Nope (2022)
Wasted potential or perhaps there was none to begin with?
You can always dig for some underlying, deep meaning in all this. I prefer to call it as I see it. Not worth the hype...
The CGI regarding the entity was really great, its final form a visual treat, a trully original design. Wish they gave more glimpses into the transformation process.
Thats all. No other resource was utilised in a way that would make sense, into forming a story that would have meaning when the end titles rolled.
In the end I was even sad to watch what appeared to be an otherwise magnificent and probably unique creature qo out with a simple poof.
Wasted potential or perhaps there was none to begin with.
The Midwich Cuckoos (2022)
A solid 8 after finishing Season1 - have not read the book yet
I don't write reviews, I usually just rate a film/series. Still, after actually going through the entire 7 episode series, despite the extremely low ratings and negative reviews and expecting nothing in return, I was pleasantly surprised with powerfull scenes and solid acting.
There are certain week points in the sequence of events, where you expect the plot to unravel and follow a different course but these very points provide excellent contrast between rigid alien logic and human fallibility. They also represent a very possible outcome should these two ever blend into something in between.
All in all it was a very enjoyable experience and totally undeserving of all the directed hate. Perhaps when I read the book, I may find the tv adaptation lacking, as is the case with almost anything that attempts to force a single visible outline out of a writers imagination.
I strongly urge you to view this as a standalone production and judge for yourselves.
Sahara (2017)
Proved better than ratings suggest!
Found this animation by accident and decided to do a little background check on IMDb. Ratings were pretty low but as with most animated films that come to my attention I decided to give it a try and find out by my self.
What I discovered was a classic lower class boy loves and rescues high class girl story, injected with some anti-racist and anti-drug messages, even a subtle but apparent criticism on current political events. Overall I'd go for entertaining with some interesting pointers and blame the low ratings mostly on lack of proper advertisement (practically none... ).
On a final note, those of you inclined to poke the truth out of a pile of words, do take a closer look at those really negative comments and the country they're originating from. Sad to see people prefer walls over peaceful coexistence...
