A strong movie about a brave boy and the gaming community
10 March 2024
This movie should be mandatory for everyone to watch. Period. Especially parents who have children who spend a lot of time gaming. I thought I knew the story that I first read in a newspaper a number of years ago. But no, you think you know the story - until you see the movie. What a wonderful person Mats Steen was! Too bad he was so strict with himself when he was so generous with others.

This is the first time I've experienced such a quiet movie theater. Everybody was quiet and remained seated when the credits rolled across the screen at the end. No one even put on their jacket. Now I know what to do if, due to age (or other things), feel isolated from the the real world. Then I think I'm going to be a gamer in The World of Warcraft.

The Motive (2020–2021)
1/10
Waste of time
12 February 2024
Warning: Spoilers
The series is called «The motiv». But we never get to know what the motiv was. It only implies that the boy might have been molested, and/or that his father was «Jekyll & Hyde» and had a really bad temperatur at home.

Still, that' not a motiv to kill your whole family. It's disgusting and unethical «journalism» - the victims can't tell their story. They're all dead.

And the killer's defensivt attorney is quite a charchter. People like him is the reason many people hate lawyers.

It wouldn't surpise me if he suggested «the motiv» for the boy/killer, although the killer is way smarter than his lawyer.

This was a bad documentary from Netflix. Really dissapointed.

The best Christmas movie I've seen in a while!
6 December 2023
Tou can tell that this movie is based on a true story! It's really liberating. Almost without any clichés, even though we know how it's going to end. The story is warm, funny and get you in really feelgood Christmas spirit.

Great cast! As a Norwegian myself, I recognized every single (sometimes ridiculous) tradition, the stress around the holiday and the pressure that everything is going perfect (whatever that is). This was very realistic.

I highly recommend it to everyone, no matter what Xmas means to you, or if you don't celebrate Christmas at all.

Enjoy yourself and have a very Merry Christmas!

A heartfelt series from Norway everybody can relate to
19 December 2022
I loved this series! Great script and outstanding performances by the actors. The carachters are so relateable. One message is that Christmas spirit is different for alle of us. We should stop what we're doing once in a while and acknowledge that we have no clue what other people are going through.

This series brings out every feeling you've got! Tears, laughter and manu touching moments.

There are too many series/movies about Christmas out there. Most of them are garbage compared to this one. Read the subtitles, it's not the same with dubbing. I'm Norwegian so I'm probably not objective, but I see other reviews are as positive as mine.

Waaaaaaay too long
12 February 2022
I gave up after episode 4. I was waiting for something to happen, but it never did. The story is highly unlikely and Julia Garner was not right for the character «Anna».

It helps to have some idea of what the conflict really is about.
2 June 2021
I suspect that people giving this film a bad review either don't have any knowledge of what the conflict is about, or don't like the portayal of «their» people. It's politics!

I'm from Oslo and I remember this agreement very well. Great acting and a believable portrayal of the process. No Hollywood drama.

I miss the part on how the Americans was informed of the agreement and their reaction. I guess it was ok for the Americans as long as Peres, Rabin and Arafat was giving speeches and shook hands in front of Bill Clinton at The White House - as if the Americans had anything to do with it.

At the end of the movie, it could also inform the viewers that Peres, Rabin and Arafat shared the Nobel Peace Prize in 1994. Holst, the Minister of foreign affairs in Norway was also ment to be a recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize, but he died in January of 1994 due to a stroke. His wife said that all the stress of this process caused the stroke.

As real as it gets.

Touching, sad, moving and funny. Great acting! This is as real as it gets. A reminder that Thatcher handled this awful disease as bad as Reagan. Disastrous! It's still January, but this series got to be THE one to watch in 2021.

Boring.
15 January 2021
I gave up after the third episode. Nothing happened. Far from Sense & Sensibility or Downton Abbey. I give them some credit for the costumes and I guess the acting is ok.

Boring.

This was so boring. Even Streep could not save this movie. Cliche after cliche. The songs are terrible and they all sound the same. Moving on.

Emotional.

Well played! Great performances by the actors. Luckily we've come far from 1968 when it comes to LGBT rights and how we see gay people and how they see themselves. Or have we? It's a funny movie, but first and foremost It's sad and it makes you think.

Soooo Eurovision!
26 June 2020
This was so stupid that it was good. I laughed. Guess it's not funny if you're not familiar with Eurovision Song Contest. I am. I'm from Norway - Zero points😁 Loved Graham Norton with his usual sarcastic comments!

Wow! I have to see this again.

Joaquin Poenix's performance is out of this world. Great to see his interaction with Robert De Niro too. If you're going to see one movie this year, this is it!

Highly recommended
4 January 2019
I enjoyed every single episode! Great acting, great story and a mix between fiction and facts. The personal stories of the characters are obviously fiction, but the story about finding oil and Norway becoming an «oil Nation» with help from the Americans is true. I really don't believe that you have to be Norwegian to enjoy «Lykkeland». I'm looking forward to season 2!

A masterpiece!
30 December 2018
This film really is a masterpiece! It reminds me of how cruel people can be to one another and how strong the will to survive under terrible circumstances really is. It's also a reminder of how lucky I am to live in a democracy (Norway).
