The Ones Below (2015)
This surprised me!
I was completely blown away by this stylish thriller. I could not get enough of the Finnish actress playing the German wife downstairs. I really hope she was nominated for awards for her outstanding and brilliant performance. I felt connected to the three main characters, David Morrissey's the least but I think that actually works because he is the most mysterious and you don't want to know too much about him. There was a bit of slow pacing in the later half but it didn't bother me, I was invested already and was dying to know what happened. The ending was satisfying and one of those endings that had us all yelling out OH DANG! Worth a rental for sure, but I would watch it a second time with friends over just to see what they think of it.
Sacrifice (2016)
Great acting
Beautifully shot, a great film to watch on a dark and stormy day at home all cuddled up. It's never super slow either, though from the beginning I prepared myself for some longer more slower parts but that definitely didn't happen. I love this lead actress! I truly believe she is intelligent and a Doctor whereas many actresses who play Doctors do not convince me and then I find myself distracted and unable to focus on the story. I could guess what was going on but I still wanted to keep watching because I was connected to the main characters. Satisfying ending with this film. It is worth the rental for sure. Afterward I felt like I'd been in Scotland/Ireland all weekend.
HoneyBee (2016)
Super fun never boring
I had a blast watching this especially because I know the area it was filmed and I loved how gorgeous everything looked and could tell they filmed in June which is the month the story takes place in so the crazy weather was fitting. I thought the acting was good and the chemistry between the red haired son and the girl Hilary was SO believable I wonder if they were actually together. I also liked the relationship of the girl Hilary with her Dad and how it wasn't stereotypical like other movies where they fight all the time. While I do have some questions and I took a point away because I really wanted a bit more goriness I have it all figured out and am wondering why the other reviewers didn't... My 9 year old figured it out so .. Just saying. For us this was fun and I would watch again.
