Boiler Room (2000)
Nice little movie...
There is nothing wrong in this movie. So why I only gave 7 out of 10. Because it just nice little movie. Nothing more or less. Surprisingly I noted that Ben Affleck was good in this one. Usually he's quite horrible. Or maybe it just because Ben had quite small role on this :). It was also nice to see that Vin Diesel can actually do something in the field of ACTING. Kind of a same mood in this film like e.g. in Poolhall Junkies even though the subjects differ a lot. If I had to describe this movie with one line it would be 'Beware what you want, because you might get it'. Okay, maybe this movie deals the concept of greed quite superficially but hey the world is quite superficial. This movie has a good entertainment value so all you little Wall Street recruits, I have only one thing to say: Watch this one, It wont do you harm.
Apocalypse Now (1979)
Just don't understand
Well, I know that this is one of the all time classics but still... HEY HAVEN'T YOU PEOPLE SEEN THAT THIS IS A BIT TOO LONG. Especially if you happen to watch the Redux version like I did, you're going to need a lot of patience with the ending. The first half I think is alright, a proper war movie if I may say, but in the ending it is all starting to go crazy. I don't understand what's the point of watching Sheen wondering around jungle or talking some nonsense with Brando something like hour and a half in the ending. It just pure torture. Has to be thankful that my DVD player allows me to watch these kind of ending with double or even quadruple speed. Couple classic scenes and characters and nothing else. And there is better +three-hour movies out there than this one (like each one in LOTR -series).
From Hell (2001)
Johnny Depp is always good...
Once again Johnny Depp provides us an solid performance. It's hard to not to like the films he has made. This film is a dark one, much like another Depp movie Sleepy Hollow. In my opinion movie was a bit too hard to follow even though the plot itself isn't very complicated. Robbie Coltrane also succeeds to be in good shape in this one. But in general the stage is set for Depp and other performances tend go just in a side. The visual presentation of this movie is also interesting and exciting, although being quite dark, as said. But if you have seen a lot of movies like I, this one really doesn't offer anything new. The ones who liked Sleepy Hollow or The Ninth Gate will probably like this also. I liked both, but because I had seen them before watching this I was quite ready what to expect. But if you want spent an hour and a half with visually great Johnny Depp movie then this one to choose from many good ones. This movie is straight from hell... :)
