Clifford the Big Red Dog (2019)
Good, but...
This show is good... to a kid who's never seen the original. To a person who has grown up with Clifford, it just pales in comparison to the old show. I don't have anything against them playing pretend, it's just that I would appreciate it if they would also tie in more of the friendship values that the original series taught. I also don't really mind Clifford's voice because since John Ritter's gone, having the exact same voice is too much to ask for. I am also iffy on how Emily Elizabeth and Clifford talk to each other. I usually like shows where animals and humans communicate, but with Clifford it just seems weird.
The thing I miss the most are the characters. Emily Elizabeth and Clifford are the only characters from the original series (although I'm not sure about Emily Elizabeth's new look). The rest of the cast are replaced by entirely new characters. Yes, I didn't really like Mac and Jetta when I was younger, but I guess the saying is true anyway: You don't really notice how much you appreciate someone until their guy. And yes, I even miss Mr. Bleakman. He was more like Mr. Wilson then a complete jerk.
In conclusion, your kids might find this show interesting; however, I do like the original better.
Xavier Riddle and the Secret Museum (2019)
Good concept, but...
This show has a good concept and interesting characters, but it does have some similarities to Superbook, such as when they flash forward in time, like in the Helen Keller episode, and how Burpy (Burby?) scans people. Even Brad has some similarities to Gizmo. Also, I would appreciate it if they elaborated more on what those historical figures did in the future, such as what impact Helen Keller made, and what books Zora Neale Hurston and Charles Dickens wrote.
Super Why! (2007)
Good, but declining
I've watched Super Why ever since it first aired. I liked it, and didn't mind that they changed the endings. I also learned a few things from it. However, it's quality has declined in the past two years. They changed the voices so that they are more babyish (I know people grow up, but at least try to sound the original voice), and some plot lines don't really connect to the actual problem. For example, they couldn't get the kite up into the air, so they went into the book "The Silly Word Play", where a present keeps getting in the way of them doing their play. Later, they find out that Princess Pea's been twirling. Instead of asking "Why can't our kite fly?" they should've been asking "What can Princess Pea do to concentrate?" Also, they used to have three Super Readers (excluding Woofster) use their powers once, but now they're only using two Super Readers, or having one Super Reader use his/ her powers twice. That seems a little unfair, don't you think? The only new thing that I can't complain about is the Hanukkah episode. People should learn about different holidays that people celebrate. Overall, I still like Super Why, I just prefer the older episodes to the newer episodes.
Bunk'd (2015)
The Good Show, the Bad Claims, and the Ugly Reviews
I love this show! Jessie was one of my favorite shows on Disney Channel. And I'm kind of glad Ravi finally found a love interest that lasts longer than one episode. Now for the other reviews. Who said that Indians carried Samosas in their pockets! I'm pretty sure that's just a Ravi thing. Plus, I know an Asian girl whose not high strung and whose intelligence is about the same as other people, so who says it's a stereotype? And any one can be a mean girl. There's not really a stereotype.
And finally, everyone knows that Karan's accent is fake! It says it on his IMDb page. It must be harder for him to do it since his voice changed, so let it go! Plus I can't picture him without the accent.
I hope my review will keep Bunk'd going for at least one more season.
Dragon Tales (1999)
Something just has to be said... Again
Honestly, I loved this show when I was little. My favorite episode was the camping one. I don't know why people think there's a reference to drugs in it. And also, is a kangaroo's pouch disturbing? OK, maybe there is a slight continuity error in there, but still! And for all we know, it could be like Narnia! They go to another land, but hardly anytime passes.
Between the Lions (1999)
Something just has to be said...
I know that everyone's entitled to their opinion, but I just have to say something. I loved Between the Lions when I was little, even though I can barely remember it. My favorite episodes were "Bringing the Rain to Kapiti Plain" and "Rumpelstiltskin" (aka "The Miller's Daughter"). And that Cliffhanger song is catchy. And besides teaching children how to read, it also teaches about literature. It has Greek myths, fairy tales, folk tales, children's books, and even a true story. And literacy is important. Also, Sesame Street, Sagwa, and the Bearstein Bears are good shows. And you do realize South Park is a cartoon, right?
*I don't know if there are any spoilers, but this being my first review, I just want to be safe.
