Simple Script - Superb Film
10 September 2015
Redford is a great actor and works well in this film. He makes a simple script come alive on screen. As a filmmaker, it was interesting to see how a dialogue-free movie can work visually. For me, the story was a metaphor or allegory for life and our struggles. Cinematography was good, it was shot on the hottest camera of the time. The lack of dialogue and having only one actor made it a meditation for me on the visual elements. There were no distractions, just you and the actor. This movie is inspiring in actors to show that you can more than just words. Acting is much more than just memorisation and spitting them out. If you miss this movie then you will miss out - its great.

Must watch Maritime Movie!
1 September 2015
I really really like this film. Peter Finch is outstanding as Captain Langsdorf of the German Battleship Admiral Graf Spee. I love the swashbuckling entrance that he makes with Captain Dove (He is the captain of a merchant ship that was sunk by the Admiral Graf Spee). There are so many stand out actors in this film, Christopher Lee, Anthony Quale and John Gregson. The Directors Emeric Pressburger and Michael Powell both work together really well, the cinematography is just amazing, their choice of shots outstanding. Every single character in this film is just outstanding. I think the shots of real ships, that took place during the real battles just makes it for me. I feel like I am on the boat watching action real time! Well worth watching, not to be missed.

Fantastic Pirate Film
1 September 2015
This is just a fantastic pirate film. In fact to be honest its just a fantastic film altogether! Something about the film is just as good today as it was when it was made! 80 years ago! Has it really been 80 years! This was like Robin Hood of the sea kind of film. The film is like justice over law, robbing the rich and giving to the poor kind of idea.

Flynn is a Doctor who found himself on the wrong side of one of the United Kingdom's many civil wars, he was sent away to be a slave in one of the outer colonies, you only need to just see the way he stares at the judge! It says everything you need to know right their!

He didn't choose to become an outlaw and he just does what he needs to in order to survive (maybe get a little revenge).

Superb adaptation of the Tom Clancy Novel
19 August 2015
Has it really been 25 years now since its release its shocking to think about it. I am still in absolute awe by the calibre of the film. The Director McTiernan has made what was an averagely good book by Clancy into an outstanding political thriller.

The complexity of the film is extremely challenging. Tom Clancy's plots are notorious for starting with different threads and of course they interweave with each other somewhere in the book. the Screenwriter Larry Ferguson manages to take apart each of those threads and models the film based on dual protagonists, played by Connery and Baldwin. Each of the supporting actors (including current TN Sen. Fred Thompson) that appear on screen subsequently all have distinct crucial roles to the plot.

This is by far Baldwin's best role ever, he truly shines as the intelligent and patriotic Jack Ryan, he is a true thinking man's hero. I should say that Connery lends incredible presence, as usual, to his interpretation of Ramius.

A pure masterpiece absolutely superb!

Wonderful timeless classic
19 August 2015
I admit on this particular story I'm not so au fait with they exact facts, so I am just reviewing this film based on what it is. A Truly wonderful timeless classic film. I am a big fan of Raul Walsh whom directed this film, in this film he has created another masterpiece. A 19th Century Captain of a British Fleet, the film is taken from the books of C. F. Forester. Gregory Peck is just amazing in his role of Captain Horatio Hornblower, Hornblower is a simple honest man who believes in his duty and honour. The scenery and film score add to the quality of this film, there are some superb wonderful truly romantic scenes with Lady Barbara Wellesley and also superbly acted by Virginia Mayo. This is just another great time classic film with a truly majestic director.

Excellent Film Good Pace No Let Up
13 August 2015
This film is a really good suspense drama, from start to finish its edge of your seat drama. The plot is really very realistic and it will make you think all the way through. It could happen to me! Absolutely nothing about this could be considered made up or even far fetched, every scene just perfectly directed and acted out wonderfully I can't say enough about how realistic it is. Along side the excellent acting the sound track is just as intense. There are a couple of minor issues which is what reduces the rating of the film down from a 10 to a 7 but there is enough drama, action to make it a film well worth watching. Make sure you strap yourself to the sofa before you sit down and start watching it!

A Wonderful Romantic Adventure set at sea
7 August 2015
This film was made when all the cast were truly at their peak. I simply love it. The stars all look so young and glamorous, Paulette Goddard was for me the stand out actress. In my humble opinion Paulette has been overlooked by so many people, she was a beautiful gorgeous star. When they released this movie I think it was a real shame they didn't promote her name on the sleeve. They chose to put Susan Hayward's name instead and she didn't even have a big part to play! To be honest it wasn't the first time they put Paulette's name last. Paulette was the star of the movie. She was such a gifted actress who could turn herself to comedy or drama as the need arises.

The Best British Wartime Classic EVER
6 August 2015
This movie is all about the HMS Torrin, its story its told my its crew members in a flashback style whilst they wait to be rescued in the Mediterranean Sea post sinking of the ship.

This was a big deal for Noel Coward because he had three roles, producer, writer and co-director. He shared the role of director with David Lean. This film may be some 70 years old but it is just as good today as it was then. The scripting shows its age with some of the dialogue used but because of a strong performance from a stand out cast this saves the film in my opinion. This film was a debut performance for Richard Attenborough.

Some people might think that its portrayal of life in the Royal Navy during wartime is a little bit over embellished we should keep in mind that in 1942 there was no sign of victory over Germany. I am sure that it served as a moral booster for those serving. Its done well to last 70 years and remain a good solid movie.

I love this film and especially love this version
31 July 2015
This is one of my all time favourite films, I love films that come from books and they have to be well made. Too many people compare this release to the 1930's version, but I find that the pace of the film is better in this version, further the production is just so much better. I will say the reason that I gave it a 7 is some of the cast's performance Brando's portrayal of Mr Christian is hard to believe, he played the part OK, just don't get it. I think Trevor Howard's performance as Bligh was much better, if only underrated. To play a role so well portrayed by others and make it your own is very hard to do. But he did it.

Its not the original but enjoyable and entertaining worth watching.

Moby Dick (1956)

Legendary Movie - Moby Dick
31 July 2015
This film comes from one of the best books ever written, the tall task of taking such an iconic classic and making it into a film, no small order. Yet thanks to Ray Bradbury for writing the screenplay than enabled John Huston to make this film worthy of the book.

I think maybe this film just hasn't graced the TV Screens more than it has is just a shame, it makes me wonder is this the reason that its not one of the all time greatest movies. There are so many timeless classics I know its impossible for them all to make it but still a shame.

Gregory Peck as Ahab, Orsen Wells as the minister, both performances make this a stand out movie. Both actor's brought so much to this film, maybe some of the special effects let the film down a tad, but that's why its an 8 not a 10. Still well worthy of a watch. Enjoy.

Wonderful film capturing the era perfectly.
31 July 2015
There aren't too many films around even to this day that manage to capture the time period in which this original story is set somehow this film manages to avoid all the problems with others in its class came up against. If you are new to this period then this film is so good a teacher could us it in class. Yes its true the attention to detail is that good.

The film is very realistic in its pursuit to portray an old British ship in pursuit of a modern French warship. What can I say about this film that hasn't already been said, the attention to detail excellent, the length of the film gives the director more than enough time to develop his characters. Its hard to believe some of the cast members were just 12 years old when they made this film.

The performance by the lead actors Crowe and Bettany is equal to that of the production values. Just mind-blowing. Some say almost Richard Burton like.

The director ignored previous films about disease and brutality but this depicts order through respect and comradeship.

Just watch the damn thing already its that good your in for a treat.

Never forget my first time
31 July 2015
This film is just one of them films, it was ahead of its time. Terrifying, weeks of nightmares after but well worth it. You watch this film and you really believe its you about to eaten by the Shark. You put yourself in the water, in the cabin on the boat you can almost smell that Shark circling you. And you know its hungry!

The screenplay, the acting, the production even the robotic shark all so very realistic. I really think that Jaws was one of if not the best film Stephen Spielberg has ever made by far. Yes we love ET but its nothing like as frightening as Jaws.

A scary film that even kids love to watch!

My favourite Disney Movie - perfect adaptation of a fantastic book.
31 July 2015
The director of this film, Richard Fleischer, delivers a film in true Disney spirit that even a huge fan of the waves like myself falls in love with. There is humour in this adventure and this shows with the dialogues and screenplay. Captain Nemo has a grudge against everything. I think he actually has a grudge against mother earth herself.

I think Nemo considers himself ruler of the ocean and through his machine Nautilus he is able to put his belief into reality with such power. James Mason is outstanding in his part of Captain Nemo, Kirk Douglas plays a fantastic part of Ned Land, he has such a gift to make his character likable and funny at the same time. Paul Lukas and Peter Lorre also magnificent.

Even though this film is 60 years old it can still hold its own! Watch it you won't be disappointed.
