Akilla's Escape (2020)
VERY good & smart film!
Watched this film at the Tribute to Charles Officer during the Toronto Black Film Festival this weekend.
The acting was fantastic. The use of specific images, angles and symbolism was extremely well done. Very moving.
I am not sure why it has such a low average rating unless people were expecting typical a typical gangster style film. Please know that there is plenty of violence but it isn't gratuitous. It is intelligent and the film portrays good guys & bad guys as smart, street-smart people who live a certain lifestyle that most of us do not understand nor are we exposed to during our own day-to-day lives.
I also really enjoyed the glimpse into the Jamaicn culture.
I highly recommend this film.
After Everything (2023)
MUCH better than the rating suggests...
Off the top, Hardin's "woe" and the angst between he and his parents didn't work for me. BUT... Any other criticisms I might have, are well compensated by the beautiful scenery and the performances overall.
In today's world there is a fine line between passion and stalking. I am happy they did not make any unhealthy or foolish references to the such.
The typical "drinking too much" as an expression of sorrow was a bit cliché BUT clichés work so... I do wish they were more creative with that aspect. Added nothing to the credibility of the story.
To convince audiences of Hardin's irresistibility, a decision was made to cast a young hot, diverse publisher and her friend willing to blur work/personal relationship lines. This works because "hotness" and sex sells. Great business decision, not an accurate portrayal.
Mimi Keene as Natalie, was also a vehicle to drive home the irresistibility of the male lead. As we can see by Mimi's rise in IMDb Rating, Ms Keene's career will benefit the most from this film and she will become a mega star.
I enjoyed the ending of the film. Brought the whole love story together.
Daisy Jones & The Six (2023)
LoVVVed this series!
I thoroughly loved this series from start to finish. As a viewer I loved the characters. Very real performances by the actors. A good mix of comedy thanks to Sebastian Chacon. As an actor, I would have given my left arm to play the role of Billy Dunne. Excellent work Sam Claflin.
The leading ladies were fantastic and they were all extremely charismatic and sexy in their own way. Thanks for making me feel like a teenage boy again Riley Keough, Camila Morrone and Suki Waterhouse.
I see that it did not resonate with some viewers and that can be expected for any show. However, if you are someone who has ever fantasized about being a rockstar, I strongly believe you will enjoy this series. I will eventually re-watch this series.
My sincere congratulations to everyone involved!
Thanks for the ride.
21 Thunder (2017)
Sex ~ Drugs ~ Soccer - Watch this show!!!
Like "Friday Night Lights"... but set in the world of professional soccer.
To the fans of 21 Thunder, I want to say that this is a very good show. I have worked on several series and I can honestly say that this one special. Give it shot.
.. as "Coach Mike Shields" - I love playing this role. A childhood dream of mine was to be a professional soccer player. That never quite happened BUT portraying professional soccer Coach Mike Shields in this series is almost as thrilling.
Thank you to all fans for watching as well as to the producers, directors, casting directors, cast & crew for making this such an amazing experience for me.
Much Love & Respect ~ Randy
