The Walking Dead: Wrath (2018)
better than the season, but that's not saying much
The idea that after all this, negan is kept alive, well, it's an insulting joke. i kept waiting to see negan crack a smile while laying in bed.
all i can think is that most of the lead actors must be whimpering "please kill me". maybe they can salvage their careers from the cementing type-cast of grungy zombie killers.
just phone in those parts while collecting the big paycheques. they're not going to last.
if the series didn't return next year, i wouldn't be the least bit surprised. everyone seems done.
The Walking Dead: The Big Scary U (2017)
let's move this along
As episodes go, this was one of the best this season, but that isn't saying much. It's too late to save this particular story-line. It's been stretched so far and Negan has proved so annoying that all anyone wants is for him to be dead and for us to move on, to ANYTHING.
Can the entire series be salvaged? MEthinks the shark has already been jumped, but maybe by some miracle, we can resurrect this zombie series, about zombies.
At this point, and with the characters so scattered, do we even care what happens to them? I'd like to, but this series has become so diluted I'm having a hard time deciding who - if anyone - I would actually miss.
Load up our favourites, get the heck outta dodge. Entirely new location. New challenges and fresh ideas are a must to keep this on the rails.
The Walking Dead: The Other Side (2017)
slow and slower
the producers of TWD know they are coming to an end. that's how this is rolling out. i have never been put through such a long tease for any series. EVER. they just keep stringing viewers along, with the anticipation of the inevitable war.
in my crystal ball, i see viewership drop by 20% after this extended cliffhanger season ends. and if they dare to set up another cliffhanger to drag us to next season, that percent will be more.
i get it. there are characters. there is suspense. but there is also taking advantage of one's audience by dragging out this story-line. preying upon TWD's dedicated and frustrated audience is running out of gas.
The Walking Dead: Service (2016)
Slow burn tension
Is this what the season is going to be? I don't mean to be an instant gratification kind of guy, but this glacially paced, slow burn of tension is beginning to get on my nerves. I am beginning to feel like a masochist waiting and waiting, for a glimmer of light. I feel like my chain is being yanked with this spiral further and further down into darkness.
Maybe I am getting old or maybe I have seen it before, but there comes a time when - for the sake of one's psyche - we let go of this fictional darkness. I mean, there's plenty of darkness in the real world. What made TWD great is the survival in such a malevolent world. The writers are breaking the characters to the point of no return. Even if they survive Negan, all we could expect any normal people to do on the other end, is mourn and mourn some more.
Yeah sure there will eventually be a satisfying revenge payoff as with the governor or the cannibals. But how much sadness, depression, and pain do we need to be dragged through to get there?
8/10 for the quality of the production, acting. 5/10 for emotionally manipulating viewers, who are tethered with commitment to the show, but don't appreciate the route.
Ghostbusters (2016)
I really wanted to like this movie.
I really wanted to like this movie. The idea of four female ghost busters is okay by me, BUT... the movie still needed some male characters beyond the Chris Hemsworth who portrayed an annoying twit. Kate McKinnon was the happy surprise. Kristen Wiig was weak and does Leslie Jones know how to deliver lines without always SHOUTING?! (illustrating that a skit comedian does not an actor make). Amazing ghosts and some cool action. BUT... I've never seen a movie try so hard and put so much effort into setting up the next movie. Ghostbusters made me laugh; made me jump, made me look at my watch and didn't make me excited for the next installment.
Zombie Massacre 2: Reich of the Dead (2015)
Bor-r-r-r-r-ring
The first 30 minutes nothing happened. It was a very long wait until we saw our first zombie. Then crying zombies. Then shooting shooting shooting. Then blood trails. But no shortage of gore. I just wish the characters were remotely interesting or at least had some decent dialogue.
I've heard of writers being paid by the word, but this is the first time i truly believe someone was being paid by the minute.
It wasn't until almost 70 minutes into the movie that anything actually began to happen, but by then, few would care... and in comes the clichéd nazi scientist who couldn't deliver a line to save his life. But let's top it all off with dream sequences that serve no purpose.
"My time is precious" says the crazy nazi scientist. Based on the seemingly endless monologue, he seems to have all the time in the world.
