Spoilers!!!
11 December 2016
Warning: Spoilers
Before I start I'd like to say that I picked a Bollywood film because I will not be in this class second semester and really wanted to watch this film. I also had it cleared through Mrs. Ohoro. This film was by far the best film I watched for this this class in my opinion. The film was so complex that at times it made no sense but when you finally put the pieces together and they click it's truly amazing what the director did. This movie was filled with action and was not slow which I liked about it. Some of the stunts in this movie are incredible obviously they were edited but still. I had many favorite parts of the movie (spoiler). One of them is when you finally realize how they are doing the heists through magic. The actor has a twin in this movie but he doesn't have a twin in real life so the actor does a really good job at playing both of the roles. The main actor plays the twin brothers and one of them is autistic and is put under a lot of rules and restrictions by the older brother so that their secret does not get out and so that they can continued to do their heists and magic shows. I started to feel bad at the end of the film because the autistic brother finally falls involve with this girls but the other brother puts a lot of restrictions on him and her. I forgot to mention that the brothers have these really cool motorcycles that can basically do everything. At the end of the film the director ends the film with a scene that was very similar to the starting seen to resemble that the brothers will always stick together no matter what and it was great. I would highly recommend this film to anyone thinking about watching it.

Timbuktu (2014)
4/10
Review
4 December 2016
Warning: Spoilers
This is the second time I have watched the film Timbuktu. I did not enjoy this film the first time watching it. I also did not like the film the second time I watched it. I thought the film was kinda boring to be honest, it was also a very slow film. The only thing that I did not understand was at the end of the film the wife gets on a motorcycle and the guy hands her a gun. She goes to see her husband but when she gets off the motorcycle and the husband and wife run at each other they are both shot to death. Why are they both shot to death? I didn't see her pull the gun out and try to shoot anyone. One quality of this film that lets you know that it is not American is the fact that it is such a slow movie. Religion seems to be very important in the culture of these people because everything they do has to be acceptable under Shariah law other wise they are sent to prison. I feel violence is used in a lot in this culture but not until they have proved that is completely necessary. They said that if you are found to have committed adultery that you would be stoned to death. So as harsh as this sounds, just don't commit adultery and you will not die. It is as easy as that. Its wrong that they are putting all these rules upon their people but if they just follow them then everything will be alright.

Simshar (2014)

Great Film!
6 November 2016
Warning: Spoilers
In my opinion Simshar was a very good film. At first it seemed like the film was a little Americanized but it was proved wrong at the end. The film seemed a little Americanized at first because the little boy was going to work with his dad for a couple weeks on the boat. One thing that I did not like about this film was the boat catching on fire even though it was a key part of this film. I did not like this part because three people die from this one action or act. I do not even know how the fire started it seemed as if the boat was off to me but i guess it was not because it could not catch on fire if the boat was off. The fire was probably caused by a electrical problem. I think I saw them grab a fire extinguisher. Why did that not work? Was this realistic? Would they have been able to get the fire to stop if this was reel life? I believe so, I know the film was based on a true story but the fire extinguisher not being able to put the fire out actually makes no sense. Then they tried to get salt water from the ocean to put it out and that does not work either which makes no sense to me. Also if the soldier did not stop or delay the other fishermen search for Simshar then I believe they would have found the dad and son easier and the son would have got to live. Why does the soldier end up getting in trouble for letting the other fishermen look for him? they ended up saving one of their lives.

Slow Film!
27 October 2016
Warning: Spoilers
A Screaming Man in my opinion was not a very great movie. I did not enjoy this much quite as much as the other ones because it was very slow. I understand that slow movies still have a meaning and a story behind them but it did not seem so as much in this film. It was not that clear to me how Abdel manages to take his dads job. How did it happen? What did he do? Because I know they called Adam into to office to ask if two worker were to many people for the pool and he said no it was a good amount of people. So I am assuming Abdel was like I think two people is one to many. The movies was full of selfish characters to me. Abdel took his dads job and his dad gets sent to work at the gate. Adam is not a fan of this and then gets him drafted into the civil war. This means that Adam gets his job back. He basically murdered his own son by sending him into the civil war. You can tell the movie is not an American movie y how slow it is. American movies move at a much faster rate. While I was watching the film I noticed globalization, the women from China was the head of a hotel in Chad. If I was to put myself in the shoes of one of the characters. I would have made it so Abdel as told the women from China that they needed two workers by the pool because that would have solved many conflicts throughout the film. If I could have changed the ending I would have made it so that the son does not die and that the family gets back together and Abdel's son is born.

Munyurangabo (2007)

Good Film!
20 October 2016
Warning: Spoilers
Munyurangabo was a great film. The one bad thing about the film was how slow it was. The director does a great job with all of the shots and camera angles. One thing that I really did not understand was the whole reasoning for him steeling the machete at the beginning of the movie. Another thing is that I thought they were only supposed to stay in the village for a few hours or a day but they need up staying longer. I mean I understand why they did though. Sawga had not seen his family for sometime. If I was to put my self in the shoes of Sagwa's parents I definitely would not have told Sagwa about the whole Hutu and Tutsis are not supposed to be friends and that they are enemies. That was not necessary let kids be kids. America in this film is just watching I guess. We do not step in and help with the genocide. Which in my opinion is ridiculous. But moving on films like this are to educate people on what happened.

Hotel Rwanda (2004)
10/10
Great Film
16 October 2016
Warning: Spoilers
Hotel Rwanda is by far my favorite movie out of all of the ones we have seen. Being the third time I have seen the movie, I was able to pick up things that I did not understand my first or second time around. This movie is American made so we get the happy ending that we do not usually get in this class. The film uses great camera angles. For example I remember seeing a pan of all the dead bodies. Horrible sight to see but very well filmed. I understand that the UN has the job of keeping peace but they should have done more earlier in the film to help the Tutsi. The UN is a lot more helpful towards the end of the film rather than the beginning of it. It is very mind blowing how the Hutus just wanted to wipe out all of the Tutsi just because they were different than them. Tsotsi are smaller, lighter colored and also referred to as cockroaches. I believe that the world should be ashamed of what happened in Rwanda. None of the superpowers helped at all. It makes no sense that America did not intervene because we stick our heads in literally everything. Not many people really even know about this genocide in America and I feel like it has to do with the fact that we did not help them. If we would have helped them everyone to this day would know but because we did not we keep it secretive.

Brother (2010)
10/10
Excellent
15 September 2016
Warning: Spoilers
The film Hermano was by far my most favorite film. The film showed how tight brothers relationships can be. Although there were sometimes that made you think, isn't the older brother kind of harsh on the younger one but it was all just brotherly love. Both brothers looked out for each other in similar ways. The older one would make sure that no one is messing with the younger brother and would always make him work to get better at soccer. The younger brother on the other hand looked out for the older bother in a different way. He made sure he got that second contract or he was not going to take any at all. The ending of the movie was probably my favorite but it was also sad. If i could have changed the ending I definitely would have, because the ending could have been so much better if It were a happy one. Another thing that I enjoyed about the movie was that it was about soccer. I do not play soccer but I like watching it. The movie is very different than American movies.

Enjoyed!
10 September 2016
I really enjoyed this film, it showed me how much some people want to come to the United States so bad. I understand why because they want a better life. But are they really getting a better life? They have to start over loose all there stuff and just hope that they will eventually get back up on their feet. My favorite thing about this movie was probably how it showed so many really nice scenes of the water and the only thing I disliked was a part of the plot. I did not like Elio's sister at all. She should not have even been a character. Her role has a slight effect on the movie but she seemed to ruin everything for Elio and Raul. You can tell that this film is not American by the way that the movie ends. It is a very harsh ending that most people do not seem to get unless if looked upon closely. In fact the ending of the film was the only part I did not full comprehend, if I was not for I my teacher I would have left the room thinking there was a decently happy ending.

Even the Rain (2010)
8/10
The movie was Great!
2 September 2016
I really enjoyed the film "Even in the Rain" because the movie had two stories going side by side. It was like a movie inside a movie, which was one thing that I really enjoyed about the movie. Overall the movie was very easy to understand. There might have been one scene that was not that clear to me but I got the general idea of it anyways so it was not really a big problem. If this was an American film the problem would have been solved in the movie, so it different from American films. To my understanding the problem was not resolved in this film. This film taught me how people in other parts of the world are living today and that people do not have the things that we take for granted all time. Also this film sort of taught us about the past which I taught was very interesting. It showed us how the British were treating the Natives. If was the director of this film I would have made it so at the end of the film everyone had water.

Amazing Movie
25 August 2016
I really enjoyed this film because it tells us a great story. It starts off a bit dull and looks like a movie with a low budget and people that aren't star actors, but it shows us how people live in different parts of the world. For example, the gang violence in Mexico is frowned upon by the general population of Mexico. The gangs are in control but in this movie they did not seem to bother the ordinary people as much as their own gang members, rival gangs and the people they know or love. I can only recall gangs bothering ordinary people once or twice through out the whole film. This movie really keeps you up on your feet cause you never know whats going to happen next with the series of twists and turns as the movie progresses. This movie is not like any ordinary American film that we are used to, there is no happy ending. Although I felt like the ending was not as harsh as it could have been; to me the ending of the film was moderate. I learned many things from this film of which I did not know before. One being that the border is not actually a giant wall. In the movie it was portrayed as a.... The movie made me more knowledgeable about their living conditions in Mexico and the great deal of pain that people in Mexico go through to come to America. The movie made me think about how the lives of some people in Mexico can be so poor because of the gangs or by even having gangs in the area. However, some people in Mexico do live normal lives with no gangs related activity around them.
