Honkey Donkey (1934)
Hysterical
Timeless and genuine ..harkens back to an era when comedy was sometimes physical, sometimes cute but always clever! ..how unique this was! For someone to think of something like this today and put it together it still wouldn't be as funny. Another terrific aspect of watching our gang shorts is to get a real feel for life back in the twenties and thirties... the cultural differences ..the technology of the day, such as it was, just the way people lived ..fascinating.
And that hysterical laugh the donkey had!
I mean who would name an animal algebra? It doesn't mean anything but it's fun to say and it's cute, if not appropriate and it's stuck with me all these years later. I remember as a kid it used to make me laugh. I saw it probably 40 years ago for the first time and YouTube's been uploading them and boy they
sure has been a lot of fun.
The Hudsucker Proxy (1994)
Dare I say genius?
The Hudsucker proxy is just one of those movies that no matter how many times you watch it there's something fresh, something special ..something new.. most know how talented the coen brothers are but this brilliant movie is woefully underappreciated. The casting was perfect, the dialogue was so much fun and clever and witty and there were surprises with every scene! What about the set decoration? ..everything had a muted colortone almost sephia.. reminiscent of genuine film noir style of the era. 1994 surely was a terrific year for Tim Robbins as the shawshank redemption was no slouch for him and he revealed his acting prowess as we enjoyed the dichotomy of the two characters in each of these movies: one serious and methodical and the other a bumbling, sweet goofball ..anyway..this is a wonderful movie!
Frasier: The B Story (2023)
Really?
I've been a long time devoted fan of the Fraser character ..first in cheers and then through the entire Seattle setting series.. loved all the characters and I love the clever, witty intelligent comedy. It was always something upon whixh you could rely for a good time! When the reboot was announced imagine my thrill and honestly they didn't let me down. The first couple shows were a bit lukewarm with relatively weak character development .. Of course, just about anything is a bit weaker than the initial characters.. how to overcome the loss of Daphne and Niles and of course Martin and the other characters, bulldog etc ..but they seemed to be doing a respectable job .. my favorite being Freddy's birthday episode with the interaction with his mom and Fraser's friend dressed in that Mafia suit and all the references to it ..that was hilarious. And it was all good until this episode when the female firefighter exclaimed our Lord's name in vain as a cussword.. I was pretty shocked.. there's no need for that. They ruined this reboot for me. I'm not going to watch another episode.
Pearl Harbor (2001)
Shaky cam sucks
All the action sequences shook so much everything was blurry. How is that good film making? .. It's like loading a poorly prepared meal with salt or sugar. It's still a bad meal.
Tenet (2020)
Is this really a Nolan film?
Painful... Everywhere from the horrific score to the almost impossible plot... And who did the sound engineering? Couldn't understand any dialogue. It has some good moments but overall my stomach became to upset for me to endure it.
Brewster's Millions (1945)
Adorable!
You'll be smiling for an hour and 18 minutes and chuckling every few!
