The Dark Knight Rises (2012)
Batman 4...please
Dear Mr Nolan,
please make a Batman 4 with Bale and Gordon-Levitt. This series is by far the best and needs to continue.
I Am Legend (2007)
Two endings!
I have watched this movie off and on over the past 11 years. Each time the ending was the same. I think after this amount of time, a spoiler is ok. Basically Anna and Ethan arrive in Vermont after Dr Neville confronts the Darkseekers.
Tonight, I watched this film again, but this time, oddly, the ending was completely different! When Neville asked Anna to 'open the door' while the darkseekers were in his lab, I thought, 'he? I don't recall this'. Not a great ending, but definitely a different one.
Chariot (2013)
Flight of confusion
I've never taken time to write a review here on something along the lines of this type of film. I will hope that my attempts do not spoil this.
An unknown 727 flight with seven passengers on board who wake at nearly the same time. We are taken on a trip at 65,000 feet with these individuals who rather quickly expose their personality types and the view can easily see how each effects the outcome.
The Secretary of Transportation, Government Contractor, IT Expert, Master's Degree Student, Language Specialist, House-wife and a Truck Driver. Interesting, diversified group. What could they have in common?
Cole, the first to wake from his drug induced sleep, becomes the leader of the passengers and the misfit as he didn't belong to the "group". I liked his character and found him to be a believable individual and a likely leader due to his even temper and levelheadedness.
Sadly the strength of the other participants, to included the remaining three individuals, are weak, but are supported by a script that seems to be lacking depth. Confrontations are cold, unfeeling, unrealistic and even seem stiff at times.
The premise is a good one and one that I enjoyed. For a 90 minute film, it did keep me watching due to the story line and I was interested to see how it played out, although I had it nearly pegged about halfway through.
I believe it ended properly. In fact, I am happy that the director and writers decided to end the film the way it did. Had this ended any other way, I think it might have ruined what was already a not-so-great movie.
A watchable film and somewhat likable flick.
Prisoners (2013)
Great movie, but as always police matters fail.
Police 101: Never enter an interview room with your duty weapon. This movie displays why.
Police 102: When a person is examined and displays the mentality of a 10 year-old, yet possess a driving license, a detective worth his weight would enquire at the license office how this came to pass. Something might be learnt which sheds light on the reality of the displayed behaviour. Something a seasoned detective would not ignore.
Other law enforcement failures, but the movie does do well otherwise.
Jackman and Gyllenhaal play very believable characters. I was quite impressed with Jackman's part. His emotions are running wild as he wants his child found. And Gyllenhaal does well feeling stymied by the system and a Captain who is more worried about perception and budget than solving crimes.
Great acting on all parts. Very enjoyable film.
2012: Doomsday (2008)
Only the Idea was a good thing.
Face facts, this was a low budget, horribly acted, bad sound, bad story line, bad everything, with the one exception - concept.
Yes, I honestly think that a higher budgeted project with some known actors, director and producer might not be a bad idea. To have a plot based upon a larger belief than ourselves, is something we all might need. But please, the movie had no sense of flow at all and some really bad acting. Every scene sounded like it was being dubbed in a sound booth. I remember near the end when the archaeologist was in the Mayan temple reading the symbols around the alter, he heard a woman screaming for help. She sounded like she was in the next room. She was outside still climbing the steps! Not only that, but the ability to drive from San Diego, CA to Chechen Itza in about four hours by car? What type of car was this really? This is at least a 48 hour non-stop car drive. But let's not forget you're driving in Mexico. They don't have freeways like we do. Oh, and the plane ride. That alone had me laughing. There are torrential tornadoes, hurricanes and earthquakes and these two guys get into a plastic flying shoe box and fight mighty tornadoes and land in about 4 hours, what would have taken a good 16 hours or more in that size plane.
Sorry, guys. You has a good chance on getting a needed message across, but you sent out a flop!
Black Dawn (2005)
Horrid
Plainly pathetic. The backdrop in some of the action scenes are so visibly unreal that it made watching this painful. At one point near the beginning a photo of a test lab Dr and a terrorist is so badly edited it looks like one of the Internet pictures with superimposed faces planted on someone else's body. I also enjoyed watching the taking of the bomb up an unknown number of floors to a roof, starting a helicopter and then flying an estimated 25 miles off shore and all in 4 minutes and 30 seconds. I hope the director had fun making this. I also have to agree with some previous writers that seeing a very over weight Seagal is sad. You never really notice his weight until the very end when he is walking away. Also the champagne lunch with the CIA agent at the end is terribly phony and acted at an uncomfortable feeling. What a terrible waste of time.
