The Black Phone (2021)
So much better than I expected
For thriller/suspense fans, this will be a treat. I was invested in the characters & actually surprised by how things came together. For the horror/gore clan there may be some disappointment, but it wasn't needed. I didn't realize until after that Stephen Kings's son wrote the short story it is based on! Definitely has the 70s/80s vibe without trying too hard. The child actors are fantastic - this is one you need to really pay attention to whilst watching or it may not make sense for you. Don't be tempted into looking at a synopsis ahead of time (I do this too often) - you won't regret it!!!!!
Spirited (2022)
I can't be the only one!!!!!!!!!!!
FIRST - if A Christmas Carol and The Greatest Showman had a baby???? THAT CHILD HAS ARRIVED!
SECOND - Ryan Reynolds can sing???? How can he be more perfect?
THIRD - Love the spirit and heart in this movie! It's loosely based on a classic story with so much relevant content, I was actually surprised! This one is going to be quoted for years to come. No spoilers here- I am literally typing to meet the requirents of the review to say the one thing that really matters about this flick- it IS the love child of Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman? THAT CHILD HAS ARRIVED! I hope you enjoy it as much as we did!
Run Sweetheart Run (2020)
LOVED IT - and praise God for Pit Bulls
I watched this with my 19 yr old daughter and we argued A LOT - sign of a good movie out of the gate. Watched as a horror movie it was great - grabbed on to the real things the main character dealt with made it even better. Leave your judgement at the door and appreciate this film for what it is - taking unpopular/uncomfortable topics and bringing the macabre to the table as well. One of the purposes of horror is to take the real and make it surreal. This SLAYED. The main protagonist is likable, those who try to help are genuine, and ffs someone find this woman a tampon...and praise God for pit bulls.
The Lost City (2022)
WORTH IT FOR PITT (and everyone else)
No spoilers other than to say Brad Pitt NAILED his role - and great belly laughs. Enjoy! The wile movie was great - Channing stepped up and Bullock always delivers. Just have a beer and a smile and enjoy.
WeCrashed (2022)
Jared Leto =WeWon
I was a huge fan of the podcast and this story. Jared Leto left me feeling like I watched this happening real time. There is acting, and there is embracing a persona and running. Worth the watch (and listen to the podcast as well!)
Schmigadoon! (2021)
EXACTLY what's needed in 2021
Stumbled on this and love the cast and Lorne Michaels so I went for it. My hubby (who HATES) musicals sits down, and within 5 minutes we are laughing along!!!!
If you are expecting a 40s musical, this isn't for you.
However if you appreciate the humor this group of talented people bring together, this is a great new spin for this troupe.
Tell Me Your Secrets (2021)
Watch until end
As a mother, daughter and wife this hit me on all levels. I don't write reviews often, and I am crying as I write this one.
It's worth the binge.
The Outsider (2020)
Stick with this...and remember who wrote it!
When I read this book, I couldn't put it down. The series so far is the SAME WAY - the cast is excellent, the sound editing sets the scene and I am highly doubtful anyone guesses the ending. This is classic Stephen King...believable humans at their worst (and best). Tough to watch and impossible to look away. I hope people stick with the full story (and read the book too)!
V.C. Andrews' Heaven: Heaven (2019)
The first 20 minutes and I am lost
Remembering these books from my teen years, I've reread the series in the past few weeks.
Hair color matters.
...as a matter of fact, Heaven's hair color (as well as her Willie's Pa, adoptive crazy mom, etc), plays a huge part. Such a small detail goes MILES for someone familiar. We'll see how the rest goes.
The Haunting of Hill House (2018)
Great shows - ignore the haters
This series was just wonderful! Binge watched over 36 hours, I found myself unable to walk away. While there are those who didn't care for the ending, I think watching and. judging for yourself is a better bet. Worth the time and excellently shot and acted - the children are particularly good. For the jump-scare crowd, this probably isn't for you (though I screamed aloud at least a few times). Horror purists will enjoy this retelling of a classic!
