Everest (2015)
Just disappointing
I watched this movie going in thinking that I was going to see a heroic and nail-biting story about some climbers making it back down the highest mountain in the world during a storm. Now, I might have had high expectations, but that doesn't excuse how bad the story of this movie was. Now, I realize that it is a true story, but I don't understand why they made it a movie. Rob, (a character) for example. The whole movie was building him up, seeing his relationship with his wife, the other climbers, and the mountain. You think, "This guy will lead everyone to safety!". They even show him instructing the other climbers, which, from the start, usually tells you that they know what they are doing. But, some of the last scenes he is in, shows him running out of oxygen, barely able to talk. Then they let him talk to his wife to help motivate him. They talk for a bit, say they love each other, then they stop. He then dies. Its not a heroic death either, not trying to disrespect him, may he rest in peace, but from a storytelling point of view its just so sudden. Why get you emotionally attached to this character if they die without much of a fight? They didn't make it seems like he was going to die, he seemed OK. Multiple others die as well, such as a guy, Doug I think, who planted a flag for elementary school kids, to help motivate them to follow their dreams, he died by falling off the edge, presumably so rob wouldn't have to risk his life to come back for him. He was OK, we learned his motives, got somewhat attached, then felt sad for his death. And the whole story as a whole is bad. They climb up, have problems, make it, then climb down. Like 4 people died on the way down, and then it ends. I had no idea who was who on the way down, with the masks, and the snow, it was just hard to tell. This make me wonder, "Wait, who just died? Wait did that one guys make it?" Overall, it's a pretty nice movie, but with a bad plot. Visuals are AMAZING, tensions are high, and it took risks. But the plot was boring. You only get attached to a couple characters, and it reached climax, falling action, but no resolution.
Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens (2015)
A nice addition to the series
It really felt like star wars, not just a random sequel. The special effects, the characters, overall it was nostalgic. Sure it has its flaws, (similar plot to last movies, slightly rushed, etc) but the pros out way the cons. I got a good idea of what was going on, understood the characters, and enjoyed the movie as a whole. And honestly, you could poke fun at the original trilogy just as much as this one. JJ Abrams clearly know what he is doing, and I hope he makes this a trilogy. My main problem is how kylo ren was revealed, and I wish there was more of a buildup, but, if you like to enjoy a movie for its cinematography, special effects, and writing, then I would recommend this movie to you.
Turkles (2011)
Bad movie, good laughs
The lighting, the acting, the writing, everything about this movie is bad. Too many thing to pick fun of to post here. If you like cheesy, cliché, movies, then go ahead. And don't get me started on it's preachy theme. Basically, some guys want to steal turtle eggs, to eat or something like that, (SEA turtles. Do people even eat their eggs?) And they dig them up, the 13 year olds come in, catch the bad guys, (my favorite was Mr. comic relief, AKA, the dumb one) and get... scholarships. For saving turtles. I did see it a while ago, but I remember that it was something ridiculous like that. Although, it is one of those "good bad movies" meaning that it's fun to laugh at. And, whenever we see a bad movie, my family always compares it to turkles, so, in a way, one could say that it is memorable.
