Day Break (2006–2007)

A great original show but ran out of steam
10 March 2007
The first few episodes of Day Break had me riveted, it was a rare thing, a thought provoking, original TV show with a great cast, but after a few weeks, it appeared that the show was running out of steam.

The plot didn't have the legs for a 13 episode run, and whilst I was very disappointed that ABC had dropped Day Break so soon, was not entirely surprised, had Day Break been a 6 or 8 Episode season it would have been perfect, but there are only so many permutations for this premise and for me it soon felt tired.

Thankfully the show has aired in the UK and BRAVO will show all 13 episodes, the originality of the show deserves a full run and those that watch all 13 will be rewarded.

Disappointing

Although I was biased towards the first movie as I am a Newcastle United fan, I felt let down by Goal! 2, not just that Munez had the audacity to leave the Toon for Real Madrid, but due to the poor direction, plot and screenplay of the sequel.

The first movie, although far from perfect, had its moments, a lively screenplay, absorbing direction and a fairly tidy plot, Goal!2 on the other hand, was found wanting in all of these areas.

The plot felt far-fetched and desperate, and the cinematography amateurish, I found the film entertaining but not absorbing, I'm sure I will watch Goal! 3 pure for a sense of personal closure rather than because of excited anticipation.

Just Brilliant !

Don't allow yourself to be put off by the subtitles nor the recent comments made by Mel Gibson, nor should you be too put off by the harrowing scenes of gore and violence, as they are in context with the plot and the cultures depicted in the film, for if you do, you will be denying yourself a truly thrilling and utterly enjoyable spectacle of a movie.

Stunningly shot, and brilliantly acted my in the most part a cast making their first acting experiences, the film will have you on the edge of your seat from beginning to end, I had read many positive reviews of the film prior to watching, but still watched with an open mind, and was spellbound.

Mel Gibson may have his faults, but as a director and storyteller, he excels, I was a massive fan of Braveheart, and for me this movie takes the enjoyment to a new level, a career best, although the film does suggest that it "borrows" from other movies in part, it has the feel of something very unique, certainly a film to watch again and again and will be a welcome addition to my DVD collection.
