Shouldn't have had Cole murder Henri
22 July 2023
Warning: Spoilers
12 Monkeys(2015-2018) TV show is based on the 1995 film of the same name starring Bruce Willis, Madeleine Stowe and Brad Pitt. I was so excited about this show - the writing the acting, etc. I loved Amanda Schull from Suits, and. Emily Hampshire from Schitt's Creek. I was like yay another show I can serial watch until 1 am! Then comes episode 4, the writers have Cole save an innocent black man's life and then decide to murder him in cold blood. It's interesting how many liberal, modern shows easily beat up or kill off black characters. Was he deciding his fate for him because he knows best? I'm done.

Timeless (2016–2018)
10/10
Brilliantly Written
1 July 2023
I don't review that many TV shows and movies because first of all people would hate me because most of my rating and reviews would be complaints. There are really only 8 TV series I've been able to watch through to the end (and I've watched these series again and again): Burn Notice, Medium, Chuck, Friends, Fringe, The Office, Frasier, and Charmed.

And now Timeless. It's just written so brilliantly and they've covered every base, meaning plant and payoff. Now on top of that, it was so satisfying time-travelwise because it's not just time traveling to characters' personal pasts or futures... you get to enjoy being in the worlds of world history, famous events that many people are familiar with.

The acting is great and they all really know how to play humor (although this is a drama) during moments, and so I've cracked up laughing out loud, which is just a visceral reaction to the actors' natural comedic timing.

Lastly I want to say that I only discovered this series in 2023. As I was binge watching (while often also working out on my rowing machine or in between editing to make myself rationalize that I'm being productive at the same time) I eventually realized this show was only 27 episodes long. I was disappointed, but the writers did such a phenomenal job ending the series before it was canceled, that the series feels like an intentionally-crafted limited series.

Having said that, can we gather a group of demanding fans to maneuver the cast, the writers and this show back into running?

Not Dead Yet (2023– )
10/10
Strong Writing + Strong Acting, 10 Stars for its Genre
7 May 2023
If you liked Drop Dead Diva (before the mother gets a shot in her g spot aka it jumped the shark), you will also like Not Dead Yet. Yes because they both deal with supernatural topics, but mostly because they're both done in a very lighthearted shallow tone. And I mean shallow in only the best sense of the word. There's nothing dark or frightening here. The writing is a little better than Diva because in NDY, every once in a while, the humor within a line and the actors' deliveries take me by surprise and I literally laugh out loud. I also liked the meet-cute with Nell's roommate Edward, realizing he will become her love interest. Gina Rodriguez, Hannah Simone (from New Girl), Lauren Ash, Rick Glassman, and Josh Banday, Maile Flanagan and Jimmy Belinger are all on. Point. With strong acting, the tone of this genre, and in-the-moment comedic choices. The actors. Angela Elayne Gibbs and Martin Mull are more part of the poignant c story older couple transcendent romance and are masters of their craft. I hope there's a Season 2!

Season 1 is great!
10 February 2023
Warning: Spoilers
We became obsessed with this show because of the magic of karma. Karma was like another character. Jason Lee of course was great. Jaime Pressly is a genius performer, she's like the Lucille Ball of our time in talent. But we stopped watching sometime during Season 2 for two reasons: because they got rid of Karma and that was the most fun. I also had a difficult time watching the characters Randy and Catalina. After the first several episodes of the series, Randy went from being dumb to being mentally three years old. I felt like the writers gave them amazing lines but they just weren't being delivered well. Although she's breathtakingly gorgeous, I felt Catalina was also miscast. In my own little fantasy world, I would have cast Jason Segel and Sofia Vergara.

Amanda Bynes is a comic genius
1 January 2023
Almost all child actors have problems because of the crazy lifestyle of working as an adult with adults, so it's good that she's retreated to finding a normal life away from Hollywood. But in addition to Shirley Temple, Bynes has been my favorite young actor.

Amanda Bynes is a comic genius. She plays everything moment by moment. If you listen to the script, you can imagine how the majority of actors would say the line. What she does with each line is deliciously funny and original. All of the other actors are great, too. The writing is well thought out, cute the way they incorporating Shakespearean names into this modern homage to Twelfth Night.

An Actually-Good Christmas Romance Movie, Thank you!
25 November 2022
I love the idea of Christmas Romance movies but they're so hard to get through because almost all of them are poorly written, cast and/or directed.

So today on Thanksgiving, I finished one because I visually love the Christmasy country-y decor, started another but just couldn't get past the first five minutes...

Then I clicked on and started watching Love Hard... the lead was good, the sardonic best friend really good actress for a small role in a movie of this genre, writing so far good, ... and then Josh enters and it's Jimmy O. Yang whose stand up I've watched. You had me at Jimmy O. Yang.

The writing just keeps getting better. Turns out, Yang is great at both comedic and dramatic acting. The rest of the supporting cast including Josh's brother and other family members and friends, all so good.

And the directing, editing and music choices are great.

Made me laugh and cry. If you're going to watch 1 Christmas romance movie, this is it.

Not a Safe Environment
22 November 2022
Warning: Spoilers
It's difficult to watch some parts, especially Zay who is treated poorly by both women. I truly hope he leaves alone so that he could find somebody with better communication skills who doesn't talk over him and then accuse him of yelling at them.

It was disappointing that when one of them did it yet again during the finale, that neither host defended him.

The most disappointing part of the show was that for a cliffhanger for one episode, the producers chose to use Jae's off-screen voice of "get off me" while showing the doorway of Zay's and her bedroom, falsely insinuating that the large black male participant on the show was raping her.

Then Rae punches Zay. They don't show it on camera but she mentions it a few times in a scene, and yet physical assault isn't even mentioned by the hosts in the last episode. (When it happened, did the production crew rush in?) If the genders had been reversed, would it have been addressed? What if a woman had punched a white man?

The most admirable decision goes to Jake, who despite pressure and manipulation from his ex on both him and his family, was the only participant to risk leave something dysfunctional.

Sometimes we need distance from others' influence in order to make good decisions. It was difficult to watch both his girlfriend and his mother tell this grown-ass man who spent five years in the military to "stop fiddling", or his step-father lecture that there is no such thing as financial stability.

In general, the people who gave the ultimatums had more reactive relationship skills. They could learn a lot from watching Dr. John Gottman videos.

Good work for this kind of reality show
10 November 2022
Warning: Spoilers
I found the whole process interesting, and the participants brave for making themselves vulnerable. I also liked that the producers didn't throw wrenches in to create unnecessary drama, but really had the participants' wellbeing at heart. It didn't go unnoticed that out of all the gorgeous women, - they were all beautiful - the irony that the two prettiest were saddled with narcissistic men who compared them to two of the other women they "preferred" physically. They reminded me of excerpts from the book Men Who Can't Love. I came in in the middle of the season and when a friend explained that Nancy was the one being told she wasn't physically attractive enough, I was like... but she's the prettiest of the bunch! But I felt that Cole wasn't a narcissist, just young and needs more time to mature before finding a bride and learning about what relationships skills to have what relationship skills to look for and avoid in a mate. He became very articulate when he expressed to his fiance what her skills were lacking so he's on the right path. I felt relieved that both of those couples didn't go through with the wedding ironically for the sakes of the two who were rejected. But it was a lovely process when the communication was great to witness the miracle of the couple who found each other.

The writers wanted the audience to feel pain
27 September 2022
Warning: Spoilers
I've been watching these episodes non-stop. I felt like ick that they were going to have Shaun not give up on a woman who's been playing him and reeling him in but literally said she's not into him because he's autistic.

But getting through this episode, I realized they were possibly actually going to kill off Melendez. So I stopped watching to do a Google search to find out why. The answer? The writers wanted the audience to lose somebody that they would feel pain about. Yup, felt bad. They accomplished hurting the audience. I'm not even going to finish the episode. It cured my binge watching.

My Husband and I Love This Show, but...
18 June 2022
Warning: Spoilers
My husband doesn't like reality shows because when Survivor came out, he thought it was going to be a cool show how people help each other survive in the wilderness. Lol Reality shows are usually cut-throat.

But when i asked him to try this baking show, he was happily surprised at the kindness and generosity of the show. The whole thing is set up amazingly. Two judges, two comics to help keep the contestants cheered up, it's so lovely.

The only thing I get angry about sometimes is that the best baker doesn't always win. Steph, Brendan, Jurgen. (Tonight we just finished the semi-finals of Season 12, having watched some every day, and now I have no desire to watch the finale).

A 9 Year Story About Settling
3 April 2022
Warning: Spoilers
In the TV series Friends (spoilers), the creators were originally planning on putting Monica and Joey together, but they followed the actors' chemistry, and instead wrote Monica and Chandler as a couple.

In How I Met... although Robin starts out with Ted, the actors playing Barney and Robin had such chemistry that the writers orchestrated what is arguably the most romantic couple coming together and marrying in SitCom history.

Only to end the series mentioning that in the future they had divorced.

This sitcom would have been fulfilling if they hadn't been so reckless with their own characters.

The Last Episode of the Series!
2 April 2022
If you've watched the whole series before, you'll know that the best way to re-watch this is to stop after this episode. The End! Beautiful!

If you've never watched this series before, trust me. After this episode, stop.

I had been watching the original Dexter over during the week while waiting for the next episode of new Dexter. But after watching this finale I just cancelled showtime altogether. My review of the finale episode: Basically we all fell in love with a monster. The End.

Almost Perfect
10 January 2022
Warning: Spoilers
The writing was great, casting was perfect. (Not crazy about Audrey being so polished, it would have been nice to see political-activist, guitar-playing girl as a natural beauty rather than with a full face of makeup and styled hair, but the actress was good.)

There are only a handful of TV shows I've watched through to the end and then rewatched (Burn Notice, Chuck, Friends, Medium, Fringe, The Office, Dexter) because if the writing goes downhill, I stop.

Dexter New Blood is one of them. The set design's amazing, the acting is amazing. Jack Alcott often steals the show.

I used to call the days of the week Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, etc. But since this series started, I call them Dexter, 6 days to Dexter, 5 days to Dexter, etc. So excited every week, anticipating the next episode.

But then Episode 10 happened. I'm not going to tell you what happens, but I will tell you the way it should have happened (Which may lead you to guessing what didn't happen.):

Dexter is placed in jail. Angela finds Kurt's wax museum. She is so freaked out and distracted with state troopers, CSI, coroners and the FBI (and Angel Batista) entering town to help her in handling this, that eventually one way or the other, Dexter gets a pass and Matt's death is blamed on Kurt.

It goes without saying that Dexter continues his code of not murdering innocent people that he's adhered to for 50 years. He and Harrison stay in Iron Lake, and every once in a while they go for trips to NYC, and places in New England to hunt down serial killers.

Thanks for ruining my favorite show with a sucky finale
10 January 2022
I would have given this show 10 stars. I would have watched season after season. But then I watched Episode 10. If you haven't seen it, don't bother. Just imagine it ends at Episode 9.

11 August 2021
I gave this 7 out of 10. Perfect script, amazing actors, directors, stunts, etc. The role of Prudy was so miscast. You have to really listen to the writing to understand how much fun this meet cute should have been. But the relationship makes no sense. If they had been able to cast Carol Burnett, Julie Andrews, Audrey Hepburn, or Judy Garland, perfection!

Ginostra (2002)

We Love This Movie So Much
17 January 2021
There are some really, really bad movies out there. The writing and directing is really bad but the movie is usually also depressing or disturbing and not fun. Ginostra is the exception. This movie is so bad. The actors aren't bad but you get the feeling that the director directed them in a way which makes them all seem way over-the-top melodramatic. But the best thing is the horrible writing and the plot. We watch this movie about once a year or once every couple of years so that it doesn't lose it's freshness and we laugh a lot. I don't want to reveal any spoilers because it's more enjoyable to find out just how bad the storyline and the dialogue is as you go. It's almost 2 and a half hours long but watch it when you have time to watch it in one sitting. Highly recommended to watch with other people who appreciate the filmmaking process. Even the editing is funny. PS. There are two versions out there; the last time we watched, it was a longer version which made a little more sense.

I was so angry when this movie came out because
29 October 2020
Ralph Fiennes wasn't on the list of nominees for Best Actor for the SAG Awards and I therefore couldn't vote for him. At the time my party and I had just screened another nominee movie that sucked the soul out of our bodies. We finally shut it off and tried The Grand Budapest Hotel. It was like opening a large hardcover beautifully illustrated picture story book and jumping into that world. Ralph Fiennes was unrecognizable as M. Gustave. His mannerisms, inflections, and stylized acting carried this movie and this wonderfully witty movie, a breath of fresh air, revived our souls and through to the end, we were elated.

Scenes are Missing would've given this 10
21 September 2020
This is one of my favorite movies, but I'm reviewing this particular version. Disappointing that my favorite scene is missing, when Mathilda tells Leon how old she is. Also there is more missing (including a scene where some boys approach Mathilda when she goes to the rooftop of the building) and so the movie doesn't flow like it does in the first version I've seen (the "International cut"?).

A Perfect Little Movie
10 March 2020
This is one of those perfect underrated movies that comes along to warm your soul. Sally Field doesn't get the reviews she deserves possibly because of Hollywood bias against older women (Her directorial debut of BEAUTIFUL was criticized relentlessly, although it was also a perfect gem, and I hope she directs another.)

The writing, directing, set design, costumes, casting and acting are all sublime. Max Greenfield has you at hello, and soon enough we all fall in love with Doris as well. Her outfits were perfectly eccentric and charming.
