Green Book (2018)
Surprising substance
This film takes place in the 1960's. It examines the controversy of Black discrimination in a very unique way. Vigo Mortensen plays "Tonylip". A tough and rough bouncer at the Copa in New York city. He takes a temporary job as a bodyguard / driver for an up and coming concert pianist as he embarks on a tour of the deep south. Needless to say these two individuals could not be more different having come from two contrasting worlds. Thrown together they learn to appreciate one another and the life lessons each brings to eachother. There re more than a few laughs and many moments to ponder and reflect. All in all I highly recommend this film as something of substance. Excellently written and cast, a very good watch . PS the very last line of the movie made me laugh at myself. Tony's wife thanks Dr. Shirley for helping Tony with the "Lettuce " ( cash income). It took a few seconds to dawn on me she was saying " Letters" with a bronx accent .
Paddington 2 (2017)
Less than stellar
Although there is a long list of good actors , They can't make up for the under achieving writing of the script. It was quite dull. It lacked all the fresh wonder of the original film. The blundering was preemptive and satirized . I was so looking forward to this film having seen the first....but sadly i should have kept my money in my pocket. It just was too predictable and tiring. Add in long spurts of boredom....and I found it almost unbearable ( pardon the pun) to watch.
No Men Beyond This Point (2015)
This is a feminists utopia
Completely ridiculous and a horrible film. It was like some ultra right wing feminist woke up and decided this was the best world that could happen. Kind of like her wet dream. The acting was horrible and the script was complete trash. If you want to imagine a world where women rule and men are no longer necessary this is your chance to imagine a silly whim based on a misguided and tormented mind.
Dark Matter (2007)
Very much an Indie film....but the ending was a complete cop out
I'm not sure if the ending was so terrible due to lack of budget...or just terrible story telling. Either way....don't let the known actors in this film be your reason for watching it, as even their presence cannot redeem the ending of this film . It was obvious what yet needed to happen to vindicate the main character....and to punish the professor who all along was being built up as a jealous man trying to keep a dead theory in play for his own personal gains....but this you will not see....instead of the last 35-40 minutes of the film.....you see a murder suicide for a "Quick and cheap wrap!" Just another film dumped on the market in hopes of retrieving it's initial investment....which I seriously doubt it did.
