Just became a fan of Ms Winslet
19 January 2024
I didn't like Kate Winslet in Titanic. I thought she was miscast.. I haven't really liked her in anything since. I was wrong. She's remarkable in this series. Kate Winslet acts her face off with this highly flawed character. She makes a somewhat unlikable, more than a little screwed up detective, compelling. And her ability to nail the Penn accent was impressive. I even fell for a few of the red flags that kept me from figuring out who the murderer was, until the end.

Candidly, I've not seen an actress more fully committed to a role in recent years.

She reminded me of a younger Meryl Streep.

So empty.
5 January 2024
This movie is so slow, so empty, so dull, it was like watching paint dry. I thought all the actors were falling asleep.

Did the director force the actors to take Xanax before coming in set? There is ZERO inflection in anyone speaking; they have zero interest in other people's actions, and seem to have zero interest in anything.

I wanted to enjoy the aspect of cloning and the future implications, but this movie isn't that. It's just nothing. Nothing is said, nothing happens, no plot, no conflict, no passion, dull dialogue, just nothing to capture anyone's interest.

It's unfortunate too, because the actors are decent.

Everyone complained leaving theater
17 September 2022
When the closing credits roll, and EVERY couple around you complains loudly about how awful the movie was, and then proceed to blame each other for picking it, and going so far as to revoke 'movie picking rights' from each other as the credits roll, you might want to reconsider spending money on this.

The acting is fine. The story is terrible, typical of the genre. Everyone in this movie makes illogical, stupid decisions, and the part that disappointed is that there were ANY survivors of this really bad story.

No suspense, predictable plot, repetitive sequences used as 'fillers', and weird breastfeeding sequences gone horribly wrong, leave the audience wanting their $$ back.

Skip it.

What was Jamie Foxx thinking?
14 April 2021
I luv Jamie Foxx, and really wanted to like this show.

Sadly, it just isn't funny. The 4th wall breaks are contrived and the 'canned' laugh track is irritating.

1st rule of comedy? It's gotta be funny. This isn't that.

Bad writing, acting, directing as well.

Skip this and watch anything else. You'll thank me....

Cypher (2021– )

Bad script, bad acting, bad directing....
20 March 2021
The actors deliver their lines like they're still in high school, overacting in every scene. The mother is a lying witch with her 8 yr old daughter, and has ZERO redeeming qualities.

The story has so many errors, holes, giant gaping plot issues, it's almost unwatchable.

When the writer couldn't figure out how to move the story along, they wrote these genuinely boring (transition) scenes where one actor divulges a private, over-emotional moment, with all the subtlety of an explosion. Those scenes are nothing but filler, and don't move the plot along, or reveal anything about the characters.

I love spy shows and action-driven dramas. This isn't that. This had a promising premise, particularly regarding the actual cypher, however it was such a small part of the first 3 episodes, it just never develops.

Boring, badly acted, poorly directed, edited, and just not interesting.

I seriously hated almost every minute of it.

Annoying voice-over narration
12 December 2020
This movie misses the mark on so many levels; the irritating narration telling us what we're seeing on the screen; the lack of a well-defined obstacle (women in science?) the strange animosity displayed by Curie over her husband attempting to get Nobel interest in their work, the lack of Science in the entire movie?

The leads are ok, however they don't appear to be the right ages in many of the flashbacks, or the implied causality fast forwards, blaming the Curie's discoveries of Radium and Polonium as the reason for Hiroshima and nuclear weapons.

The screenplay is a mess, the dialogue poorly written, and the seriously irritating narration of every single scene highly unnecessary and ridiculous. We aren't that stupid. You don't need to tell us what we're seeing.

Horrible Acting
3 December 2020
I've sat thru 3 episodes, now, and I've got to say, not only is the script terrible, but the supposedly good actors deliver their lines like they're in a high school production.

The lead actress (Kathryn Winnick) is particularly bad, as she says every line with extremely exaggerated facial and mouth movement; completely inauthentic and unnatural. At one point, I wondered if she was hiding chewing gum, as her expressions are so ridiculous.

The only redeeming quality in the acting is the transgender woman, who uses subtlety and facial expressions to the best effect.

The sheriff, while giving the role his best impression of a quirky psychopath, is better than the material. Ronald's Mom has the most unnerving gaze I've ever seen, with her oddly shaped eyes/bone structure and disturbing silences as she blithely ponders why her son is such a loser.

Scenery good; script, acting= terrible.

Don't waste your time.

How do you review extraordinary?
29 October 2020
I expected to be bored; I was enthralled, captivated, mesmerized (yes, I know, 3 things that all mean the same thing) Words cannot accurately convey the right 'mood' this series conjures in my mind.

Everything about this series is brilliant. The writing, acting, casting, cinematography, music, hell, even the wardrobe was perfect.

Watch this series. Fall in love with the story, AND the characters.

You'll be glad you did.

One last thing; Anya Taylor-Joy is the next IT girl in Hollywood. A prediction.

This is an absolute mess.

Worst adaption of a great book I've seen, in many years.

If this is the example of the quality of screenplay writing Disney can produce, they don't deserve to be watched.

It starts out bad, and gets worse. And never finds any redemption.

Disney should be hanging it's head in shame.

Concept Promising; series RUINED by lead actress.
17 April 2020
I'll start by saying the topic of Quantum Computing is fascinating in it's own right. There are several real issues with this series.

First, the actress playing Lily is quite possibly the worst actress I've seen attempting to 'carry' a series, and possibly even the worst actress I've ever seen on ANY show. Flat vocal, expressions, zombie behavior, amateurish 'hyper-ventilating' to 'pretend' anxiety, and even THAT was unwatchable. It's painful to watch her, and I'm angry with the Casting Director, Director, and anyone else responsible for keeping her on the show. She should have been recast after they watched the first 'dailies'.

That having bern said, I enjoyed the performance of Offerman, the always good Allison Pill (Katie) and the Ex-CIA Security guy, Fenton. Notable are the boy genius, and his older mentor (albeit an often-used plot gimmick).

Music ok, a little cloying as if it's supposed to be it's own character. The Image of the creepy girl statue will stay in your brain for awhile, although the series ending will not.
