Chariles Angles in WWII save the day...
5 October 2008
If this movie were a "10" as a few reviewers have rated it then it would be in a theather near you right now. But that wont happen. Its not that good.

And a shame it is too because there is some real talent and great production values apparent in this film but it falls flat on storyline and plot.

Some one went to a great deal of time and effort and expense to make this film but the final product leaves you with the feeling you just watched a "fair" made for TV Drmna.

Its not a perfect movie but will probably entertain a small audience.

Has the look and feel of a made for TV drama
6 May 2007
First the positive The movie opens like a real thriller, with some good action shots with a pace and score that that will keep you on the edge of your seat.

The cast all do a good job with their roles, the dialog and story line are credible for the most part. The score moves along well with the scenes.

On the down side the overall look and feel of this movie puts it squarely in the made for TV drama category. There are no real surprises. The action is quickly toned down to family prime viewing level and the drama level increases proportionately.

This, IMO, is not a bad movie but it doesn't offer the kind of entertainment value you would expect from a big screen film. It will do well on TV on both sides of the pond.

Bloodlines (2005 TV Movie)

Emma Pierson holds this one together
17 January 2007
Emma Pierson is a virtual unknown here in the US, which is unfortunate. She, along with the rest of the cast did a credible job, and the story line was plausible, as far as made for TV dramas go.

But...Bloodlines had some of the worst directing and camera work i've ever seen. The jerk blurry camera work really was distracting; it ruined all the good efforts that went into making this film.

I am always on the look out for good Brit film work, we don't see nearly enough of it here in the US. Unfortunately this one was off the mark.

I look forward to seeing Emma Pierson in better films.

One of Fred Zinnemann finest

bribery, scandal, political thugs, and treachery, all wrapped around the new lord chancellor of the realm.

the plot is as follows...

"Sir Thomas More's refusal to swear to the Acts of Supremacy and Succession fell under the Act of Treason. His refusal to swear was seen "as an act of malice against the king." More was taken to the Tower of London on April 17, 1534, and his trial took place on July 1, 1535.

Sir Richard Riche claimed that he heard More say that the act of supremacy was a 'double-edged sword.' "To accept it means to save the body and kill the soul, while to reject it is to kill the body and save the soul." In response to this accusation, More stated "In truth, Mr. Riche, I am more sorry for your perjury than for my peril." More's son-in-law, William Roper, stated that More "asked the people to bear witness that he should 'no there suffer death in and for the faith of the Holy Catholic Church.'"

More's original sentence was to be hanged, then drawn and quartered. But because of his status, his sentence was elevated to beheading. On July 6, 1535, More was led to the block to be executed. His daughter, Margaret, said goodbye to him for the last time, but he was too tearful to respond. As he was placing his head on the block, he muttered the now-famous saying "Wait till I put my beard aside, for that hath done no treason." After he had situated his beard, he was executed.

Sir Thomas More is considered a martyr because he died for God instead of Denouncing him by swearing to the Acts of Supremacy and Succession. In 1935, Pope Pius the XI declared him to be a saint. More is called the Patron of Statesmen."

this is a cinematic masterpiece.

Bound for Obscurity
22 September 2006
this movie is not for everyone, but judging from the reviews submitted here at IMDb it has obviously attracted a cult following. by collecting more than 14,000 votes and thus garnering a 7.+ rating, i thought Bound might be a hidden gem.

the combination of slick visuals and the dynamics of the lesbian relationship are obviously responsible for a lions share of the votes. and i agree the Wachowski bros did reasonably well on their first major big screen project. but i don't feel the plot was anything extraordinary. the love triangle/renege combo has been done many times by any number of writers so there was nothing new there.

there was sufficient on-screen chemistry between Gershon and Tilly but it didn't carry beyond the sexual attraction of the two characters. and after a while the soft, low, growl of Tillys voice got on my nerves.

as the male lead Joe Pantoliano really pulled his weight in this film. his frequent small screen roles tend to pigeon hole him as a TV character type. but, alas, he wont be remembered for for his role here because this film is...Bound for Obscurity

End Game (2006)

a real stinker
10 September 2006
i guess its possible that I've seen worse movies, but this one is a real stinker! the plot is unremarkable but thats not the worst of it. the directing is no where close to what you would expect from andy ching. he's capable of good work but failed to pull this movie together.

angie harmon, playing the female lead as a reporter dogging into who's behind the assassination of the president, truly butchered the role. there was no chemistry with gooding, her demeanor was flat and wooden, and the 5 inch spike heels she wore throughout the movie were absurd. this outing for harmon places her solidly at the bottom of the "b" list.

and what was cuba gooding thinking??? he has to his credit a number of outstanding performances, but this was far beneath what we've come to expect from him.

poor james woods and burt reynolds. poor poor poor poor poor.
