The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning (2006)
out of this world
Well, I had to see this film because I am a fan of horror. could not, not see it! Still pleased I did as it re-affirmed with me that Hollywood just make films that are mainstream and lucrative. but what is the point? The original 'Texas Chainsaw' in the 70s was a remarkable film with implicit quality - it was a brilliant horror film. These remakes (and remake sequels) can be watched once with some interest, but a good film is something you want to see again and again. I know that I will never watch this 'chainsaw beginning' film ever again! It even had Leatherface running after the 'scared chick' at the end - thus copying the original 70s version. She even jumped out of a window again. What is the point of making a horror film that is not even scary? It looks like we are gonna have to suffer seeing many many more films like this, until someone realizes that horror is supposed to be about originality and the macabre. Whatever next, a rehash of Alien or Exorcist - that is gonna be bad. This film is OK, i gave a five, but it still leaves a bad taste in the throat - not a great horror film. oh well..!
Where the Truth Lies (2005)
oh my word!!!
I have seen Kevin Bacon in many films and thought he was a class act. I have watched many of his other films including "The Woodsman", "Mystic River" and "Hollow Man" - He has done loads of other great roles; However, "Where the Truth Lies" has got to be the worst film I've seen in a while. I even watched it to the very end. Not really sure why I did that! Kevin Bacon and Colin Firth were perfectly fine (as actors) and did a good job, but I really thought the plot was very very boring. Not really much else I can say apart from DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME. This film was a murder mystery but no-one actually cares who was killed and who killed who...!! Enuff said...... Try Kevin and Colin's other films, not this one.
Evilenko (2003)
Malcolm Mcdowell at his best
Well let's face it. This is in fact a great film. Malcolm Mcdowell is truly amazing. It is a sad film and not the slasher flick that I was expecting. MM is a fantastic actor. Every moment you see him in this film is quality stuff.
The story is quite unsettling and that might be a good thing? Many movies these days have nothing special about them at all! This film has some great acting, great cinematography and many uneasy moments. Not too bad at all.
Watch it - it's not a waste of time. Some movies are. I am looking forward to searching out other MM films (yes I know he did Clockwork Orange). Keep up the good work Malcolm.
