Nothing short of being one of the very best film the genre has to offer. The film has interesting thematic connections to other classics like The Exorcist and Don't look now.
But an even closer relation to the south korean masterpiece The Wailing from 2016.
Without being a direct sequel to that film, The Medium seems to open up, interpret and zoom in on aspects of the wailing in ways where both film are the better for it. Both films are examples of well crafted and personal films, dealing with East-Asian occultism and occult ritualism in different ways. And they are equally entertaining. I would recommend watching The Wailing first. The director of the wailing has written the script and produced the medium.
