Project Power (2020)
3/10
Could have been so much better.
14 August 2020
Netflix seriously needs to put some more money into refining their script. The story here is so generic it's not even worth saying anything more. Even the powers which are the main selling point don't always look so great, clearly showing a huge chunk of the film's 85 million budget went to the actors. Project Power could have really benefited from using a lesser-known cast to improve its visual effects and add more action. A fine choice for a lazy Saturday, but you're probably better off rewatching an MCU film if you're so thirsty to see superpowers on the screen again.

As enjoyable as watching paint dry, but entertaining you is not what this film set out to do.
13 April 2020
''Never Rarely Sometimes Always'' is neither dramatized nor bias, it doesn't try to push an agenda or have a life-changing lesson. All this film is is an honest look at the journey of two young girls' to get an abortion. It takes you along with them through the mundaneness of life, confronts you with the uncomfortable parts, and shows you the human at the center of this, which is the most important aspect yet sometimes forgotten, maybe even neglected in the heated debates about morality.

I'm pretty sure Google didn't look that good back in 2002 though.

Harley Quinn: Being Harley Quinn (2019)
Season 1, Episode 5
7/10
The worst episode so far
28 December 2019
Not many good jokes, or any good joke really, can't think of one moment that I laughed during this episode. The message is good like always, but the story is so generic. The action is not interesting to watch, which is made worse due to the fact that the animation is already nothing great. I really like this show, but this is quite disappointing after the excellent Finding Mr Right episode last week.

Still nothing new in term of storytelling
6 December 2019
It's like you get one really well-made, really entertaining self-contained short film of the Star Wars universe every week. Nothing grandiose, but that doesn't have to be a bad thing. There's a certain beauty in the simplicity of The Mandalorian.

The Mandalorian continues to keep things simple
29 November 2019
This is an entertaining show with quality that is very consistent so far. Season 1 seems to have found its footing in the episodic formula, which is not bad per se, but it means simple, straight forward, self-contained 30 minutes stories instead of an epic small-scale saga. Maybe that's what the show runners are aiming for, getting you to invest in the characters and the world before picking up the real story. I don't see the writers planning seeds for something bigger down the road, but if that's the case then Mandalorian wouldn't be the first show to do it. This way of approaching a story's been proven to be very effective before, and I have hope this show would reach the same height. Things should get more complicated for Mandalorian to be worth returning to week after week.

Knives Out (2019)
10/10
9.5/10
29 November 2019
Masterful work, this is my second favorite movie of 2019, only after Parasite. Rian Johnson has cemented himself as one of the most interesting directors working today and earned my full attention for his future works.

Knives Out is not only the best of its kind, it also brought fresh new takes on how to approach the whodunit genre. The story is intriguing and the pacing is near perfect. As expected from this amazing cast, the acting is good to great through and through, with one of the best performances of 2019 from Daniel Craig. Extremely happy for Ana because thanks to Blade Runner 2049 and this, she's very much on her way to be a superstar. Rian once again bathed his film in stylistic cinematography, making it one more cut above other movies. I can keep on talking about the tight writing, the atmospheric score, the dynamic camerawork, the non-stop twists and turns, but I suggest you go and see this brilliant piece of art yourself.

The Mandalorian (2019– )
7/10
A solid start
12 November 2019
Let's just get the obvious thing out of the way, the production value is top-notch, everything is practical and breathtaking. The cinematography is simply beautiful. Those things coupled with marvelous sound design resulted in a very immersive looking world, which is a must for any Star-Wars film/show.

The first episode doesn't spend any time building the characters and just get right down to the business, which is both good and bad. Good because you don't have to wait very long for some sweet action, which is quite well done here. Bad because our main character, The Mandalorian, is pretty boring, at least so far. His dialogue, his voice, his action, nothing is unique, nothing makes him standout. The only thing you get to know about this guy is shown through a vague flashback, the oldest trick in the book. He was built up as the best bounty hunter, but then is easily taken down by 2 fish-like creatures. I'm all for characters not being super overpowered ( looking at you, Rey ) but maybe give him some real threats if you want to show that your character is not God ( and maybe wait a bit longer before doing it too) ? The fact that we don't see his face also doesn't help. Dredd 2012 works because Karl Urban's lips are extremely expressive, but emotion is just not an option here.

This episode also has a lot of conveniences, and couple of things don't make sense, which is a let down for me because I expected Game of Thrones (season 1-4) level of realism. But this is Star-Wars, suspension of disbelief has always been a part of the franchise, so it's not a big deal. One piece of dialogue near the end in particular is just bad, The Mandalorian literally asks the same question twice. The dialogue in this show doesn't show any promise beyond being serviceable too.

Could have been a lot better, but not bad. Can be really entertaining if you're a Star-Wars fan. I really love the western, cowboy feeling.

7/10 for episode 1

The End of the F***ing World: Episode #2.3 (2019)
Season 2, Episode 3
8/10
Finally, the show is back!
5 November 2019
Warning: Spoilers
''I love you.'' ''What?'' ''I said it's time, let's go.''

Now this is TEOTFW that I know and love. This show really only works when our two characters are together , take one out and everything just falls apart. By this I don't mean they always have to be in the same scene, but there should always be something going on between them, and this episode has exactly that. The relationship is more interesting than ever because James and Alyssa are so dysfunctional they don't know how to properly express their emotions. It's so relatable even though they're kinda crazy because real life is just like this, real life is awkward. The writing is funny again too. It's good to know that I'm probably gonna finish this season now, got really worried after the first 2 forgettable episodes, but the show is great again.

The End of the F***ing World: Episode #2.2 (2019)
Season 2, Episode 2
Another boring episode...
5 November 2019
Warning: Spoilers
Episode 1 and 2 don't serve any purpose beside setting up the main players of this season, letting us know where they've been up to and where they are now.

Our two protagonists don't work well when they're separated, their personalities and the show's comedy writing style are just too....dry, but somehow combining all these things together is what made season 1 as good as it is. I'm gonna give season 2 one last try with episode 3 now that we finally know where the show is heading, hopefully it'll return to its formal glory. If that's not the case then eh, doesn't really matter, I'll always have the self-contained first season which works perfectly amazing on its own.

The End of the F***ing World: Episode #2.1 (2019)
Season 2, Episode 1
This is why season 2 might be a bad idea
5 November 2019
Warning: Spoilers
Let's be real here, the ending of season 1 was perfect and there was absolutely no reason for another single episode. Netflix should just do Wayne season 2 if they want to continue making this kind of content. Please don't turn TEOTFW into 13 Reasons Why.

Instead of kicking things off with characters we actually care about, season 2 decided to introduce a typical crazy female villain with a typical troublesome backstory. There's really not much to say here beside boring and been there, seen that. Maybe the rest of the season will be excellent, that was the case with many shows ( Daredevil season 3 for example ), but this is definitely not one of the better moments of TEOTFW.

Joker (I) (2019)
6/10
That's it?
4 October 2019
A clichéd, hollow, almost lifeless recreation of better films, Joker 2019 is about as deep and meaningful as a puddle after the rain. The director tried so hard for this film to be taken "seriously", in many ways very similar to Zack Snyder's work. For example, Joker is like a collection of cool moments, all trying to be iconic, all wanting to be THE moment, which only resulted in repetition and so much slow-mo, taking away the emotional weight from all those could have been powerful scenes. More is not better. The subtlety here is the equivalence of Todd Phillips slapping you in the face, yelling "Look! Society! See how clever I am???". Exactly what I was afraid this film would turn out to be. Also, the commentary about the rich and the poor was done 10 times better in Parasite just this year. The whole thing just feels disingenuous and insincere and so on the nose.

That's not to say Joker is a bad film, it's perfectly fine, just didn't reach the potential of what it could have been. Phoenix's performance is exceptional just as expected, the cinematography is beautiful, and the soundtrack is really great. All in all, I'm still glad that I went to support Joker instead of something like Far from home because we really need more experimental comic book films like this.

Robert De Niro rules hard btw.

I Am Mother (2019)
Such an underrated piece of Sci-Fi!
9 June 2019
The reviews I read only gave me the impression that this would be a decent thriller, not...this. After watching one generic blockbuster after another, it's always so nice to see small, creative films like I Am Mother are still getting made. I'm really curious about how much did this film cost, because it looks really impressive, but I also have the feeling that it has a very small budget. This films has solid acting and interesting characters, it touches on complicated ideas with a tightly paced narrative from start to finish and managed to keep me on the edge of my sit till the very end. If you love to treat yourself with some great science fiction, I highly recommend I Am Mother.

Swamp Thing (2019)
7/10
You will be missed
8 June 2019
Is there anything worse than a good show getting cancelled half-way? Okay, maybe a good show with a terrible ending. I'm just glad that we got a high quality Swamp-Thing show in the first place. It no doubt wouldn't have reached this quality if DC didn't accidentally spend more money than they intended, and you can really see that extra dollars on the screen.

''How is programming people to hate themselves not emotional abuse?''

One of the best and most relevant coming of age films you can watch right now. Simple and realistic, the film perfectly captures the relatable struggles we go through during the confusing years of our life (even if you're not a lesbian) such as belief, identity and self-love.

Wow
26 April 2019
While infinity war can kinda stand on its own, it is impossible to rate Endgame as a singular film. Like Jeremy Jahns said, this is chapter 12 of an odyssey, a saga, a ride of absolute pleasure for the people who have followed this journey. I truly believe this film, along with infinity war, is something that can never be replicated, not even by Marvel Studio. They'll try for sure, many more will try, but Endgame is one unique experience, something that people will never forget when they look back to the history of the great cinematic achievements.

Faith in humanity: -10/100
20 March 2019
" Anyone who thinks one book has all the answers hasn't read enough books."

It's the same here. Anyone who uses a film, especially a documentary film as absolute prove for anything should really...idk, reconsider? It's just a dumb thing to do, okay? Films are a tool to manipulate and create emotions, they're often one-sided and therefore cannot be concrete evidence. But that doesn't mean the film is total trash, it can still provide insightful information. The truth is we might never know the truth, and even if the truth is already out there then half of the people will still dismiss it as "misinformation" and "lies". I'm not defending MJ here, I'm also not accusing him of anything, I'm just disappointed reading the all the rude and ignorant reviews of people, most of whom know nothing more outside of this documentary, and also the ones who insult others for "attacking" their idol with completely harmless and constructive opinions. Always doubt, always question, believe but never follow blindly. In the words of the legendary Robert Downey Jr: " Never go full retard".

We really need to be better.

Doom Patrol (2019–2023)
A way better start than I expected
16 February 2019
I'm not a big fan of backstories being shown to tell a character's past, I prefer more...subtle ways. The first episode of Doom Patrol is the complete opposite of that, 90% of it was pure character exposition, and from what I've heard, the second episode will also be exactly like that. But the first episode was actually pretty good, it certainly looked way better than Titans, the acting was hit more than miss, and most characters seemed interesting and have a lot of potential. My least favorite one is probably Jane, she is this girl with 64 (or is it 63? ) personalities but the actress just didn't have the acting skill to pull it off like James McAvoy from ''Split'' and ''Glass'' ( it was not an easy task, not many people could've done it ). The CGI was pretty standard for a show, not great, not too bad, except for the villain who looked terrible. The characters have enough chemistry with each other which is the glue to keep this show from falling apart. Overall, I liked it, it's a self-aware superhero show, which is not something new nowadays when we already have Deadpool, but I think it achieved what it was aiming for and if I it can keep its quality consistent for the first season, I'm going to finish it.

Creed II (2018)
7/10
A solid sequel
12 February 2019
Creed 2 is another by the book boxing film that checked all the boxed of a Rocky franchise installment, but it still managed to set it apart from other more mediocre sport films with good direction, acting, music , action, cinematography and an underdog antagonist. It didn't bring anything new to the table but Creed 2 is still a worthy follow up to the excellent film by Ryan Coogler; and if you need a satisfying conclusion to this franchise, Creed 2 will certainly do the job.

The worst installment of The Wizarding World (so far)
17 November 2018
The Harry Potter books and films, like many people, are something very special to me. They were a big part of my childhood and their brilliance doesn't show any sign of being forgotten, if anything, the franchise is more popular than ever. Every single one of us has something, maybe a book, a film, a song that we know is not without flaws but we still enjoy it anyway despite that, we choose to ignore the downsides and focus only on the positives. Most notably for me is a small show called How I met your mother, chances are you've heard of it. I know it's not perfect, I can see why people dislike the last few seasons, but I choose to give it a pass for all the joy I get from watching the show. And it was the same case with The Wizarding World, I found enjoyment in every single film, you can say I loved them blindly. However, there's still a line, there's still a limit of how far you can take that.

And this movie crossed that line.

I'll keep this short since I think everyone should see the film to have their own opinion.

Credit where credit is due, this is a beautiful looking film, David Yates nailed the cinematography as always, the creatures were entertaining to watch and the acting of everyone was solid too. Those are basically the only things I liked about this movie. My biggest problem with The Crimes of Grindelwald is its story: this was 2 hours of nothingness, scene after scene with exposition but no real story, characters just moved around places without really doing anything. On a structural level, this film was a freaking disaster, no one had any arc, the film was convoluted with small plot points and twists, also the pacing was incoherent. This film undermined the ending of the first Fantastic Beasts and messed with the mythology of Harry Potter as a whole. In addition, there were some really bad editing choices which just made everything even more confusing. Plus, for a movie called Fantastic Beasts, the beasts played a very small part, and it's not like they were that important in the first movie. It's like Age of Ultron with the ''Age'' lasted a couple of days. I also didn't care for any character, not a single one, and that's saying something because I loved the main cast from the first film ( except for Tina), it didn't help that the romance was so damn terrible. The most useless character has to be Nagini though, you can cut her and plenty of other things out and everything will be exactly the same.

This movie reminds me of Doctor Strange: a film about magic without the magical feeling. It was slow, boring, pointless and only served as a set up for future movies, and it did a terrible job at that. Me and my Potterhead friend walked out of this movie feeling nothing ( well, that was just me actually, she was pissed ), and in some ways that's worse than feeling betrayed or insulted or whatever a bad movie does to you.

It hurts me to say that this is the first film of The Wizarding World that deserves a below average score, and I don't look forward to the future movie one bit.

Rick and Morty: The Ricklantis Mixup (2017)
Season 3, Episode 7
One of the best episodes, if not the best
10 September 2017
Brilliant, twisted and even frightening, the people who've been complaining about the low quality compared to season 1 and 2 will definitely be satisfied with this episode.

I don't want to talk about the plot, and neither the show runners, you can tell that by the vague description: '' Rick and Morty go to The Lost City of Atlantis.'' But I will say that this episode explores many themes on an very emotional and structural level. It's very self contained and might take awhile for us to see the impact on the main story of season 3.

10/10
