Some great stuff but WAY too long
9 May 2024
Warning: Spoilers
There were many good and bad things about this roast. More good than bad. I agree with some of the other reviews but think some people don't know what is roast is about. Let's separate the good and the bad.

Good
  • Tom Brady appears to have a sense of humor
  • Kevin Hart is pretty funny but were their timing issues?

  • Drew made me laugh. Some of the other football guys were pretty funny.

  • Nicki is incredibly funny. Thank god she was there.

  • Bill B there was pretty funny and he can take a good joke at his expense.

Meh
  • Tom certainly felt some ire with Jeff's jokes. Remember they are just jokes. Don't sign up for a roast if you are going to say "Don't say that again".

  • Way too long. I love roasts but geez an actual beef roast cooks faster than this roast.

  • This is a tough one. I don't think people should joke about Aaron at all. I know I have heard that everything is okay to joke about if you are a comedian. Here I found it was not funny. But talking with some friends, they found it hilarious
  • Was the only reason Kim K was there to make black dick jokes? Having her there (and also she was booed so much) seemed out of place but perhaps that is just me.

I wonder why Lisa Lampanelli was not there. She is amazing at roasting. Where was Anthony Jeselnik? You know Martha Stewart savagely roasted Justin Bieber. She would have been amazing too.

That accent is just horrendous
17 February 2022
I found Julia Garner's accent is be horrendous. It is difficult to listen to and detracts from entire series. However, she is a good actress. I like the supporting cast like Anthony Edwards, Anna Chlumsky, Laverne Cox, and Alexis Floyd to be quite strong.

The story, however, is quite riveting. Hard to believe that she was able to fool so many people.

Very intense subject about the true story of Elisabeth Fritzl
7 March 2021
Warning: Spoilers
It is scary to know that there are people who would do this to their own children.

The acting is good with Judd Nelson kinda freaking me out because this isn't like any other role I have seen him in. He definitely portrays a man with some sort of mental issues.

I also enjoyed Joely Fisher as the concerned but oblivious mom. I don't think I have seen Stephanie Scott in other movies but she certainly did a great job on such a horrible role. I am sure we will be seeing more of her.

The story is quite difficult to watch as it unfolds.

The Queens (2019)

A good history of some of the popular drag queens
11 June 2020
Warning: Spoilers
I should say that you would probably like this if you like "RuPaul's Drag Race". I wanted to watch this because I do enjoy getting to know knowing more about the celebrities that I am watching.

The one thing that I notice is that most of these queens have an amazing talent before they were ever on television.

Getting to see so many drag queens was great both in and out of drag. I like the brutal honesty that I saw. Alaska in particular has made it past all the negativity and is using that in her celebrity.

Some important moments in history. The horrible event in Orlando at Pulse Night Club brought up some deep feelings. It was so nice to see some of the friendships that some of these queens have.

Drag is realness.

Now I want to read the book!
6 June 2020
Warning: Spoilers
I think I might be the only person who enjoyed Kerry Washington here. But that may be because I did not watch Scandal or many other things with her in it.

The cast was superb though. Reese ,of course, excels in almost everything that she does. I wish Joshua Jackson had more screen time.

While all the kids in the show were great, I was really impressive with the Izzie character. As a mom, to hear her mom say some of the things she did, it just broke my heart.

There were so many stories weaved into this show. I look forward to season two!

All of these stories were played out in the media
4 June 2020
Warning: Spoilers
I think many people read about these in the media and have made an some sort of assessment based on what they heard. The title is somewhat tongue in cheek.

There are many stories out there just waiting to be told so I hope that there is a second series.

Both sides of the stories were told. I found that there was a big focus on the lawyers though.

41 shots was heart breaking. Talk Show Murder was also difficult to watch. The latter is a prime example of ambushing people on nation-wide television all for the sake of ratings.

No comparison to the original
31 December 2018
I would have to say that this is not really as good as the original.

There was little character development at the beginning so you don't really get to know these two. I was not a fan of either actresses although I have seen them in other shows/movies and they were decent.

I think most American remakes do not live up to the original. While, this may be a reimagining, it is loosely based on the original. This is another remake that should not have been done.

Too long to get going
20 October 2018
I agree with other posters that I wanted to turn it off by 30 minutes. I had no idea where the story was going. I don't think it had to do with the actors because I thought they were fine.

The story moved too slow and back stories were not built well enough for everyone other than Audrey and Morgan.

But loved seeing Gillian Anderson in the boss role!!

Strahan is awesome!
27 August 2018
When he was first selected as a co-host with Kelly Ripa, I was pretty disappointed because I thought others would have been much better. Then, I watched him and he was great.

He is absolutely the perfect person as host of this program. He is witty and really gets into the game as well.

I like some of the guests especially Leslie Jones. I love her on SNL but I watched her help someone win $100,000 and she was so overwhelmed and happy that she was a part of it. Most of the celebrities are huggers especially after helping someone win either 50G or 100G. But watching a celebrity recoil away from a hug didn't make it for me. But I understand everyone is different.

I loved seeing Rita Moreno on and she was great.

Bringing Ashley Home (2011 TV Movie)
10/10
Surprisingly heart wrenching..
7 May 2018
Jennifer Morrison and A.J. Cook were just amazing in this tv movie.

Libba(A.J.) almost loses everything that is important to her trying to find her sister. It appears that Ashley does not want to be found and would be happier to live in her addiction. Unfortunately, Ashley has to deal with being bi-polar as well. Being off your medication can alter your thought process.

I have not been in situations like this but know people who are and they thought the movie was quite realistic after I asked them to watch it.

I thought Patricia Richardson was great as per usual.

What was that about?
6 February 2018
I think this is one of the lowest rating for a movie I have ever done.

I thought the first movie was done very well. The second, not so good. This one did not connect the 3 at all.

The acting was okay but the story just was not there. I felt it was comparable to Skyline (2010) where by the end of the movie, I was hoping the main characters die.

This could have been so much better. Instead I wonder what happened.

Not as bad as the ratings it has been given.
3 February 2018
Warning: Spoilers
Christine Baranski is perfect (as per usual). Susan Sarandon and Cheryl Hines were amazing in their roles. The acting of the supporting cast was great.

Christmas can be such a stressful time of the year for many people. You got a glimpse of Ruth's (Christine Baranski) upbringing which really helped to understand her behavior towards Amy. Not a fan of he Isis (Susan Sarandon) character but it helped us to see why Carla is the way she is. As for Kiki, the relationship between her and her mom (Cheryl Hines) was the least toxic or so you thought.

All in all a very funny movie. Any movie that has the legend Wanda Sykes in it, I am going to love. She makes me laugh.

This movie is a hoot!
17 October 2015
and I don't mean in a good way. Nothing has really happened 40 minutes into the movie. The CGI is so laughable.

If the movie was supposed to be about Los Angeles, then perhaps they should not show CBC Radio Vancouver on the building. They did have California license plates though.

If the buildings are supposed to be failing apart, the parts that fall off should be missing from the building.

How that one woman got out of the car when there were power lines on her car? How did that happen?

The visuals of the tsunami were used over and over again.

There is talk of wide spread damage but yet driving looks awesome.

The acting was horrible. I watched it to see how bad it could get. Definitely on the bottom 100 of any movie every made.

The DUFF (2015)

Very enjoyable rom-com
27 May 2015
Warning: Spoilers
I really enjoyed this movie. The acting by almost all parties was great. Mae Whitman and Robbie Amell had great chemistry together. The film showed what really happens nowadays with social media BOTH good and bad. People can be so nasty when it comes to embarrassing someone on social media. You can see that almost every day.

Allison Janney is also one of the best actresses around. She can do anything from comedy to drama. The addition of Ken Jeung just put the icing on the cake.

Mae's character (The Duff) was at first very upset to find out what she thought other people thought of her. Her mom was the comic relief with all of her mantras and you wondered if she really understood what her daughter was saying.

This movie is light hearted and definitely worth the watch.

The Normal Heart (2014 TV Movie)

Incredibly emotional movie
15 July 2014
Warning: Spoilers
It has been a while since I saw a movie that was so overwhelming and brilliantly acted.

For me, I thought Mark Ruffalo was awesome. Seeing that he is not a gay man, his scenes with Matt Bomer must have been difficult. But he is an Academy Award nominated actor so he pulled it off with incredible ease. He was a bit louder than I am used to hearing him and way more confrontational but it was required for this emotional role.

Others that were outstanding were: Julia Roberts (her husband is the cinematographer for this movie), Alfred Molina, the awesome Jim Parsons and Matt Bomer. The last scene in the movie had me crying and thinking.

Thanks HBO for showing this awesome movie. I guess Brad Pitt should be thanked as well :-)

The Appearing (2014)

Over the top acting (and not in a good way)
27 April 2014
Warning: Spoilers
This movie was your typical horror movie but worse. Let's start off with the actors who were chosen for this movie. Are we to accept these people are actually high school students?

Next, let's talk about the music. Music is important to a movie. At times, the music made the dialogue hard to hear.

The scene at the hospital was just strange. If someone is out of it like that, they don't haul them off to the police. I know I am over- analyzing things but sheesh don't directors want people to buy into a movie? Why was the hospital so yellowish-green?

The wife in the movie goes from having normal looking eyes to eyes that have dark circles and back again. Why would that be? As one progresses into possession, I thought you would deteriorate. Guess I have seen to many possessed people.

Horrible Remake
5 January 2014
First the acting ability of Chloe and Julianne are fine. This is a story that need to be reproduced. For me, watching this was not a joy. Not enough time spent on character development. I found the original spent more time on Carrie and her "issues". It is always difficult for a remake to live up to the original. I think the background talent was also at a higher level than this one. John Travolta, Betty Buckley, Amy Irving, Brian Depalma's wife (Nancy Allen)were head and shoulders about this troop.

So one thing that did bug me is the blood drop. It should only occur once and not 3 or 4 times which it did in this movie. It was not slow-motioned but we say it occur too many times. The additional scene from the bathroom earlier is not required. Why people need to feel the need to demean someone else is beyond me. We saw the image earlier, no need to put it out there again.

Great Ensemble
12 December 2013
People write off this movie because it stars Adam Sandler. Well, I think they are making a big mistake.

I think the cast in this movie really worked well together. Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore are magical. They have great on-screen chemistry. I have seen many of these people in other movies and television shows, so I really liked seeing Christina Pickles, Christine Taylor, Alexis Arquette, Kevin Nealon, Billy Idol, Steve Buscemi and Jon Lovitz all in one movie.

Follow your dreams and be who you are is the lesson I took away from this movie. It is a light and uplifting movie which makes you smile. Be who you are even if you are the Wedding Singer. There is nothing wrong with being a Wedding Singer!

Not your average end of the world movies
15 November 2013
When I first saw this movie advertised, I did not think much about it. The title did not draw me in. But the star Steve Carell did make me want to watch. But there are too many people in the movie that I recognize and have come to love. Rob Corddry, is an amazing actor. I enjoyed watching him on The Daily Show. While he was just a smarmy background in the movie. He plays it well.

I compare it to "Miracle Mile"(1988). This is another end of the world movies. Steve Carell is a man that can easily carry any movie. I loved all the cameos during the movie. I think Steve was amazing in this role. Even during the first 15-20 minutes, I was able to relate to him. I loved seeing real life wife Nancy in the film.

The thing that was in the back of my mind was the impending doom. I was more interested in the relationship that was growing. I think the power of Steve Carell is that you (as the viewer) can easily relate to him. There are times he comes off as a loser in films but really he controls all.

This movie is showcases the amazing talent of Steve Carell.

A family movie for all to watch
6 October 2012
Warning: Spoilers
This is one of my favourite movies of all time. It does not have any of my favourite actors in it but every time it comes on television, I watch it. I also own the movie as well.

I think the relationship with Daniel and Miranda was played quite well. Being a divorced woman, I totally understood the situation the characters were going through. I also enjoyed the dynamics of the children aspect. You could see how much the kids loved their dad.

Pierce Brosnan is simply too yummy in this movie. He is not only the best James Bond but the perfect eye candy in any movie.

There were so many elements of humour in this movie that I appreciate. Of course, what could I expect from Robin Williams? He can switch his humour on and off. He made this movie for me. His ability to make me cry from just a look in his eyes, to laugh without saying a word, and to feel the hurt he was feeling by his body language.

I recommend this movie to anyone. Not just people going through family issues.

The Possession (I) (2012)

Could have been so much more
8 September 2012
Warning: Spoilers
I would like to start off with the positives. There are a few: the acting was done well by all involved, the story and some of visuals. Anything Kyra Sedgwick is involved in is generally pretty good. Jeffrey Dean Morgan was good as the struggling dad after a divorce. However, I think the star of the movie was Natasha Calis. Reminded me of a young Linda Blair.

The story was very good and well explained so I understood what was coming up next. I also appreciated the integration of the Jewish faith into the movie as this is critical to the original story. The visuals is where I felt this movie could have shocked more. There were a number of good scenes (the one with the dentist) and the final scene. But the bumps and jumps could have been more integrated into the story earlier. It was one hour into the movie before anything exciting happened. The time was spent on character development which is good but I like a few more "scares".

There were too many unanswered questions at the end of the movie. This is why I rated it the way I did. This is not a bad movie at all. It did make you think and it did spark discussions on the way home from the theater.

The Beaver (2011)

Well acted, beautifully directed.. thought it was a comedy
1 September 2012
Warning: Spoilers
First of all, I thought this movie was a comedy when I first saw the commercials for it. Boy, was I wrong!

I read that the movie was about a man with depression but I really was not prepared for the depth of depression that Walter was going through. Depression is a horrible disease and I don't wish it on anyone. It can make you feel unworthy and extremely sad. I applaud Jody Foster for both her acting chops and the way she brought this movie together. I think the way Walter and his oldest son dealt with their issues kept the movie very honest for me. I could see the walls that they put up when they really wanted to get closer.

Mel for me proved that he can do anything. I love a good actor who makes you believe the story. The last 30 minutes of the film were hard to watch but it showed the hurt and uncertainty that one can feel. A good movie to have a discussion about after.

Life IS Beautiful
19 May 2012
This movie will always be one of my favourites. I really loved watching Roberto as Guido. You could feel how much he loved his wife and then his son. I could not imagine living through such a horrible time in our history. The love of a father for his son and wanting his son to have a childhood was mesmerizing to watch.

I should also say that I am not a fan of subtitled movies but in this movie, it did not make a difference at all. Roberto and his magic won me over within the first 10 minutes.

There are times I put this movie on for my kids (ages 15 and 14) so they can appreciate what we have here. War is atrocious.

Life is a gift, treat it as such. Life IS Beautiful.

Mamma Mia! (2008)

An awesome Movie to uplift your spirit!
27 December 2008
It is hard not to like Abba music. I was shocked to see a movie made after the successful Broadway play based on Abba's music. I was even more shocked to hear Meryl Streep was one of the title characters. She is a A list actress after all. Boy, was I surprised after watching this movie! It was great to see Meryl play such a fun loving character.

Christine Baranski can steal a scene every time she is on camera. She is one amazing actress. Julie Walters was a hoot. I am not sure I am used to hearing Pierce Brosnan sing yet. I have watched the "Dancing Queen" scene about 30 times! So, my advice, don't go looking for excellent singers. But if you want to see a fun movie, "Mamma Mia" is for you.

This movie was hilarious!
17 May 2008
Warning: Spoilers
I have never heard of it before but when I saw Andy Serkis's name in it, I knew it would be good. Was it one of the best movies I have even seen? No, but it is a great way to spend 90 minutes.

This movie was quite funny. The interaction between the two brothers was classic sibling rivalry. These guys were a bunch of losers. They can't even plan a kidnapping without arguing. Watching David trying to teach his brother to sound menacing was so funny. Hearing Peter tell the kidnapped his brother's name just about made me fall on the floor! I found this movie entertaining throughout. It had a few gory moments but they added to the story. The music certainly added to the suspense. I would definitely recommend this for a rainy afternoon.
