Mank (2020)
SUPER BORING TALKATHON
THIS IS WHY VIEWERSHIP OF MOVIES IS DOWN AND SINKING RAPIDLY. THE ACADEMY AWARDS WILL SOON BE IN THE SINGLE DIGITS IF FILMS THAT ARE THIS BORING KEEP GETTING NOMINATING AND WINNING BEST PICTURE HONORS. I AM OVER EIGHTY YEARS OLD AND LOVE THE "FLICKERS", ESPECIALLY THE BLACK AND WHITE MASTERPIECES LIKE SUNSET BOULEVARD, HIGH NOON, WHITE HEAT, ETC. "MANK" DOESN'T RANK AS FAR AS I'M CONCERNED. EVEN AT MY AGE I STILL ENJOY GOING TO THE MOVIES BUT NOW I FIND MYSELF VISITING NETFLIX, PRIME VIDEO, HULU AND OTHER TV CHANNELS IN ORDER TO WATCH GOOD FILMS. PRESENT-DAY FARE AT MOVIE HOUSES ARE OVERPRICED JUNK, FOR THE MOST PART. YOU KNOW, I MISS WATCHING THE OSCARS ON TV BUT NOW I FEEL THAT IT IS JUST A WASTE OF FOUR OR FIVE HOURS OF MY TIME."MANK" FOR BEST PICTURE OF 2020? WHY NOT? SEEMS APPROPRIATE.
Phantom Thread (2017)
BORING
Daniel-Day Lewis is, without doubt, the best actor of his generation. His movies are almost all excellent simply because of he is in them. This one, however, is not one of them. It, truly, is a real bore. Pure art-house junk. I hope that he doesn't retire on this snoozer.
Legionnaire's Trail (2020)
How can a film about the Roman Legions be so bad?
So bad that I thought it was an Italian movie, not Spanish. Watching grass grow is more exciting!
After Life (2019)
Ricky Gervais is great, as usual!
Just finished watching season one in a single sitting. Couldn't stop until it was over. It's now 4:30 am. I'm sleepy but fully rewarded. Thanks Ricky! I enjoyed every single minute, Looking forward to seasons two and three.
Roar of the Dragon (1932)
Liked it!
I liked it. I thought that it was a pretty decent B-movie for its time. I have one question that maybe someone can answer, though. I thought that I heard "I'll Never Smile Again" playing throughout the soundtrack but, while looking it up, saw that that song wasn't written until 1940. Am I mistaken?
Barbarossa (2009)
How do you say "Turkey" in italian?
PRO: Good subject-matter, halfway-decent battle scenes.
CON: Bad directing, worst acting , weird musical score, unintentionally comical in
spots--In other words, a
typical Italian movie. You know, I've watched hundreds of movies from all
over the world and it's my opinion that the three countries that make the
worst films are France, India and Italy. Barbarossa does nothing to change
my mind.
Fifty Shades of Grey (2015)
Gawd awful!!!
I believe that this film(?)was written by a radical liberal feminist, produced by radical liberal feminists, directed by a radical liberal feminist and enjoyed by radical liberal feminist. About as painful as watching an old black and white Gene Autry western from the 1930s. Poorly casted, poorly directed, poorly acted all with a terrible soundtrack. I'm a movie fanatic and will watch just about anything and, granted, I've seen worst movies but this is right up there with some that I've seen in the past five years. I find myself seeking out more and more foreign films (except for the French and the Italians) and am getting much more enjoyment from many of them as opposed to the left-wing clap-trap that Hollywood is turning out these days.
