The Venture Bros.: Radiant Is the Blood of the Baboon Heart (2023)
Please don't let this be the very end.
Thank you Doc and Jackson for your wonderful made-up world of struggling superheros and their colourful adverseries. The series has been a constant source of amusement and intrigue to me for 20 years and this film does tie up the story in a respectable fashion.
Still it would have been so much better to get the final season the creators were promised.
Please let this not be the very end for Team Venture - if you bring out more seasons I'll purchase them physically and digitally, if you make more DVDs I'll import them regardless of region, if the T-Shirt club was available in the UK I'd have that too.
Swiss Army Man (2016)
Most enjoyable film I've seen all year
Couldn't help but smile my way through this film.
All I knew going in was that Daniel Radcliffe was playing a corpse and I was interested to see how that worked out.
I didn't know if it was going to be a showcase of physical comedy like Weekend at Bernie's or some deep and disturbing work on death, loss, loneliness or such.
Bit of both as it turns out.
At times the humour tips towards the puerile but I didn't mind. I found the film charming, affecting and above all very different from the usual things I watch.
Resident Alien (2021)
Fantastic series.
Really enjoyable show, had me hooked from the pilot. Genuine laughs at some of the gags and line delivery, great characters who you actually start to care about and a great job on the special effects with what I imagine must have been a pretty tight budget (although some CGI in the last ep was kind of ropey).
Would I like to see a second season? Absolutely.
The Watch (2020)
I Gave Up.
Woof, what a horrible mess this show is. Even if I wasn't a huge fan of Pratchett's work (to which this is a slap in the face with an excrement caked plimsoll) I would have trouble enjoying this confused and tonally imbalanced offering.
I hated it. I did not finish the third episode and I'm not going to bother with the next. Too depressing to see a great man's legacy and brilliance tarnished by this steaming pile.
