Jackass 4.5 (2022)
Funny but virtue signalling really?
I have seen some Jackass movies, but this still hit, some of the stuns were really messed up (which a good thing in jackass).
But why on earth get a girl on set if she is not gonna do anything, other than telling 1 weak joke. Like why promote equality while doing absolute inequality. If you get a girl on set then she should do what the guys have to do, equal right?
Arcane: League of Legends (2021)
Amazing!
To me I have to say that this is the absolute best visual and atmosphere building I have ever seen in any TV shows so far.
As an ex-lol player and an avid lover of the lore I've gotta say that they truly made this series very much accessible for everyone while still giving the fans what they wouldn't even expect.
So you might be wondering why 9 not 10? Well for that so far the story has great potential, and the events happening without a minute of boredom, it's not to fast yet the feel of an underlying message doesn't come as so impactful from the first 3 episodes at least, the story is very good, but not the most impactful that is. But oh boy do they have more in store judging from the teasers, so this might be subject to change.
And I would like to add that this is how you make a strong female character, like noone ever cared that they were strong females present (as many other shows make it annoying) because it was done the right way.
Rick and Morty: Rickdependence Spray (2021)
Really worried about the show
I love the show at least I used to but this season is getting bad...
Rick and Morty wasn't a great show because of the fun episodes, we already have family guy, Rick and Morty was great because it showed actually possible problems, reflected on our problems in the context of the RnM universe, played around with possible dream ideas we have (like the safe-chechkpoint) and having that dressed up in this funny/action-packed format was just icing on the cake, sealing a masterful work.
But this season is nothing of that sort. This episode is fine (although it is the worst of all in my opinion), all the episodes in this season so far were fine, but we already have 4 episodes of this season with barely any depth which is unpresedented of Rick and Morty. The only real depth we got so far was the "Hoovy universe", but even that was happening really fast being complete side thread and threated in such a comedic way that it destroyed most of it's seriousness. I laughed my head off from the dragon episode, which was the 4th episode after the "death crystal" episode which had depth, the "shy pooper" episode which had depth in the context of Rick's character, the "heist" episode was a more fun less depth fun, but still the genius plan of Rick added some brain-using to it. And after the dragon episode the snakes followed which again had depth. The dragon episode is hated (although I was having fun with it) and yet it was much more reasonably placed within the season.
I feel like so far this season is heading a wrong way this episode was the wakeup call for everyone now.
No-brain fun episode are good they should be present, but not prevalent. I miss the depth, the soul, the reason.
Rick and Morty: Mort Dinner Rick Andre (2021)
Average episode
This episode wasnt bad, but it wasn't a good choice for the season 5 premiere as I see it.
I was laughing my head off watching the dragon episode and I also had a few chuckles with this fun but it wasn't same deal. First of all Nimbus isn't the most boring character by any means, but starting the season with "aquaman" who is known to be lame, in RnM universe the concept is irrelevantly lame, Rick even states that "You are an embarrassment to me". This all can be comedic, but not as a season starter for a season, following a season with an ending where some of us expected actual development for the story the next season. Also Season premieres are usually strong with deeper implications, not necessary the deepest ones, but make you think a little.
In this episode the whole Hoovy thread is deep and would be interesting, but it's a little tiny bit forced (by 5th season Morty not thinking about, if times moves faster there then he gets back to a different world, but this isn't terribly off) and more importantly, made too much fun of up to a point where you can't take the deeper meaning any serious. Part of this is that the whole Hoovy thread is happening increadibly too fast (probably due to a 20 min episode having 3 different storythreads) so whenever something happens in the Hoovy universe that could make you think, within seconds it get destroyed/invalidated by "Rick-Godlike power".
So all in all it's not a bad episode, but for me after the last season, I was probably expecting more than a joke episode for a start.
Invincible (2021)
Awesome show
Honestly it would be a 10 in my book if I wasn't reminded every 10 minutes how PC they are. The most abnoxious part is when the girl says with enthusiasm: "The university has a great social justice program". Like it's a good thing, no it's not, universities should NEVER be about politics, but be about science, similarly a show shouldn't be about politics, but be about the story. You can have it but not in this quantity, almost makes the person quit because of it which is a shame.
The Dragon Prince (2018)
Compelling
A fantasy story with interesting and insanely compeling characters, it's also funny with it's dumb humor. The characters will touch one's heart.
On the other side the "social justice thing" is overdone a bit, but I have never seen a piece do it as well as this one, and the way to that was balance. We do have white male protagonists just as much as we have elf female ones with FLAWS. It is overdone for example when every single couple is either racially diverse or the same sex, you get the idea. So they did overdo it, but it wasn't that annoying. Maybe in the future they will bring back some balance who knows?
Definetly worth to watch.
Dark (2017)
Dragged on for too long
The first season sets up nicely got me hooked to the screen by the end of it but after that it just became dragged out to me.
The idea of fatelism gets foreshadowed by the end of the first season and gets more obvious throughout the start of season 2 that everything will happen as they always happened. Now a movie/show like this will likely have a way to break the cycle and have free will (basically the audience demands having free will by the end of a show usually) which will be inevitably a paradox already which is obviously a problem but I can get over that, still can be a good story. But from the start of the 2nd season onward the same stuff happens all over again (like a never ending cycle HAHA). We get that you can't change the past and it's fun to watch it through the actions of one character once but when the 29th character tries to change their past the 123th time frankly I just don't care you already know how it plays out, like I didn't care for a single second about Katharina trying to free Ulrich and it was shown in season 3!
The other thing is the opposing teams lying in metaphors for the 213th time. After the first time both parties lie once I pretty much didn't care what they were about to say I knew it was going to be more lies, more try to change the past speaches when we know it cannot be changed and the endless metaphors just made it more annoying after a point (pretty much if someone was talking in metaphors they were lying).
I also suspected that having equal parties against each other saying the other one doesn't know the whole picture will end up both of them being wrong and some third party/deus ex machina thing happening most likely through a paradox and you know the rest. Oh and yeah the finale ends up being a giant paradox too.
Now the paradoxes are annoying but this is as much curvature you are going to get from this type of time travel idea. It could have been a more enjoyable 1 watch miniseries if it was shorter in my opinion. For about one and a half seasons the characters's action don't matter they are doing the same thing and I didn't care, they don't even grow as characters because they are doing what they were doing already. Yes you have to show it but not over and over again.
It's not a bad show but definetly not a masterpiece and is far from that if I'm honest.
Tenet (2020)
Built to entertain, not to explain time travel
Tenet is not a usual movie that shows really well what Nolan has going for it.
The music the action sequence the complicated but a masterfully delicate plotline is definetly something that gives an amazing cinematic experience if you can let go of either not understanding or seeing how something doesn't fit. Because I don't think there is anyone who can understand the whole of it on the go to understand every detail it requires more watches. Exposition which Inception was known for, is dialed back to not try to prove this scientifically implausible idea but make you get it. It explains the bare minimum to be able understand the plotline but it doesn't try to give you a strong explanation on the physics for a reason. It is implausible and the movie sends the director's message throughout the whole time to not dwell on it, get the plotline and enjoy the action.
On the other hand it still ends up diving into the questions of fatelism, purpose and real heroes which gives it a decent deepness as much as it is possible for such a idea but can still fulfill some of our big question thinking.
It's unique it's well-executed, it's not perfection but it is as much as the idea can be. I'm more of a "plotguy" and don't prefer action but it was highly enjoyable after just letting go of the plausibility. It's unique it's fun it's cinema, definetly worth a watch.
Chernobyl (2019)
All adults must watch
I have to say that everyone who is over 18 must watch this. I knew about almost all of the happenings during chernobyl, but the show still overwhelmed me like nothing else before.
This has happened like they show it, that's the horrifying reality. The production quality is astonishing including the music, dresses, science accuracy etc. The people who get portrayed are the reason I can walk the Earth here in Hungary, yet so few heard of them. It also shows the reality of politics, and it's not just the Soviet Union, though politics improved some things won't change.
I could talk hours about it, but all in all I can say that it reminds everyone how fragile we are and where our humanity really lies.
Avengers: Endgame (2019)
I hoped for more
Since the first Iron Man movie I was a big fan of the show. It was a very good movie with lots of good moments, but i have to say after Infinity war I feel disappointed.
First of all I felt like the avengers cheated. They say that they got only 1 shot at it, because they have only so much of the stuff, (which sounds unfulfilling for me already) but then they just go back and grab more, so if they just grab 1 extra every time (its not the same timeline, infinite timelines) they can get as many shots as they want. They also don't wanna bother the other timelines, but they end up screwing that timeline big time. Cap is at the lake so he has gone back to their original timeline (which Bruce said isn't the case with time travel, as they went back those events didn't happen in the orignial timeline, so it had to be another one). There are other examples I could list. So i feel that with time-travel they just took a too big bite, it just cannot be explained in two sentences, whole movies/movie series incorporate the idea of course it will feel off for any viewer who can't help themselves not to think.
They kinda murdered the character of Thanos for me. Thanos was the guy who saw it as his duty to save the universe from itself sacrificing whatever it takes, even his most precious daughter. He respected Stark to the very end of Infinity War. Everything he did felt rational. But in Endgame his conversations get all angry, subjective and unreasonable. You obviously don't have to destroy the whole world and rebuild it just because some superintelligent fellow with friends who had personal interests, figured out a way to fight back.
Thor was also strangely treated. It was funny that he got fat and all (which i don't know how the Thor fans feel about), but why didn't he get back inot shape for battle or at least try? Also back in Infinity War he oneshotted Thanos even with the full gauntlet, and now he didnt stand a chance (if you say he suprised him then remember, he caught the axe many times while he was turned around). Obviously you can say after this that he was weaker since he was fat etc. but then they could just wait for him to get into shape etc.. Furthermore, if Cap got the powers of Thor and can handle both of his weapons then Thor becomes pretty degraded.
On the bright side i have to give a huge credit for the character developments, they nailed them. The fight scenes felt better than ever. They made Antman feel epic after joking about him. So many epic moments, Cap with the broken shield and that iron man line with the snap just amazing.
