King Arthur: Legend of the Sword (2017)
Will love if y0u love The Room and Plan 9 from Outer Space
I watched it with my mouth hanging open in shock. Did they make this for the tax loss (see The Producers)? It has movement and colours and apparently that is enough for some people. I cannot think of one thing that worked: Cast NO, script NO, score NO, cinematography NO. I cannot imagine how anyone could greenlight this script - i have done a lot of drugs but there is no drug strong enough to have made me think this turd had a chance, . I think this movie broke me, still in shock, would give anything to unwatch. When Ritchie said "snatch with swords", someone should have told him to F off and kicked him in the nuts.
Love the Coopers (2015)
Moving reflections on life, family and love. If you do not shed a tear you are heartless.
I started this movie just because nothing was on (tube full of Xmas). I was first sucked in by the great John Goodman and the sublime Alan Arkin. Once Olivia Wilde's character started to develop I was hooked.
I am gobsmacked to see how wrong the low ratings for this movie are. The unique characters and the depth of emotions, mostly love, are incredible. Maybe people want quick cuts and action and just don't know how to let a movie based on dialogue slowly draw them in and make you care about the characters, all of which are rounded and easily lovable, yet each deeply flawed in ways anyone that has lived a few decades will identify with.
I am a tough guy in my 50s and I shed tears three times. Not only that, but several times I had to pause the film so I could ponder how the wise words about love and life relate to my life and mistakes. From this day on my life will be better because of what i realized was true,as displayed in this movie, about family, love, regrets. And I will forever love Olivia Wilde. Her scenes alone are worth watching this movie.
If you can watch this movie closely and not shed a tear, you are dead inside and should immediately seek psychiatric help. Solid 7.5/10
Mr. Holmes (2015)
If you are a true Sherlock fan and acting, you will love this movie
I did not expect to love this movie, I am a huge Sherlock Holmes fan ad have been reading the original Sir Arthur Conan Doyle books and stories over and over again for almost 45 years in addition to other authors version of the character and watching every Sherlock film made (big Rathbone/Bruce fan). I admire Sir Ia 's acting but worried that this film would not capture the thrill of the hunt as the film apparently focused on the final years of Sherlock's life
I was surprised to see all around highly skilled acting and the greatest, richest portrayal of the character ever. Sir Ian's portrayal added nuance and insight into Sherlock although question remain. He finally, at his advanced age, struggles with being alone but can we be sure he ever really cared abut anyone or did he act that way because he realized that dying alone is terrifying whereas living alone can be comforting.
The film deserves a 9 or 10 due to the acting and the greatest ever, deepest and most multi-faceted portrayal of Sherlock ever. It is quite a feat to offer new insight into a character that has been the subject of so many authors, actors and film makers.
If you truly love SH like I do, you will absolutely love this film and, at at least one of several moments in th film will likely exclaim "aha, the game is afoot!"
