Miss Sloane (2016)
9/10 score from me
Ms. Sloan is not exactly a model moral compass but her determination in urging and making "gun control" a success is exactly the right thing to do in a world where a lot of us are confused about what is right and what is not. If only gun freedom can stop the wrong usage of guns, Jesus would just use gun instead of preaching and being a perfect model to "show them your left/ right cheek if they slap the other cheek." If violence can end violence, Ghandhi, Mother Teressa, Buddha, Jesus, Mandela would have seek to restore peace, inner calmness and benefit to all using violence and war. They did not. The arguments of gun control has been on and on for years, things may be even more absurd when there is a president who seldom resort calmness and inner wisdom. While USA continues to earn money by exporting guns, weapons, how is it possible for USA to have less gun violence within its border? If I were to be rich, I will be rich no matter what occupation/ business I engage in. I don't have to sell weapons to make myself rich. Good weapon usage are far lower than people using weapons for wrong things. If peace and prosperity are built upon weapons, I would rather not go to heaven for I never want a heaven built upon violence, rage and brutality.
Justice League (2017)
Not a "Justice league" fan but this movie certainly has some pretty good scenes
Was there in the cinema just for Wonder Woman. We could go on for the fact there are always more superheros movies than movies featuring super-heroines but this movie is a good start, hopefully.
The initial Amazons scenes were amazing, soldiers fighting, united, making sacrifices, they are just so overwhelming! It's a pity, these scenes did not last long.
The whole movie is just rather short given it has to explain, introduce a lot of characters, and then having them coming together to defeat the bay guys. Perhaps having two directors over one movie is not that ideal this time.
I am not a fan of "justice league" but the fact once superman comes in and defeat the main bad guy while his peers cannot even hold the latter down united is rather......does this movie aims to tell us: superman is above and all with his blessed superpower that other heroes and heroines are comparatively some kind of wall-flower when push comes to shove?
Anyway, given the great, fearless, brave Amazons scenes in this movie, plus they do not make Wonder Woman wearing a more revealing than her "costumed-made" outfit since "forever", I have to rate this a 8/10. Women do not need to be revealing to be bad ass.
The Foreigner (2017)
8/10 even though I am certainly not a fan of Jackie Chan
Even though I agree very differently with everything Jackie Chan has said in the past, I have to say this movie rates 8/10
Perhaps if you are an Irish knowing the history and all, that this movie is an over-simplification of what'd happened. You may be right but with the plot, the way the movie relaying the messages and all, even if it's not entirely sticking with the reality/ truth/ history, it certainly seems as though it is carrying certain truth.
Another reason why this' a 8/10 movie, for a man age after 60 years old like Mr.Chan, to fight in the ways he did in the past, that itself is certainly not an easy task. We all may be able to hold a gun, but to fight like he still do after 60 years old......I am not sure I can do so, even the whole ordeal is fake motions acting like fighting. These actions are not that easy to bear with.
There are certainly several plots that seem quite brutal to me, so spoiler alert here.I certainly don't think there are any needs to kill bad men/women who no longer pose any threats.Hence the deduction of rating.
It's a happy ending, sort of, in the end. Chinese have come a long way indeed, if you ever read any Chinese recent history dating back to the beginning of Opium war in Qing dynasty, you will know what I am referring to. Wouldn't it be great if more and more people act on preserving the humanity we all once shared?
Moral behind the story:say no to affairs especially when you're married. It certainly won't kill us when we keep them in the pants.Or so it seems.
Ghost in the Shell (2017)
A movie that exceeds my expectations
Definitely 10/10. In the times where humanity is at risk, where people seems to find it hard to tell right from wrong, where some can get away from law without consequences, these all give people a false impression: as long as you are powerful, you won't need to abide by moral& law. Nothing says these are not a path to happiness and joy than this movie.
I don't care if this is not a movie from major movie-making companies, as long as the movie does not have too much violent, brutal, bloody, sexual scenes and above all, help enforcing a basic rule---humanity is our virtue, I am all for that.
Think of it this way, if all of those with power, money can do whatever they want including harming other people with less power and wealth, I really don't think any parents would want their children to be exposed to these toxic environment.
Kingsman: The Golden Circle (2017)
Shouldn't have expected too much from a typical "hero" movie
So, Kingsmen are all invincible and ass-kicking ( like the first movie) but down-right incompetent when they met the Statemen......? Huh? If this is a way to convince people that America will be great again, I am not sure this movie helps. Pity.
Typical boys' club hero movie is common but after all these years, still there is only such a little evolvement is simply a disappointment. Also what's with all news being just Fox's news? I watch Fox News yes but I also watch BBC, MSNBC, come on, if you are making a movie, try not to just show the world you are that secluded and try to give people a bigger picture. The world is bigger than anyone of us can imagine and just tuning in Fox News is not getting you anywhere.
I like a lot of casts in this franchise but the movie simply is a repeat of what it was in the first and the moral behind the story far weaker than the previous one. If you are looking for a better way to kill your 2 hours, I highly suggest other things----pick up a book e.g. "The 7 habits of highly effective people" will be better than watching this. If you are just looking for something that makes you laugh, I think online clean jokes is better than Kingsman 2.
Underworld: Blood Wars (2016)
Always good to see Selene back in action
It's been such a long time since last Underworld franchise. It's a bit disappointed to know some characters' death but all in all, it's always good to see Selene back in action. Would be great to see more of her child as well too. Will the change of director change anything? Maybe but not much to me perhaps. Movies focusing on how hard women worked, fought in search of victory and success is still as rare as it comes. And frankly, such characters, more often than not are being under-estimated. Definitely need more movies depicting the sacrifices of what people have done to maintain humanity in the world, even though we all know this has become more and more challenging.
Janet King (2014)
A rarity in TV series
Imagine you're a person who live by your own principle: committed to your family and work, you're forced to run a trial despite the lack of sufficient evidence (because you're not in the highest rank), that will be "Janet King" season 1 In season 2, you've been through a devastating lost, still working through your very own PTSD, then again you're offered to run an investigation by someone higher rank than you but somewhere along the line, you have no say in certain very important matter. Also you're being accused for something you have not done......how will you proceed?
This TV series help me get through a lot of difficult times and I'm every grateful this TV series ever exist.
Janet King: Here and Now (2016)
Excellent indeed.
A lot of plots are really surprises and the brilliant acting of the stars especially Marta is just so overwhelming.
A quality TV series that honours commitment, kindness, abiding laws and regulation like such should really be made more often. Thank you for having a season 2 for this show.
Have been watching a lot of TV series and this is really the first time where the good qualities of the character influence the decisions I make in daily life, at work.
The characters have a tough work and Janet has a challenging life at home we well. but the fact that humanity is still there despite all odds is simply something to be cherished.
