Spree (2020)
Is there some price for the dumbest film of the year?
This film is unbelievably dumb, I can't believe someone actually read its creenplay and thought: Yeah, okay this might be a good idea. Cheap bad quality stuff, don't waste your time.
The Other Lamb (2019)
Boring sometimes, but always beautiful
SPOILERS AHEAD
Could it have been a brilliant medium length film? Absolutely.
Instead the director preferred to make a feature film that for the most part is quite boring. But it's BEAUTIFULLY made.
Three scenes bothered me in particular. The first was a silly fight between Evelyn and Selah when the latter apparently offended one of the wives (???)... it wasn't clear to me what was the offense and the conflict between the two girls was pathetically acted (overall I liked the acting in the film, but to me this scene was painful to watch).
The second is a scene where, in a dream, Selah "paints" her cheeks warrior style with blood. It was too literal and obvious, contradicting the subtlety of the other dreams and visions she had.
The last scene was also too obvious and wrapped the film in a cliche way, with the women staring at the camera. I know it was supposed to symbolize their awakening and revenge, but it could have been so much more subtle.
I thought the script treated the exiled woman (the broken thing) very lightly, with little to no importance and then out of the blue the main character remembers her (with a beautiful description of a woman that was made of moon and teeth) as if she had been a hero to them. I think she really was, but only because I assumed it myself, the film didn't manage to sucessfully deliver that ideia at all.
Although the film is too dragged and has some factors that bother me, it has good performances, nice singing and the best of it all: it is filmed with mastery, you can fill your eyes with such beauty.
Last Shift (2014)
Laughable and a total cliche
Started well and the main character is kinda good, but for me it went way off the rails when the exaggerated bloody characters (not really well done by the way) appeared... it got totally unbelievable.
Not my kind of horror, I think this film is tacky and a total boring cliche.
If you like seeing the usual bloody/disgusting entities and are willing to ignore the weakness of the story and lack of creativity, maybe this film is for you.
Eli (2019)
You've already seen it before. But better
Boring and lazy "The Omen" wannabe. At the beginning you may think it will surprise you with new stuff, but nah.. after the first act you know what's about to happen because you've seen it several times in much better films. I would
classify "Eli" as an enfantile horror film about one more little antichrist.
None of the actors are really good, but the ones that play Eli's parents are cringy-bad.
Pyewacket (2017)
Entertaining enough
Pyewacket is a low budget and light supernatural horror film that is worth watching.
It's the typical story of teenager summoning an evil creature but it's clever and very well acted. The script is simple and does it's work very well, building reasonable tension minute by minute.
The ending is kinda predictable but I still think it's satisfactory, since it closes the story in a believable way.
Home Movie (2008)
Oh God, this is pure crap
This is the story: super cringy dad decides to record the most boring moments with his family wich consists in his wife, an unbelievably stupid child psychologist and two totally weirdo kids. First minutes you already know the kids are nuts, but their mom who is a freakin doctor thinks they are just fine. But give her a break, she starts thinking that there's something a little bit wrong after they crucify the family's cat (in this house the pets are the only cool guys, poor things).
In these poorly glued shots you can see the parents being dumb and the kids being sadistic (and yet boring) killers. And ALL THIS acted by the worst actors you could possibly imagine.
I just felt bad watching this because is too unbelievable and sloppily made.
The Witch in the Window (2018)
It has it's moments
This is a simple VERY LIGHT horror that follows a father and his son that are trying to reform a house that the father just bought. The house is already inhabited by a mysterious ghost of a woman, wich is not the regular ghost from cliche scary movies.
The film has some cute moments between father and son, given that the father was kinda absent from his son's life and is trying to reconnect with him.
You will also see some good and smart scary moments, as the part when the father is trying to leave the house but he finds himself in a looping that doesn't let him get out. Or the one where the son is talking to the father and suddenly the father finds out that his son is actually not there, but in his mom's house.
As already mentioned, the ghost (the with from the movie's title) is interesting. Not the usual evil. In some point you may sympathize with her.
BUT this is not a movie with a well explained story and surprising discoveries that take your breath away. The movie has a good story but a lot of details are merely mentioned and never explained. You'll have to guess.
It's worth your time if you're looking for a simple light horror that has cool characters and a cohesive plot.
Bird Box (2018)
Total waste of a what could have been a good plot
Too cliche and bad acting. Because of that, nothing in this weak piece is believeble.
The Strangers: Prey at Night (2018)
This is a movie about idiot people killing imbecile people.
Worse than the worst cliche!
This is so weak that I feel bad about losing my time watching it.
All of the characters are extremly stupid, it's impossible to root for any of them.
The acting of everyone is so awfull that you can actually feel embarrassed for them.
