What the Hell?
20 January 2006
This is the most absurd science fiction movie i have ever seen. You could call Star Trek scientifically realistic compared to this. I'm not going into the details but just the idea to build a ship within three months which travels inside the planets core should be enough to have a picture. Minor stuff like windows breaking immediately when birds hit them adds to this appraisal.

unrelated to that, the movie is just plain boring. anything that happens after the first 15 minutes can be guessed by frequent scifi-audience. no surprises, few action, plain boring. my suggestion: skip it if you have a chance.

Not a Comedy
30 October 2005
It seems that most people commenting this movie see it as a comedy. I have to admit, when I first saw it (about ten years ago), My friends and I had the same impression. However, after revisiting the picture, I don't think as it as a comedy at all. And I don't actually believe, the creators intended it to be a comedy, either.

True, quite some dialogs and scenes are humorous (mostly black, naturally) but that is not the nature of the film. Instead, I agree with the commentators who stated that it is about the viewer itself: While many people laugh at the blatant humor, the movie constantly asks the viewer what actually is funny. In the end, there is not much comedy left (not more than in Dramas with witty dialogs that are sometimes humorous).

This Movie messes with the viewers brain in a very subtle way. It's a very interesting piece of work and the best (uhm, yes, and only) Belgian movie that I know of. Those, who can cope with outrageous violence shown without censorship and appreciate independent movies definitely should watch this. Those who are seeking a comedy definitely should avoid this -- it is none.

Best Sci-Fi Series
22 July 2005
This is the most outstanding plot I have ever seen in a TV series. The mix of history and science fiction develops excellently, especially the "real" persons like Robert Kennedy, Jack Ruby, Carl Sagan, etc. are introduced subtle and nicely and give the series an extra twist. In my opinion the deepness of the plot tops series like X-Files, Millennium or Outer Limits by far. Charismatic and convincing characters are an extra plus, especially J.T. Walsh as Captian Frank Bach is an excellent cast for the Majestic Commander -- I couldn't imagine any other acting better. Too bad there was only one season, the story sure left enough possibilities for a second or even third season.
