brilliance
9 October 2022
I wasn't a fan of the Grand Tour unfortunately they couldn't take to much of the format they developed with them because the BBC owned it.. but this really was a return to form! Clarkson Hammond and May doing stupid stuff on a long drive in 3 cars whilst pushing them too the limits!

Scandinavia in 3 4x4 rally or rally type vehicles RS4 (the non rally 4x4 a Evo and a WRX STI All 3 looked great fun to drive and you can see the lads seemed to really enjoy blasting around the snow in them, Shame they are getting on a bit now because I'd like to see a few more specials like this before they retire.

Over an 8 really?
18 September 2022
I grew up with Karate Kid these were some of my favourite films! So when I heard YouTube were making a series I was all in!

I loved it... Even though it was a bit too much cheese for me, I didn't understand how winning a all valley karate comp is being used to create Russo adult success..it hilarious! But non the less nostalgia took over and I was hooked!

Season 2 came and still it was fun Season 3 and Netflix take over and although the season was ok the nostalgia wore off.

How they kept it going for season 4 / 5 is beyond me!

Once they rehashed one movie story line they moved onto the next rehashed movie storyline... And it's all too far fetched and I've seen the latest fast and furious where they drive a car in space....yeah!

I don't understand how folk are rating this at an 8.5 overall that nearly Stranger things and breaking bad territory...come on people!

So Torn
8 September 2022
This is a good film but serves no real purpose in the MCU plot lines going forward, Thor is now a comedy and a very funny and good one but where as most marvel films have light hearted moments throughout this really just makes you laugh throughout, it's romantic and genuine Natalie Portman is awesome as both a sickly cancer patient and kick ass mighty thor and Hemsworth really hams up the lost puppy just trying to do good.

Bale great villan! Plays the role to perfection and I'd expect nothing less

Cameos are fun and plentiful

So in summary as part of a MCU saga I don't think I works at all, but as a standalone series hell yeah keep em coming!

I'd like to see another one as a natural follow on.

Perfect Sequel
24 August 2022
If your not a fan of Top Gun then maybe avoid this but still it's great imo All the nostalgia you want with a refresh, new relationships to navigate old blood history potentially repeating itself...? But Please don't watch this on a tablet or a phone! If you still can get at your local cinema then go it's made for a big sound system and a big screen, if not turn off the lights and turn up the volume and you'll feel the need....the need for speeed!

5 August 2022
I wanted to like it but I'm not even going to bother explaining why it was bad.

If you like the first of the new trilogy and found the 2nd ok but not good then don't bother with this one.. because you have the same taste as me... 14.99 home release waste of dosh.

Fluff
8 July 2022
It's a fluff film, you can have it on in background whilst working and still see what's going on!

The combo doesn't work Sandra B whilst still stunning I think some works been done face looked tight and emotionless for most of the film and I think it's makes her look older! And just a tad too old for the younger male. The 15ish year gap seemed noticeable (maybe be design) Still it wasn't the chemistry of the Bullock/Reynolds of the Proposal 2009 where the gaps played apon but still you got the feeling they wanted to go at it like savage beasts... I feel this would have been a straight to DVD film back in the day almost like half the turd fests Netflix pump out.

But it's got some fun and silliness to it so fair play.

More Range from Pratt
6 July 2022
If your looking for fun time Pratt this isn't for you! Pratt delivers a Solomon and depressed performance perfectly fitting of the the role and setup! Proving this guy isn't just Andy from Parks and Rec, Star Lord from Marvel but something deeper and more.meaningful!

The series is good some simple plot like bits to it, but also some twists Great 1 series story can't see how they make this a reoccurring series story...not without spoiling the work of the first.

Clearly Watched A Different Film
24 May 2022
I cannot understand the 5.5ish overall rating...very harsh!

Story is classic one bad guy, backstory clean and effective to give context to the film/series going forward.

The film has clean build up and simple flow which to some maybe be a bit too simple but actually it's quite refreshing from the overly complicated films with no context we have seen lately.

One complain .... More Gore!!!

Watchable But Forgettable
9 May 2022
It's Tomb Raider mixed with The Goonies.... All very predictable and all done before.

Tom Holland is a likeable fella in pretty much all films so your invested in him as a character but after that it's all the same.

Should have seen it sooner
7 February 2022
This is supposed to be closer to the original story then Disney's and I won't lie I prefer it!

The One thing I hated about the film is the one thing that was kinda necessary for it to work! But I'm a big softy so was hard to see! (You'll understand when it happens) Other than that it's a darker story that leaves you thinking about your impact on the world around you without being in your face about it.

Good job!

Don't rent on early home release
21 January 2022
This film is pure garbage, cost 15.99 on early home release should have gone straight to DVD absolute P'take they used the Earl home release this to get max dosh out of people.

I have never rated a film below a 4 ever and that happened once...this I gave a 3.

Anyway rushed nonsense and didn't need a reboot.

Yeah Honestly It's Good
14 January 2022
I really enjoyed this film! Great line/Casting choices Plot was clean and not overly worked or complicated which is perfect for the genre.

Had the charm of the originals too I was just a baby when the originals came out what 35 years ago and grew up with the films and toys so it was nice to see them not mess it up...like a certain 2016 version.

Hope the make.another and keep the same.format light and entertaining.

Eternals (2021)
6/10
A very mixed bag!
13 January 2022
Enternals is proof that the MCU isn't always good but is always watchable.

The film itself isn't bad, it has plenty of action and comic relief as we expect with the MCU.

The plot is a obvious save the world job and so it should be, we have a moral divide and thought provoking villain/villains and I liked that!

The problem really comes from the back story/character development 10 Eternals send to Earth 7000 years ago to fight the evil preventing human civilization from flourishing (I watched this last night I think I remember maybe 5 names) and that's part of the problem.

We are introduced to the Eternals they day they land and have several cut scenes showing the battles won ( with very little to no character backstory or development) then it just cuts to modern day we learn almost nothing about them why they choose the path they did when they go separate ways..very wishy washy then all of a sudden boom.bad guy...fights internally (with the family) win war against bad guy end credit scenes.. Nothing wrong with the casting the quality of acting even the plot really it's just you can't get invested in a character without knowing them.

Maybe make it a 3hr film spend time getting to knwlow them first... Or as a friend suggested so brilliantly when I was trying to think of how they could fit this all in without making it 3hrs long......should have been a series instead! Nailed it.

Oh Man I need a Bottle of something strong!
8 January 2022
Just binged the whole Craig bond series (yes I was behind) They are all pretty good includijg this!

One gripe is Bond films should leave you needing happy tissues (wink wink) I needed sad tissues and bottle of wine I ended in a Sobbing mess!

Despite that it's brilliant, loved the whole casting! Malek is kinda cooky in real life and plays on that perfectly to create a truly worrying villan.

Madeline plays the role wonderfully and your left being in love with her too!

Craig really has.got better as bond as the series of films went on!

Probably the best Marvel film made
21 December 2021
As a whole the MCU saga has been top draw, yes some have been a little flakey but still fun to watch which is where ive always been with all Spiderman films never disliked them just really didn't get into them, The MCU versions have been ok and I've usually waited until rent or release to watch them until no way home! Heard great things and haven't been to the cinema in forever due to proxy pandemic! Well this was a real treat it's an epic story start to finish! Plenty of laughs and Easter eggs if your into spotting those and honestly don't have a.bad word to say about it!
