The Runaways (2010)
6/10
The Runaways- A very well directed, well written film.
19 June 2010
Warning: Spoilers
I'm a big fan of Joan Jett and her hit singles Bad Reputation and I love Rock n Roll. I do have to admit I had no idea that she was in a band called the runaways early on on in her career. When I first began researching the origin of the group I became fascinated who the idea of a big screen movie based of the band's story.

The Runaways got my attention because it was about one of the first all girl rock band's assembled. Dakota Fanning plays the band's lead singer, Dakota is always good but I have to say that in this film she was overshadowed by actress Kristen Stewart who plays Joan Jett. When I heard that Kristen Stewart would be playing Joan I was very disappointed, we have to admit that she's not one of best new actresses we have, but in this film she definitely proved me wrong.

Overall, Runaways is a good film with a little bit of The Doors mixed in with a teen movie all rolled into one.

The A-Team (2010)
8/10
Forget Karate Kid and Iron Man 2, This movie tops them all !!
19 June 2010
Warning: Spoilers
I've been tracking the progress of this movie ever since it was announced as a possible project in the late 90's. When the studio signed on director Joe Carahan, the man who created the action films Narc and Smoking Aces I knew that the film would be superior in quality especially with the Scott Brothers producing.

The film starts off as an origin story with Hannibal and Face in the middle of a mission in Mexico when they bump into another ex-army ranger B.A. Baracus. After the introduction they find Murdock and the film begins with a bang. A-Team has a very interesting plot that rivals the Mission:Impossible films, in fact this film is what the Mission:Impossible franchise should have been like.

Liam Nesson and Bradley Cooper do an excellent job as the two leads. Rampage Jackson and Sharpo Copely as B.A. and Capt. Murdock are also great actors who go scene for scene with Nesson and Cooper. The films supporting cast is rounded out by Jessica Biel and Patrick Wilson who keep the story line going as agents pursuing the four guys.

Overall, A-Team is a non-stop action packed thrilled ride with explosions and plot twists that blows Iron Man 2 and any other movie this year out of the water.

Watch it, you wont be disappointed.

Tell Tale (2009)
6/10
Great take on an Edgar Allen Poe story
25 May 2010
Warning: Spoilers
I have to admit when I first heard about this film I was very skeptical, seeing as Edgar Allen Poe's story was one of my favorites growing up. Tell Tale takes the original Poe idea and successfully expands on it, giving it a modern day twist.

The film follows a man who has recently received a heart transplant from a person who was brutally murdered for their organs. The story's main character soon begins an investigation that challenges his very sanity.

Josh Lucas as the lead does an excellent job. Lucas who has a background of starring in indie horror films like Session 9, delivers yet again with a solid performance the viewer can identify with.

Tell Tale does have some weaknesses like most indie horror films do, mainly do to budget restrictions but its a decent effort.

Overall, Tell Tale is worth watching.

Dark Country (2009)
7/10
Great idea, good film.
25 May 2010
Warning: Spoilers
I've read the other comments about this film and many people just didn't get it. I do admit this film is not for everyone, which is probably why it was made as an indie film rather than a main stream picture.

Dark Country was a very well directed and well acted film. Now saying that, I do have to say it would have done better as a twilight zone episode or an episode of The Outer Limits. The film's star Thomas Jane does a great job acting and I don't know if many people know this but he also directed the movie. Seeing that Dark Country was his first directing gig I have to say I think he has great potential to be an excellent director. Not many people can make a film this interesting on their first time out.

Some people are comparing Dark Country to a David Lynch film, that's ridicules. Lynch movies rarely have a coherent story line you can follow, Dark Country does.

Overall, Dark Country may be a little strange but if you're a person who likes challenging mysteries, you'll really enjoy this.

Train (I) (2008)

Train- Not Very Original yet still entertaining
25 May 2010
Warning: Spoilers
This film is strictly for people who are fans of bloody slasher films like Hostel and Texas Chainsaw Massacre.

Train's plot revolves around a group of teenagers who take a train ride and start to get systematically taken out for their body parts.

The movie does have many elements that it seems to have taken from Hostel and Turistas, both films are very much the same, yet are far superior in quality to Train. The only thing that keeps you watching is to see someone get brutally murdered. Like I said before you have to be a fan of slasher films, if you're not, this film is not for you.

Thora Birch takes the lead as the film's heroine and does a decent job of it. As far as talent goes she is probably the best actress in the film.

Overall, Train is a mildly entertaining horror film that gives you a few thrills here and there.

24- One of the Best Shows in recent history concludes..
25 May 2010
Warning: Spoilers
24 was a very unique series, it had a perfect mix of action and mystery that kept us watching every week. Very few shows were able to do what this series did. One basic story line was presented at the beginning of each season, but due to great writing and acting we never really knew how it would end.

The greatest thing about 24 was that it was like watching one hour installments each week, of a well crafted movie studio quality action film, that can be compared to The Bourne Franchise and any Tom Clancy novel.

The greatest thing about this last season was how raw it was. It had many shocking moments I did not see coming, most notably President Hassan's brutal execution. Another great element was Jack Bauer's rampage of bloody justice. It was great seeing him take out the bad guys, it was reminiscent of a 1970's action film kind of like Death Wish. The scene when he storms President Logan's limo was probably the greatest sequence in the show's recent history.

I have to admit that the last season did have some very predictable twists, like the Dana Walsh story line. But given that, the show was on it's eighth season and I do understand that after all that time it would be hard to come up with something that hadn't already been done on the show.

Overall, the 24 series finale was so much more satisfying then the Lost series finale, which I have to say was very disappointing. At least with 24 we got to see the show end on a good note.

The best thing about this show being over is that now we get to see Jack Bauer on the big screen, a full feature length film is in the works.

Lost: The End: Part 1 (2010)
Season 6, Episode 17
Lost-The End- the worst series finale ever
24 May 2010
Warning: Spoilers
First off I have to say I'm a big fan of the show. When I saw the pilot six years ago I was instantly sucked in, and every Tuesday since than I've watched the show. Lost is probably the most well written, well directed and well acted show in television history.

As far as the entire sixth season and the finale goes I was extremely disappointed. First off nothing was answered. I do understand that it wasn't possible to give us all the answers, but they honestly didn't give us any, at all. The only thing the audience was given was the answer to the flash sideways presented in season six, which I've said already was the weakest season in the show's history. Even the story line concerning the character Jacob was weak. The writers had so much potential to finish the show the right way and they decided to go the fast easy route and call it artistic, which in my opinion is ridicules.

Now I've read the other comments on this page, and I have to say that no REAL Lost fan in their right mind would give this finale a good review, there's no way. The show's writers should have been thinking more about the fans that made the show a hit than just finishing the show because they had to.

Overall, I truly feel cheated for investing so much in a show that never paid off.

Owen Wilson and Kate Hudson Team up for a hit comedy
14 July 2006
You,Me and Dupree is a hilarious comedy that lives up to "40 year old Virgin" and "Wedding Crashers". While the film's plot feels like a wacky 80's movie, it manages to keep you interested and entertained. Owen Wilson scores another his with this movie.

Owen Wilson is amazing as Randy Dupree, yet the supporting cast led by Kate Hudson and Matt Dillon manage to give this comedy a smart sharp edge. Kate Hudson still manages to pull a few laughs while Michael Douglas as her strict father puts a classic spin on the picture. Overall this film is worth every penny and will keep you laughing from start to finish.

Another Successful Mission For Tom Cruise
5 May 2006
After waiting years for the third installment of the Mission:Impossible franchise, it has finally come. Since the last film, Tom Cruise has had several hits at the box office. But after getting bad publicity about his love life and his aggressive way of promoting Scientology, many people didn't think M:I3 could live up to the hype. But with a great script and brilliant direction from J.J. Abrams, Cruise has once again proved that he's Hollywood's most untouchable celebrity.

Mission: Impossible 3 is a well put together action thriller that rivals the first two films. The Film shows Ethan Hunt as more of a regular person who's put in a tough spot, instead of a cockey secret agent.

Overall M:I3 is a well directed action thriller that is worth watching over and over again.

Saw (2004)

One of the best thriller's of all time
2 February 2006
When this movie first appeared in theaters 2 years ago it was dismissed as nothing more than your average slasher flick. But as people started watching they realized it was much more. Rookie director James Wan manages to tell a story that not only keeps your attention but has you hanging on every word the characters say.

With a small budget and a cast of second rate actors "Saw" managed to bring in a surprising $55 Million at the box office. The film starts with two complete strangers waking up in a filthy room together. They soon must figure out who put them there and why. The film takes you on a roller-coaster ride from start to finish.

Overall, "Saw" can be ranked up there with thrillers like "Physco" and "Seven".

Walk the Line (2005)

Good, but not great!
20 November 2005
It's a known fact that director James Mangold makes great movies. With "Cop Land" he set a new standard for cop films and with "Identity" he blew us away. Now he takes on the life of one of musics most influential icons, Johhny Cash.

First off Mangold cast moody actor Joaquin Phoenix as Cash. Phoenix's performance as Cash is so convincing, you think you're watching the real Johnny Cash. As for Reese Witherspoon, she took on the role of June Carter the longtime love interest of Johnny Cash. Reese is so incredible in this movie, especially as she trades one liners back and forth with Joaquin.

The only flaw in the movie is the plot, that's been done so many times in movies. Instead of showing a unique look into the wild life of the famed singer, director James Mangold instead has made a movie about fame and drug addiction. By ignoring actual events that happened in Cash's life, this movie just comes out looking like another watered down studio flick.

One of the best spy films around
23 October 2005
This story has been done several times in the past, most recently in "A Long Kiss Goodnight". It's also true that Doug Liman and the producers created their own Jason Bourne mythology, since this movie is different in many ways to the book. But the truth is Liman takes an old story and puts a new fast paced spin on it.

Matt Damon stars as the enigmatic assassin who just wants to figure out who he is. As he travels from city to city he's followed by CIA agents who want to dispose of him to save their own jobs. He's helped along the way by Marie played by the brilliant Franka Potente. Together they come face to face with the people that want them dead.

The cast is great and so is the story. This film should be on everyone's top ten list.

Not at all a rip off but instead a good movie that echoes "When Harry Met Sally"
23 October 2005
It is true that the way this movie was shot it did seem similar to the Billy Crstal and Meg Ryan romantic comedy. But everyone forgets that Hollywood rips everything off all the time. This film manages to keep the watcher interested and makes you feel for it's characters.

Ashton Kutcher is usually very unwatchable, but in this picture he helps create a shy and ambitious lead in Oliver Martin. Oliver is a dreamer who puts all his energy in creating a internet company to sell diapers. Then there's the always animated Amanda Peet as Emily. Emily from early on tries to push Oliver to explore life. Ashton and Amanda make a great team on camera and also have great chemistry when it comes to the more emotional parts of the movie.

Overall "A Lot Like Love" is a great romantic comedy with real heart and is really worth watching.

The most powerful film yet from director Ridley Scott
21 October 2005
In the past many movies have touched us so deeply that we give them the name classic. "Kingdom Of Heaven" is one of those movies. With it's epic story and mind numbing battle sequences Ridley Scott has once again created a picture that makes us care for the characters all the way to the end.

The story begins with a young widowed blacksmith named Balian, as his long lost father finds him. His father Lord Godfrey offers him a chance to start over and travel with him back to his home in the holy land. There Balian hopes to be washed away of his sins, but on the way Godfrey is mortally wounded and passes on his title onto Balian. Balian travels to the Holy land and begins an epic journey to save his soul and the people he's come to love.

This film not only has an amazing story but a great cast like Liam Nesson, Jeremy Irons, Marton Csokas and Orlando Bloom. This is the kind of movie that will make you want to see it in the Theatre then go to your local store and buy it on DVD.

Elizabethtown (2005)

Cameron Crowe loses focus in Elizabethtown
21 October 2005
First off most people can say that Cameron Crowe does have a knack for making films that capture that basic human emotion of every day life. In "Jerry Maguire" he made a sleazy sports agent more human and in "Almost Famous" he made us care about a band who has lost their way.In his latest movie "Elizabethtown" he takes us back to a more simple story about mourning and starting over.

Crowe cast Orlando Bloom in the role of Drew Baylor, a young man who reached early success only to see it all vanish. He than travels to his father's birth place of Elizabethtown were he recently died of a heart attack to bring him back home. Then there's Kirsten Dunst as the sometimes annoying love interest of Claire Lolburn. Dunst gives a very uneven performance as she tries to guide Orlando's character through his mission of self discovery.

Overall the story loses focus half way in, giving us the impression that Cameron Crowe might have been under the influence while directing this picture.

Red Eye (2005)

A Surprisingly Good Thriller from Wes Craven
17 October 2005
Director Wes Craven has made a name for himself with movies like the "Scream Trilogy". But he's also had a few bad pictures the most recent being the horrible werewolf thriller "Cursed". But this time Craven managed to create a straight suspense movie that not only keeps the audience's attention but also makes you cheer for the films heroine Lisa Reisert.

"Red Eye" does have a recycled plot and a small budget but the chemistry between actors Rachel McAdams and Cillian Murphy keeps you wanting more until the very end. Cillian made his character Jackson Rippner a memorable villain, the same way he made The Scarecrow in "Batman Begins" a worthy bone chilling adversary.

Overall, "Red Eye" is a mediocre thriller that is made watchable by the incredible acting abilities of it's two main stars.

Waiting... (I) (2005)

Instant Cult Classic
17 October 2005
In many ways this movie can be compared to another successful cult comedy by the name of "Office Space". Both films are about what really happens in a stressful working environment. While "Office Space" and "Waiting" do share similar plots, first time director Rob McKittrick seems to have more of a flare for slacker comedy than Mike Judge.

What also makes this comedy stand out is the great casting and colorful characters. The always funny Ryan Reynolds leads the crew of misfits including Anna Faris, Justin Long and the incredibly hilarious Luiz Guzman. This movie can get a tad immature at times, but those who love movies like "The 40-Year Old Virgin" and "Harold and Kumar Go to White Castle" will absolutely worship this picture.

Had great potential
8 August 2005
When this movie first entered production it seemed like it was well on it's way to be another comedic classic like "The Wedding Crashers". With the director of "Super Troopers" in charge and with Johnny Knoxville and Sean William Scott cast as the cousins, this film was almost guaranteed to be a smash hit. But the films slow direction and lack of humor made it just another failed attempt to cash in on a successful TV show. The plot was recycled and the acting was second rate.

The only thing in this movie that kept your attention was a half nude Jessica Simpson using her sexuality to get the Dukes out of trouble. Overall this film seemed so rushed that it seems the director forgot he was making a comedy.

The Jacket (2005)

Top notch story telling
4 August 2005
In "The Jacket" a lone drifter named Jack Satrks who has gotten discharged from the military after the gulf war helps a mother and daughter with their car trouble. The plot then takes a fast jump to Starks in a mental institution for the criminally insane. During a cruel experiment conducted by the Doctors in the facility he's forced to wear a straight jacket and is locked into a closet. He soon begins to fight to distinguish between the real world and the world in which his mind has created for him.

Adrien Brody gives a fantastic performance as a tortured war vet who just wants to find happiness. Brody manages to keep the audience wanting more all the way to the end. Kiera Knightly and Jennifer Jason Leigh use their great acting abilities to smooth the story along and make this movie a must see.

The Machinist (2004)

A mind bending thriller
4 August 2005
The Machinist fist gained popularity from the record setting weight loss that lead actor Christian Bale under went to film this movie. Bale looks like a talking zombie and because of that it gives his performance a more twisted edge.

In this twisted story Trevor Reznik is a machinist whose physical appearance and attitude begin to concern his co-workers. When a mysterious southern man begins to appear everywhere in Trevor's life it sets off a chain of events that causes him to question his sanity.

Bale transforms himself into Trevor so brilliantly that you forget it's him just playing a role. Jennifer Jason Leigh helps the story along as a prostitute named Stevie and is a good equal to Bale's intense presence on screen.

A bad movie with a few laughs
3 August 2005
This film was so bad it was funny. Tommy Lee Jones gives a hit and miss performance as a cop assigned to protect a group of cheerleaders who have witnessed a murder. The story relies heavily on Jones's character for comic relief while his attractive female co-stars make you wanna just watch them with the mute button on. Cedric The Entertainer fits in well as a former con turned preacher who's become Jone's trusted informant.

Where this movie lacks in story it makes up for in a few scattered laughs. Then again this film still manages to annoy you so much that you feel like fast forwarding it to the end.

Batman (1989)
8/10
A awesome movie and instant Classic
3 August 2005
When this movie came out in 1989 it not only surprised people with it's dark vision of a modern super hero but it also rocked the box office. Before this film came out, the only Batman people could name was Adam West's campy 1960's TV show. But when rookie director Tim Burton took on the task of bringing the dark knight to the screen, his version forever changed the way people viewed the iconic vigilante.

First off Burton cast friend Michael Keaton as his hero and already legendary actor Jack Nicholson as the villain. While fans loved the choice of Nicholson as the Joker they had mixed feelings about Keaton. But Keaton gave such a strong performance that it made the audience over look the fact that he did not physically resemble Batman from the comics. Then Kim Basinger was signed on as Bruce Wayne's love interest. Basinger gives such a mediocre performance that sometimes you try to forget she's in the movie. But that does little to hurt the movies great story and awesome action scenes.

Tim Burton's "Batman" is still one the best comic book movies ever made and will forever be regarded as an amazing action adventure masterpiece.

Stealth (2005)
3/10
A lame action movie
3 August 2005
With a talented cast of actors like Jamie Foxx and Josh Lucas, "Stealth seemed like it would be one of the year's biggest hits. But in the end it just comes looking like a cheap 1980's SCFI flick.

Director Rob Cohen made this picture fresh off of his success with "The Fast and the Furious" and "XXX". Cohen was so desperate to follow up with another hit that he made this movie about a renegade robot jet that goes against the government. This film not only echos all three Terminator movies but also has a hint of Top Gun. As far as the acting goes, Jamie Foxx stole the show and out acted Josh Lucas who's supposed to be the lead in the movie. Jessica Biel has enormous sex appeal and great acting skills but doesn't get to fully preform here.

Overall "Stealth" is a bad action movie with a great cast.

A fun action movie with great chemistry
24 July 2005
Director Doug Liman, who's gotten famous for making fun movies like "Swingers" and "Go" has successfully blended together action and comedy. In "MR.and Mrs.Smith" Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt star as John and Jane Smith a mild mannered couple with dark secrets. But while on a routine mission the two discover they're both assassins working for two competing Agencies. The film them becomes a fast paced chase movie filled with high octane action scenes and rapid fire comedy one liners.

But then there's the plot that kind of disappears with the explosions and fight scenes. The story seems rushed and flawed with a hint of a typical spy movie. When it comes down to it the only reason to really see this movie is to see Jolie and Pitt share the silver screen.

A disappointing film from the team that you Minority Report
24 July 2005
Spielberg said this film is based on the H.G. Wells novel, but it just comes out looking like a cheap sequel to Independence Day. While the script was changed to take place in modern times it took away the raw chemistry of the book. As far as casting goes, Tom Cruise gives his regular pretty boy saves the world performance.

Besides the silly special affects and the strained script, the best part of this SCFI blockbuster is Dakota Fanning. Fanning who's only 11 years old upstages the great Tom Cruise with little trouble. But with this in mind, Spielberg still manages to keep the audience's attention like he's always managed to do. Overall "War of the Worlds" may top $200 million, but that still doesn't make it an instant classic.
