Killer Bean 2.1: The Party (2000)
Comedy at its Climax
I watched "Killer Bean Forever", the 2009 action film based on "The Killer Bean" and "The Killer Bean 2: The Party", before watching "The Killer Bean 2: The Party". I started watching the video with no idea what to expect, but I was delightfully surprised.
The whole video is basically the first scene of "Killer Bean Forever", but, in my opinion, much better. It was definitely much lighter in story and comedy, and even though Killer Bean is still a prick, he is way more likable in this version.
I 100% prefer the dancing scene in this version to the one in the movie. The dance moves are much more diverse and just plain hilarious. I never knew I needed twerking coffee beans in my life.
I really love and recommend "Killer Bean Forever", but I wished that "The Killer Bean 2: The Party" replaced the beginning scene. It is fantastic. I highly recommend taking the time to watch this. It will take less than 10 minutes of your life, and I promise it will be worth it.
A Wrinkle in Time (2018)
Most Confusing Two Hours Of My Life
Being a big fan of Disney, I entered this movie with high hopes and expectations. I mean come on, they have some of Hollywood's biggest names staring in it! Well let me tell you that that only left me even more disappointed.
From the start of the movie they used some very unrealistic situations, which left the audience feeling more disconnected to the characters than we should have. Along with some horrible character development, I overall disliked about every character in the whole movie. The main character, Meg, was unlikable, emotionless for most of the movie, and a major bore. She did not make for a fantastic heroine. Calvin honestly did not add a single thing to the movie at all. They could have left his character out entirely and the story would not have been effected. The little brother was SOMETIMES cute but mostly just annoying. All of the actors, even the very well known ones were preformed atrociously. How is that even possible?? Every line felt lifeless and forced. I'm a crier but there wasn't a single heartwarming/emotional scene in the whole movie. The whole performance was awfully dry.
The costumes were, well cool I guess if you like vegetables and have horrendous sense of style. I personally hated everything about them. The colors of the background were way too vibrant and there was an overwhelming amount CGI. It gave me a major live action Alice and Wonderland vibe, which I really disliked.
There were too many plot holes left and I was continuously confused throughout the entire movie. Now it's not unusual for a movie to not explain everything so that it builds the viewers curiosity, but in those movies they normally end up answering your questions. In THIS movie, not only do they not explain what's going on and why, but they continue to pile on more and more plot which just made me more confused.
The ending seem way to easy, almost as if there was no challenge for the characters. Now I'm going to be honest and say that I have never read the book, so maybe the movie made more sense to those who read it, but after watching A Wrinkle in Time, I really don't want to read the book.
Overall, I would NOT recommend this movie to even your worst enemy. I would recommend showing it in prisons as a punishment but that itself is way too inhumane.
Kung fu (2004)
Top Tier Creativity and Comedy
I must say, I put this movie on with no idea what I was getting myself into.
This movie is HILARIOUS. There were so many exaggerated and over the top scenes that made the movie a pleasure to watch. I really loved was how each person had such a different and unique quaily while also playing the stereotypical role they were cast as. Any scene with the landlady just made me burst out laughing. Since this movie came out in 2004, you can expect to see some bad low-end CGI effects (think the live-action Scooby-Doo movies), but you really don't mind since the comedy of the scenes aged relatively well. To be honest, most of the humor was just stupid and immature, but I didn't mind it. I will say that this does lean on the mature end of the movie spectrum, it is rated R, so expect profanity, gore, etc.
In the beginning, there seemed to be so many different plots and storylines, that to be honest, I was really confused as to how they would fit them all together. Yet, to my surprise, the storyline converged into one complete and coherent movie relatively easily. I will warn you that the main character is not revealed until after the first quarter of the movie
Aside from the comedy, this movie has some sick fighting sequences. I say that totally unironically. I mean, yes, they can be TOTALLY over the top and nonrealistic AT ALL, but they sure are entertaining. The creativity put into these fighting sequences is actually quite impressive. The team was really imaginative. The fighting scenes are also vital for the character development of the protagonist Sing (Stephen Chow), so pay attention!
I had to watch this movie with subtitles, and let me say that it did not take away from the overall experience at all. After about 10 minutes in, I completely forgot I was even reading them.
My one complaint would be that some of the story lines were underdeveloped. I really feel like Sing's romance plot was an afterthought. It kinda just feels like it was unnecessary and didn't add to the overall plot that much. I also feel like the "axe gang" was completely undermined. Like after that epic dance scene at the beginning, I had high expectations for them but I was let down by the result.
It is obvious that this movie was supposed to be crazy. Most of the humor was based on ironic scenarios, and as cheesy as those can be, I still totally enjoyed it. If you have the time, definitely sit down to watch it. Super conveniently "Kung Fu Hustle" is on Nextflix, so it is pretty easy to find. I've seen this movie multiple times, some by myself, some with friends, and some with family, and yet, it continues to be funny each time I watched. There are jokes I still laugh about with my friends today.
I definitely recommend this movie, especially to comedy and bad movie connoisseurs! Enjoy!
Killer Bean Forever (2008)
Thank you Jeff Lew, Thank you
If I were to tell you this wasn't on my top favorite movie list, I would be lying. A friend recommended "Killer Bean Forever" to me and it was likely the most considerate and selfless thing she will ever do. Now, this movie is great. And I say that completely unironically. Watching "Killer Bean Forever" isn't just a normal movie, no, no, it's an experience.
I think the best thing about this entire experience is the script. Image if Picasso and Cindy Crawford had a child. This script is their child. The witty one liners, the creative plot twists, even the intense battle scenes just mix together and make this giant sloppy messy soup which is too delicious to stop eating. I was captivated by every scene. No scene lacked over the top humor or dry/ironic comedy which made the movie a true pleasure to watch."Killer Bean Forever" isn't the most unpredictable movie BUT it has its moments. There were some real plot twists that were totally unexpected. It kept me on the edge of my seat. I came for the dancing beans but stayed for the script.
Even though the animation is purely 3D model coffee beans either dancing or fighting, it's forgivable since the script and plot line are just so strong. Honestly, there is no need for high animation budgets since the poor 3D models just add to the comedy of the movie. In fact, if this movie were to have been animated by Pixar itself it would hurt the movie more than helped it. In comparison to movies such as Life's A Jungle, the Video Brinquedo films, or ANY Dingo Pictures films, the animation looks hand crafted by God himself. It's the Quentin Tarantino film of the terrible movie hierarchy.
Though I have to say hands down, the worst atrocity of the movie is Killer Bean himself. That little bean is so dang unlikable. The hardcore I-care-for-no-one attitude he has going on just makes him seem like a jerk. It's fine to have those type of characters, but since he's the main character, it just gets really freaking annoying. I was constantly questioning his motives, like was he doing all of this in order to get a good nights sleep or because he was ordered to or because he wanted to be a public do-gooder. They usually seem more like unfinished ideas. There was almost no redemption arc for Killer Bean either. I mean technically there WAS one but it was so poorly done it was ridiculous. All together, the only reason Killer Bean has any worth is because he helps move the storyline along and, to be quite honest, for his dry humor or sly side comments.
This entire movie just seems like one big joke. It just shouldn't exist, yet here it is. And I think that's one of the reasons it makes it so great. The movie just does not take itself seriously, and I love it like that. I'm mind boggled by the commitment of Jeff Lew and the rest of the team. I mean, they produced an hour and 25 minute movie about a killer coffee bean. Who does that?
All I have left to say is this:
Thank you.
Ratatoing (2007)
Pixar really outdid themselves
Great Sequel! Ratatouille was a favorite but Ratatoing was , in my option, WAY better.
Although, the animation was a half a step down form the original, the plot really made up for it.
I really enjoyed (and thought was fun) in the 10 + plus minute scene where they only talked about how amazing the food was. It really made my mouth water too.
I also found it touching how remy tamed the cat. It really goes to show that food really can bring people closer together.
In the movie, remy makes one strawberry last an entire week. It really amazes me how he takes, what seems like so little, and makes it last a whole week. I find it to be a lesson, applicable to all, that the little things matter the most in life.
The only question I have left is how did remy get to Rio? Hopefully it will be answered in the closing film in this spectacular trilogy, "Ratatoed"
