Requiem for a Dream (2000)
Depressingly good
First of all, this was one of the most depressing movies I have ever seen. Right from the start Aronofsky introduced us to the struggle between the son, the mother and the drugs, I can draw some similarities to the movie "Basketball Diaries" where the mother had to call the police to save her son, this is something similar with the chained up TV set and that this wasn't the first time that her son is taking the TV set. I like how Aronofsky portrayed the scene that as Harry and Tyrone get closer to the pawn shop, they get happier.
One of the first addictions I saw in the movie was not Harry's or Tyrone's but the mothers addiction to unhealthy food and TV, so it was very easy for her to get hooked on pills, she could eat everything she wants and still fulfill her dream to be on television.
The scene where Harry realises that his Ma is addicted to pills left me absolutely speechless. He knows she could have a problem with addiction since he uses drugs as well, however he can't tell her since he's an addict, and wants to hide it from her.
Each of the 4 addicts had their own dreams and wishes. Ma hasn't been happy since her husband died, she's feeling alone and all she wanted was to be something so she was willing to go the extra mile to be on the television show. The scenes with paranoia within the apartment are excellent, because the thing she's most scared of is the refrigerator and that's the root of her problems to drop weight and wear the red dress. At the end it shows that two of her best friends are crying because of her misery, she mentioned that no one cares about her, without even realising how special she was to her friends.
For Tyrone it seemed like his happiness is his mother, as she said to him in his memory lane "All you have to do is love your mother and everything will be fine". In my opinion, it's something similar to Harry's Ma's problem with the death of her husband, maybe Tyrone's mother died too and he feels empty because of that and misses her.
All Harry wanted was love, happiness and a family life with Marion. He was willing to deal drugs so Marion could be independent from her parents and build a life with him, so that's why at the end he said that she'll not come since he thinks that he has disappointed her.
Marion had some great potential in fashion industry, however drugs got ahold of her and many times it showed that she wasn't as strong as Harry to stay sober, at least for a little while, that's why she sold her body. The scene at the end shows some great cinematic action, Marion just prostituted her body in a really shameful way, however she got what she wanted, as she snuggles with the package and on the left side you can see her sketches (her potential) dropped on the ground.
Absolutely great movie. 10/10 for me.
Family Guy: Disney's The Reboot (2019)
Goodness gracious
All throughout the episode I was checking my phone and got all distracted, because it was really boring and unfunny.
I turned it off 5 minutes before the end since I couldn't take it anymore.
What's happening with Family Guy???
Gisaengchung (2019)
It was everything!
The movie was excellent. It covered all the genres that you can think about, starting from comedy, ending with horror and if that's not all, add a naughty scene in there as well.
While watching, my emotions changed along with the movie, at first I showed a lot of sympathy for the family, then I started to hate them a little bit because of their "parasite" mentality, then again I wasn't happy with the Parks since they were looking down on the poor.
Another thing I really enjoyed about the end is that it was shown from two sides - from the rich and poor perspective. For the poor the big rain was devastating, however the rich enjoyed it since they can have have such a nice weather for the birthday party.
Brilliant movie!
The IT Crowd: The Work Outing (2007)
Hilarious
For now, my favorite one!! and by a wide margin.
The humour was great, I completely lost it when Roy was introduced back in to meet the cast.
Speaking of Roy, with every episode I watch, I'm starting to like Chris O'Dowd's character the most, especially in this episode, he was just excellent.
The Lighthouse (2019)
Astonishing
Firstly, big kudos to Robert Pattison & Willem Dafoe, their acting was really great.
Secondly, even bigger kudos to Robert Eggers and his way to come up with something so chilling and mind-twisting.
I love the feeling when after the movie ends, I still have this big question "what just happened", but in a nice and adventurous way.
Can't wait for the next Robert Eggers movie!
The IT Crowd: The Red Door (2006)
Weird guy
OMG the vampire guy was so weird, he gave me the creeps.
For now, the less favorite episode from the first season.
Black Monday: 365 (2019)
Mixed feelings
I have a mixed feeling about the pilot episode. Everything seemed very chaotic at first.
However, it was only the pilot and I kinda liked it by the end, so I'll give it an another shot, next Monday, of course.
Trespass (1992)
Weirdly entertaining
At first the movie felt kinda weird because of all the things that happened at the start. First 30 minutes were horrible and I started to be angry with myself for this kind of movie choice.
However, as the movie went on, it got a lot more entertaining and had some nice unpredictable plot twists.
Not the greatest action movie out there, but worth giving a try.
p.s. Ice - T's acting was pretty bad.
The Notebook (2004)
😭
This movie just hits different!
Absolutely beautiful, however a little too predictable, but still.. phenomenal!
Charlie Wilson's War (2007)
Propagandish
Don't get me wrong, what the USA (Charlie Wilson) did was great, however, I got this propaganda vibe while watching.
Philip Seymour Hoffman (RIP) and Tom Hanks were amazing.
Julia Roberts accent was kinda weird at some times, she tried to do the Texas one, but I wouldn't say that I liked how she performed it. Other than that, her performance was nice.
