Insidious: The Red Door (2023)
These movies make me angry, not scared
Is your idea of a scary movie something that's filled with non-sequitir jump scares? Then the Insidious series might be for you. Half an hour into this hack garbage, I was reminded why Insidious 2 made me so mad. Using the characters' hallucinations as the basis of the horror might be the cheapest gimmick in the genre. Lots of movies use this premise, but the lazy writers of Insidious win the gold, silver AND bronze medals for it-was-just-my-imagination-and-none-of-it-was-real storytelling. Seriously. Nothing is off limits when it comes to the random places a spooky face might appear. Turning the page of a magazine, looking for the prize in a box of cereal, checking your underwear for skidmarks--these are just a few examples of places the writers of Insidious might decide to insert a creepy image. If you want jump scares, you're better off asking a friend to hide pages torn from Fangoria magazine all around your house than expecting any of these dumb movies to make any sense.

I tried
After seeing promos for months, I was really looking forward to this. I didn't understand if it was going to be a sitcom or a drama until I watched the first episode, then realized what the writers were doing. The concept is original, but the execution falls flat. I don't really care for any of the characters (nothing against the actors; everyone seems well cast) and the pacing seems very slow. After 2-3 episodes, I wanted Allison to either divorce or kill him and be done with it. Maybe I should have given it a few more episodes, but I've already lost interest.
