The Ghosts of Borley Rectory (2021)
Wow! I enjoy some low budget films but this was just awful
The idea behind this film is good. In honesty, I cannot say if it fulfills the idea because I couldn't watch more than the first half hour due to the most diabolic acting I've ever witnessed! A GCSE drama group could stage a more convincing set of characters with ease compared to what is presented in this film - wooden acting, strange stereotyping accents, and some of the most bizarre enunciation which would not be out of place in a primary school Nativity play. It's actually too bad to even be funny. Don't think I've ever given a 1 rating before!
Killer Wave (2007)
Has potential
It's a B movie. Watch it expecting that and not a Hollywood blockbuster and this is perfectly watchable. My only real gripe is that the female least who in a deputy lead scientist over seeing a multimillion dollar scientific research institute is played by a 23 year old - the actress isn't bad herself, but it looks like a child is in charge and it makes the inevitable love interest with the male lead (in his 40s) feel extra cringe worthy. The story itself is okay.
Jeruzalem (2015)
COULD have been a decent film
The premise is good and and plot is not badly executed, but the main character whose point of view we see most things is one of the most pathetic, annoying, irrational pains in the ass of a person ever written. I soon wanted her to die horribly just so she'd stop!
Bones: The Master in the Slop (2014)
Good story, stupid after plot ending
The actual who-dunnit part of the episode was good. The ending was pure mysoginistic crud. Shame on the writers!
Bones: The Spark in the Park (2013)
Such poignant portrayal of grief
One of my only real gripes with Bones is the ease with which the relatives and friends of the victims receive the news of the death. Not in this episode. The quiet, controlled way that grief is shown in this episode is heartbreaking and the final scene is one of the most moving of the entire series.
Bones: The Ghost in the Machine (2012)
Verbalising the thoughts many have about death
This is a really interesting episode. Many of the negative reviews clearly don't understand the medium of TV. You have the various characters talking to the remains of a teenage victim, but they're really verbalising their inner thoughts (TV don't work so well if you can't hear what people are thinking!). It's the only time we really see things from the victims point of view, but we also get a real insight to the inner turmoil the work of investigating murder has on the various main characters. Really very nicely done.
