Innocence (2004)
Humans, cyborgs, puppets. Is there a soul in everyone?
Breathtakingly beautiful and yet full of action and depth. A gorgeous movie, that blew me right away.
If one has seen the first Ghost In The Shell movie(which is a 'must' I think) you'll have even more to think about in the second one. Philosophical quotes and new morale problems, stunning action, twists and turns...
In this movie the former partner of Major Motoko Kusanagi, the cyborg Bateau is the main character. He faces crimes connected with 'love-dolls' which go berserk and murder their owners. The more he gets involved the more problems with artificial reality he has to face. Can he trust his own perception or is somebody hacking his e-brain?
I just loved this movie!!! Sitting in the cinema, the sheer incredible artwork and wonderful music rose goose-flesh almost all the time!!! Sometimes the CGI backgrounds and the story even brought the tears to my eyes!
The plot is superb, the characters have life and depth, the music, the CGI... WOW!!!
Go and watch this picture in a big cinema with surround sound, buckle your seat belts and take off in a strange, yet sometimes familiar world of high technology, where cyborgs live besides humans and puppets.
My vote? 10 out of 10!!!
Must.. buy... the... DVD, must... have... the... soundtrack...
Casshern (2004)
Hero, equipped with a sort of invincible Armor comes virtually back from the dead to fight evil.
I'm not sure what to make of this movie. The visuals were breathtaking, the designs awesome... But I don't know what the artist was trying to tell me. He just lost me along the way. I have to admit, that I don't know the original Comic though.
I did not fully understand the Plot until the last two minutes! I was just too irritated about the different styles and story lines. O.K. It is an Asian movie and I expected some weird story... but Casshern was too weird for me.
Somewhere in there are three or four good movies but it's all mixed up! It seems that the director wanted too much and and couldn't decide which way to go and which style to choose. What about the funny Comic Scenes???
I liked the main characters, the tragic love story... still the fights were way too fast and the eye was unable to follow the action. A pity, because you can't say that Casshern is a bad movie, it just looks far too good.
Dragstrip Girl (1994)
Young thief falls in love with a rich girl, his whole world falls apart.
I rated this movie 3, because it has a real weak storyline. The acting is... lets say under the average, not that the actors had a good chance with this script. O.K. Young, handsome guy steals cars without hurting anybody. He falls in love with a rich girl by just seeing her once, gets punched by her boyfriend. To impress her, he stops thinking, steals a new car and forgets his principles. On the second meeting... sex. Not that I say anything against sex... but this movie plays in the 50s! A relatively senseless car race ends all, the little brother of our "hero" being dead. I'm sorry, but that was far too weak for me. Almost everything was predictable, too many loose ends and not enough 50s feeling and style for a movie set in this time.
