Hotel Transylvania: Transformania (2022)
Petty cash grab.
Uninventive and contrived plot with some creative, expressive animation here and there and decent voice acting. Well deserved 2 stars. Enough effort to sell toys I guess.
Castle Falls (2021)
Cheap garbage
80% of the movie is sluggish mess of terrible camera work, primitive dialogue, bare bones stereotype story and very bad acting. Don't expect much action either. Beside a little scuffle at the beginning the first clash starts half way through the movie. There are few ok fights thanks to Scott Adkins but even those are far cry from his best work. Movie looks like it was shot, edited and colored with a phone and script was thought out on a spot. Essentially this is one of those films you can usually find on youtube since even right holders don't care about them.
Hanna (2019)
From great to terrible
The first season is pretty good. Feels like it was poject with a decent intent behind it. Loved to see main leads from "The Killing" coming back together again. However starting from season two it becomes terribly written, badly acted, low effort teenage TV drama. With moronic decisions, confusing ideas and very little action. Also Hanna is a support character now. Because we need to see how bunch of new girls that we know nothing about talk about their everyday life and make connections. Terrible 180 to season one and massive drop in quality.
Black Friday (2021)
I'm glad that Bruce Campbell got his check.
Too bad it's for the role in this garbage. Well.. at least it's gonna be a good jokes material for his future Q&A sessions and event appearances. Which are famous for his self-roasts and reflections on his career as a B movie star.
The Wheel of Time (2021)
Much worse than I imagined :(
The characters! Most of the characters are dull stereotypes, but some just straight annyoing. Dialogues are very basic: no originality, humor, or mystery. Imagine the most boring situational response for the character and a second later he would say it. Some of interactions between main heroes feel so much like a second rate teenage drama. Cinematography is on par with any cheep fantasy series from the early 2000s. Nothing special. Strangely, matte paintings in this show (digital backgrounds used for the wide fantasy landscape shots) somehow look worse than the ones that were made for LOTR almost two decades ago! Also special mention deserve magic effects. Those reminded me a magic bending from amazing Avatar adaptation from Mr. M. Night Shyamalan. Magic seems to be essential element here but it is so cheap looking, sluggish, slow and unexciting. Usually it goes like that: a mage makes million passes with his hands, then some smoke appears and a minute later few smal bricks fly at his opponents. So good!
Cowboy Bebop (2021)
Crappy adaptation but it looks like they tried
Production values and action are not bad and Spike actor is doing an ok job. Opening is a cool homage to the source material. Same goes to music score. Directly from the original. It's great that more people would get a chance to apreciate amazing music made by "Seatbelts" and Yoko Kanno. Thats pretty much all pros from my point of view. On the other hand, writing is subpar at best, most of the lead characters are cartboard copies of themselves but support cast is even worse. Same goes to acting. Story is shallow and contrived. Feels like kids show with some pretentious subplot drama. Fights are goofy and cartoonish with some blood splatter on top. General tone is very gullible and stakes in the story never feel high. Overall, you'll have a better time with the original animation but if you're a big a fan already, this adaptation would probably make you sad. With lowered expectations it's a passable watch though.
Dune (2021)
The Lord of the Rings of sci-fi arrived
Grand epic of caliber that very few movies achieved before. Amazing adaptation and true love letter to the Dune universe. Must see not only for a Dune fan but for any sci-fi enthusiast out there.
Y: The Last Man (2021)
Boring and uninventive.
Pilot episode is promising but then it turns to a boring take on every show about world ending virus you've seen. Without the fun parts.
Malignant (2021)
Passable but not that scary.
Subpar horror made from little pieces stolen from other horror media. Since this genre is not very eventful recently it may scratch your itch but thats it.
Escape Room: Tournament of Champions (2021)
The first movie was passable but this one is pure rubbish.
Strong, brave, clever and quick on the foot females and useless, messy and whiny males. Probably pushing feminist agenda took so much effort they forgot to write a decent script. Or make a decent movie. But hey! They covered the quotas so it must be worth something for someone.
The Green Knight (2021)
Big budget student project that all it is
Two stars for cinematography and acting. Other than that its rather pretentios and shallow study of the character whom director didn't care to connect to the audience.
Taking inspiration from a popular and fascinating folk tale The Green Knight manages to be tiring journey packed with convoluted messages.
Sweet Girl (2021)
Boring uninventive garbage
If it was a dvd release this movie would find itself glued to the bottom of basket with discount dvds for eternity.
Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus (2017)
A step back comparing to previous game
The positives: bad ass story, great acting and music, dual wielded weapons still feel amazing.
Negatives: bad level design, bare bones stealth mechanics which game constantly pushes you to use, AI is lazy and unfair.
To survive any decent difficulty you have to be constantly on the move but absence of auto pickup makes you stop every time you need to stop and pixel hunt for pickup icon to get any ammo, armor or health.
Aiming is quite rubbish. Many levels have terrible flow, most of the time every NPC will gang up on you in the first two rooms and then you run around empty rooms.
The Paper Tigers (2020)
Not great not terrible.
Cheap everyday movie with uninspired plot and few OK fights sprinkled here and
P. S. What's with all these superpositive reviews? 10/10, 9/10 common, guys!
Way Down (2021)
Boring and uninspired
Silly story with banal plot, unlikable characters and subpar action. Seen it hundred times in other movies. Most of the time done better than here. Don't waste your time with this trash.
The Last of Us: Part II (2020)
You either LOVE it or LOATHE it. Strong emotions is a mark of quality.
Played original game and sequel back to back. An emotional rollercoaster nothing I experienced ever before. Gameplay is fluent and much improved from the original title. Animations, sound, voice actiong and design is out of this world.
The story itself was so dark and affective It really beat me up emotionally. I understand a people who would find that as negative. But I hardly can say this about any game I played before and it stayed with me long time after the final credits.
I think it's a magnificent sequel with some flaws in a storytelling that I gladly overlook because overall experience was so great!
The Watch (2020)
A terrible take not only on Discworld universe but on detective genre in general.
BBC Watch is badly acted, boring detective story, with banal but somehow convoluted plot, cheap jokes which we've seen done better million times before, extremely obvious agenda and unlikable characters.
Finally, the worst thing about 'The Watch" - it's extremely boring show. I barely managed to push through two episodes. Production values are not bad but entertaiment value is ZERO.
