The Idol (2023)
Lily-Rose Depp is the star in making
I didn't plan to watch this series. But I kept reading negative reviews from outraged people and decided to see what the fuss is all about.
First of all, the series needs to be watched till the end. All those sex scenes make sense at the end.
Second, there are plenty of digs at Amber Heard. Lots of parallels, which are very hard to ignore.
Lily-Rose was excellent! It requires real talent and an observation of human behavior, namely, a narcissistic behavior, to pull such a complex character like Joss. Kudos to her for converting an experience of having narcissistic ex-stepmother to such magnificent performance on the screen! I am sure she will amaze us more in the future!
Jeanne du Barry (2023)
Maïwenn and Johhny Depp duet is sublime!
Jeanne du Barry, a historic drama, is very visual: lavish costumes, luxurious interiors of Versailles.
But it is all nothing with comparison to the talent of Maïwenn, Johnny Depp and the rest of film actors! Their chemistry was amazing. So much said without words: expressive looks complete dialogues without any efforts. Maïwenn and Johnny Depp's acting was so good in last scenes I shed tears. The standing ovation they received at Cannes festival was absolutely justified! I was almost clapping in the end. This film revived the spirit of old good film making which relied only on actors talent and good story, not CGI! Merci beaucoup, Maïwenn, pour un tel bijou!
I will definitely watch it again! It is that good!
Paradise PD (2018)
Disgusting!
This series mocks and insults DV survivour Johnny Depp. It should have seen light of the day at all! I find it curious that some people even watch it and Netflix has it in its library. The character, Johnny Depp, was created WITHOUT the consent of the actor. Moreover, he was abused by Amber Heard during their relationships.
It is just repulsive.
Aquaman (2018)
At best mediocre
I don''t know who would willingly pay money for this film! If one considers film as a bunch of CGI, then it was great. But actors performance...Bad chemistry between main characters, average performance from Momoa. But absolutely wooden, not existent acting from Amber Heard. She make mediocre film absolutely horrible to watch: strange grimaces follows seemingly seductive eye movements. I guess the only part came natural to her fighting scenes. Aggression present in her shows very well on the screen. I think if different actress was casted as Mera, it would help enourmously. All in all: don't bother to watch! Waste of time.
Room (2015)
Very average film
I was curious about this film due to many reviews and comments about Brie Larson's performance as well as its Oscars nominations. But I was very disappointed. The film left me indifferent. There was no connection to "Ma". I expected a genius acting by young actress judging by the hype, but it was average... Of course, it is difficult to act if one did not actually live it through and it is quite understandable.
The only performance that is worth of nominations, from my point of view, is the one of a little boy. So, all in all it is very puzzling why this film and Brie Larson was even considered for Oscars or any other awards..
War & Peace (2016)
Excellent adaptation!
To me, BBC is associated with great books adaptations: "Pride and Prejudice", "Little Dorrit" etc. War and Peace is not an exception. First of all, great casting! Lily James makes a very good Natasha Rostova and Paul Dano portrays really well Pierre Bezukhov, judging by the first episode. The only adaption, I had seen, was Russian adaption, which won an Oscar. So, it was a wonderful surprise to watch how BBC interpreted the book. Even though it was just one episode so far, but it seems they managed to keep the soul of the book intact. Another thing is the costumes! They look absolutely authentic and attention was paid even to a smallest detail! I hope next episodes will be as good as the first one!
