The Nun II (2023)
Predictable
For me personally it was a steep downgrade compated to the first Nun (2018) film. They used the same "tactic" to appear scary (shots, camera movement, scene getting darker), which led to an easily predictable story and "scares". A few scenes were too long, it didn't feel suspenseful for the scare that was coming, it was just time-wasting.
I was on the edge of my seat watching the original movie, however this one only had a few cheap scares.
I also felt like it was just the average, boring script. I felt sad for Storm Reid's casting, felt like a typical "we need a black person" role as her writing was subpar.
Only positive I can mention in the acting. I think both the young and adult actors and actresses played their role well and you could easily feel their emotions.
The Lincoln Lawyer (2011)
Great watch
The acting is amazing, which comes naturally with such a talented cast. Even smaller roles and supporting actors such as Michael Paré or Bryan Cranston leaves a strong impression in just a few lines. Loved the dynamic between the cast, it came off as natural interaction through out the movie.
The story itself has a lot of twists, yet it is still easy to follow and makes you engaged the whole time you are watching the movie.
It has a cool old school feel dispite being released in 2011 that I just love. The cinematography is great, the aerial shots and close-ups fit together great. The driving scenes are some of my favourites.
Bone Tomahawk (2015)
Refreshing horror western
I came across this movie just by chance, but Oh boy am I lucky. I grew very tired of the trend that has been going on for the past 5-10 years where all common sense is thrown out of the window, characters don't communicate with each other creating a ten-time bigger problem and the happy ending where the good always triumphs without any loss on their side.
This movie is just the opposite of this trend. There are great actors playing roles of well-written characters. It was such a refreshing movie to watch.
The action/horror scenes were amazing, the visuals weren't too brutal, but there was one scene where the sounds got me to the point, I had to pause the movie for a minute.
House of Gucci (2021)
Amazing acting, the movie needs to be cut shorter
It took quite a long time for me to finally watch this movie considering the 2 hour and 37-minute runtime. After watching it I understand that all the scenes shown in the movie are necessary to understand the emotions and drive of each character, but I still would have preferred if it was cut down to 2 hours.
The acting was terrific, the emotions and eyes in every scene truly reflected what was going to in the character's mind. Also, the makeup and dressing were top level, I didn't realise Paolo was played by Jared Leto until reading the cast.
However, for the certain characterisations were a little too much, that ruined the authenticity of the movie. Aldo portrayed the Italian sentiment "family above all" by words rather than action, would have been nicer to learn about his manner just by watching his acts rather than being told what he stands for. Also, Paolo's "stupidity" and incompetence was funny, but a little too much at certain points.
Summarizing it was a good biography with great acting and directing, but the length of the movie and overly acted traits were a too much at times.
Lamborghini: The Man Behind the Legend (2022)
Great story and acting, short runtime
There are too many movies nowadays that are 2,5-3 hours long when the story could be played out in less than 2 hours when paced well.
This movie is the opposite of the above. The story is well rounded and concluded, however I feel like another 30 minutes or hour could have been added to the runtime.
The writing is fantastic, of course it romanticizes the struggle and characters of some, but every little act is reflected later in the film.
The acting is also phenomenal, Frank Grillo played his part perfectly in the movie, along with his co-start.
Overall, I think the film stayed true to the life of Ferruccio Lamborghini and it was delivered in a way that made this an enjoyable and intriguing film to watch.
The American (2010)
Boring, filled with plot holes
So, I arrived to "The American" on my George Clooney movies. I watched it without any previous knowledge about the story or the plot. The first 2 minutes started off excitingly, however the following length of the movie was just pure boredom.
Very few actions done by the main character had an explainable motive, there was no beginning or end to any plotlines (that is if there was a plotline in the first place). The characters barely had any depth behind their designed function, which made it even less entertaining to watch.
I think the idea itself could have worked, but simply no work was put into the script. The whole movie just felt cheap and rushed.
This is rare, but I cannot mention any highlights from watching this.
Akame ga Kill! (2014)
Simply Splendid
Lovely anime, great animation and main character arcs through the show. But most importantly there isn't any plot armour for anyone, noone is safe. This adds a strange weight to the show, but it only makes it better and gives more meaining at the end.
