Everything Everywhere All at Once (2022)
The best of the best
I give it a 10 based on how imaginative it is but frankly, if you are into philosophy and science you would give it 11/10 with the extra point coming from another universe. Can't imagine how well a complex subject such as the chaos theory can be implemented smoothly into a movie that can be enjoyed by everyone like this. Ah well, maybe it's thanks to the sausages (wink wink). This movie is miles ahead of most other attempts to explore the multiverse subject.
Don't Look Up (2021)
Enjoyable and thought provoking
The movie reached the level of satire that would be unbearable for people who thought that they themselves are the laughable subjects of the theme. For us casual viewers with absolutely no agenda, it's a freaking joy. Wonderful casts and an enticing plot, what more do you need to know?
Game of Thrones: The Long Night (2019)
Great directing meets terrible writing that could ruin the whole series
I would say that if there is a live tracking of the rating of this episode, it will be 9-9.5/10 for the most of the episode and then drop to 1-1.5/10 at the last 10 minutes. I will try to give a fair review of it but it seems impossible to downplay the last 10 mins because of how damaging it is for not only this episode but the whole show. I have never wanted to stop watching GOT after an episode but I did want to quit this time.
Cinematic, directing and effects: 9.5/10
Great directing of the WW and their fearsome force even before they visually appear. Great tension build-up for the whole episode. The music is awesome throughout, especially the one before the NK died. The only criticism is that the beginning of the war was too dark, I can't see anything clearly. It was good because it gives you the real feeling of the human warriors. However, it was dark for too long that it irritates your eyes up to a point. Even Arya jump and John standing up to the dragon is epic as hell.
Writing: 2/10
:
- First of all, let's sum up who are the real main character of this episodes: Arya - Melisandre - Jorah - Theon - NK
- Now let's talk about Arya. My problem is not too much with the fact that she is the chosen one to kill the NK but with how it was done. Literally, Arya and the WW had zero, I mean, zero interaction before this episode. It really reminds me of Superman in the Justice League movies against Steppenwolf or whatever his name is. And along with that, please take in the fact that Jon Snow and the NK has had way too many encounters in the past and everyone was craving for them to have a duel. I will completely be fine if Jon had his sword fight with NK and then created an opening for Arya to jump in and kill NK. You also could have Viserion the dragon jump in between Snow and NK and then Jon dealt with it so that Arya can run after the NK. There are so many better ways to do this and I'm not even a writer. Yes, you could have argued that the whole point is to surprise the audience but will you be happy if the final face off in Star Wars was between Han Solo and Darth Vader, AND, it ends with one gun shot? No. Would it be a surprise? Freakin' yes. Got my point? Not to mention that the way Arya got pass all the NK's Generals is ridiculous. Drops of blood 40 cm from the ground can attract the WW and then she just danced through 12 generals like a joke with only one of them feeling her presence?
Finally, the NK. The much hyped villain in the series. His first encounter with a main character from the series a...n...d..... he's dead. It's just so ridiculous. He didn't kill anyone important, didn't leave a mark. He did kill Theon but we all know he's gonna die anyway. I mean even if Theon was killed under a sword of a WW you wouldn't care. You cannot hype a villain for 7 seasons and then let him die like a filler character like this. And the NK's Generals, oh, so wonderful. They did not do any freakin' thing. Showed up like a bad ass boy band in the 90s and then turn into broken glass in a second. Did you see how tough it was to deal with one WW in Hardhome?
Overall, the writing of this episode erased every good thing in the previous seasons. I can stand the teleportation of characters in S7 but this I cannot forgive. Yes, the episode makes your heart pound hard multiple times but it was all for nothing in the end. An abrupt ending meant to surprise viewers in a good way turned into a horrible scam that left everyone with a bad taste.
Overall 5/10
Justice League (2017)
How a "super heroes league" movie should be made
To be honest, I should give a 8 instead of a 9 but this is for encouraging the film makers and actors in the movies. The reason why critics do not give a high rating for this movies is simply because they have been looking at it under the same old scope based on previous Marvel movies. This movie, to me, is how a super heroes league movie should be made.
Now a few points:
- If you are expecting to have a fun time, you'll get it from JL.
- If you are expecting awesome characters with great acting skills, you'll get it. The movie gives a lot of time for new characters like Flash, Aquaman, Cyborg to develop.
- If you are expecting to see the coolest Aquaman in history, you definitely are gonna get it.
- If you are looking for great emotional interactions and attack combination between all super heroes and not just the main ones - the thing that Marvel has completely failed to do, you will get it in JL. After JL, you will have a very clear understand on how heroes feel about each others. For example, how Batman sees the Flash, how Wonder Woman sees Cyborg and many many more. All interactions are logical and not forceful in anyway.
- The actions are way way cooler than in avengers, all the movements of the characters are clear and the effects are tremendous. I watched Avengers in 3D and remembered that I cannot see all the action because it was too messy and fast. In justice league, they do know how to make use of the 3D glasses.
- Now, the only downside of this movie is the villains which is a little bit lame but to be honest, Loki is of the same level in terms of strength (not as a character in later marvel's movies, but as a villain in Avenger first movie). Another downside is just my personal taste, which is I don't like superman to be that strong in every movies, make him vulnerable a bit will you, Zach?
In conclusion, JL is a great superhero movies and raise the bar in how you should develop multiple characters in a movie. It is not yet perfect but you will be satisfied with what the film is heading towards to. It opens a door for all the single hero movies in the future. The casts are great and way better than in Avengers. The spotlights of the movies are Ezra Miller and Jason Momoa where they steal the show multiple times. Wonder Woman and Batman appears less so that they can give the stage to the new characters, which is something Avengers failed to do. Finally, go see the movie and don't hesitate even one bit!
Boone: The Bounty Hunter (2017)
Fun and actions-packed movies
If you like somewhat cool action movies, this is the one for you. Not bad at all from a low cost action movies. John Hennigan aka Johnny Mundo is back with some unbelievable parkour action. All the actions look real and the slow-mo was top! To be honest, the conversations are sometimes cliché but there are a lot of funny lines from this movies that it's worth forgetting the minor flaws. The plot is also good. Fun film considering the budget! Recommended!
